No follow for html sitemap?
-
Hi,
I have been working on an e-commerce site and have been wondering if i should add the meta robot tag with no follows, on pages like delivery , terms, returns and the html sitemap?
From what I have read this seems a good idea, but i am a little confused as what to do with the html sitemap. I can understand that having this on the homepage will allow crawlers quick access to the deeper pages within the site. But would it be better to guide them down the natural route of the category navigation instead?
Thanks

Matt Cutts recommends against using nofollow this way -- now, you might want to take anything Matt says with a grain of salt, but we do know that you cannot control the flow of PageRank in this way. Your other pages will not get more PR because you have nofollowed others; instead Matt says, the PR is lost. See the video
That said, a larger site might benefit indirectly from a judicious use of the robots.txt file to prevent the indexing pf pages that are not likely to end up in the SERPs and allowing more of the site's crawl time allotment for pages that have SERP value.

Basically you'll use the html sitemap for your visitors. The reason for adding no follow to the html sitemap and the other pages is that you would like the link juice not going to pages you have no intention for ranking (being high up in the SERPs).
For the search engine robots you'll need a sitemap.xml file. So in the optimal situation you need two sitemaps. Hope this helps!

Hello Experts? Header tags for homepage, category, product pages is it required to be have from h1 till h6? If No...then w3c validator will give me Warning and it will never Pass my site so? Do google say h1, h2, h3..etc should be in sequence only? As per my site design I cannot define h1 always on top it can be after h2 or h3 so? h1 can be only 1 for per page but it is fine h2, h3 etc multiple for same page? At listing page to give all 30 products names as h3 is fine or it is not correct way? For ecommerce site what is the best header tags you suggest? I mean till h3 is fine or h1 also fine? Do header tags helps google in crawling ? or for ranking purpose? or header tags should be best for blog not for ecommerce site? Thanks!

Magento product pages - should they have a .php or .html?
Hi all, I'm using a plugin to do some SEO work on my Magento site It says this is an error: Product pages should have a suitable file type extension such as .php or .html I removed .html when I first set up my store because I though it looked more aesthetically pleasing, but does this have a negative effect on SEO? I can't find much information on this matter in my searches. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thank you, Laura

To Follow or Not To Follow...... ?
So, Im working in house with a large company. They have a number of sites which are in need of content up dates etc. In looking around, I noticed meta name = 'robots'content='noindex, nofollow' The IT person here who has influence as to what is or is not done; says it should stay that way. It is my understanding and please correct me if I am wrong..... we generally would like pages followed and indexed. I'm pretty sure by optimizing on page and making this change it could help the site..... Thanks for your consideration!!!!
