How do i fix my duplicate title tags
-
I joined as member to this site yesterday and have found a few isuues, long page descriptions X 7 ( all now fixed ) and 3 X duplicate title tags.
The title tags duplicated are www.daygo-express.co.uk
and www.daygo-express.co.uk/sitemap/
how do i fix these issues, i am by no means a webmaster and only use simple 1&1 package as a host.
Do i need to insert robots txt?, if so can someone with knowledge writeit for me and post please. Also does the robots txt need to placed in the heder section.
many thanks
Dee

Excellent. Glad to hear 1&1 is more manageable than I suspected.:)

Hi Cyrus,
1&1 is not so bad this is the first issue i have had. i have added re canonical tag in the haed now so hopefully that will sort out the issue. I have also updated robots.txt to
User-agent: *
Disallow: http://www.daygo-express.co.uk/c/
Sitemap: http://www.daygo-express.co.uk/sitemap.xmlI have also denoted the urls in GWMT, with all these measures in place hopefully this will sort the problem out. please advise if you think differently.
Many thanks
Dee

Hi Dee,
My understanding of 1&1 WebsiteBuilder is that it is extremely limited on the amount of control you enjoy in altering things like title tags, meta data, etc.
Theoretically, you could use robots.txt to block Google from crawling the sitemap, then submit an URL removal request, but in reality this is probably unnecessary.
The same goes for the two main URLs, one with the trailing slash "/" and one without. Although technically these are different URLs, in reality Google will almost always treat them the same, and not ding you for duplicate content/title tags.
So my best advice would be not worry too much about it. Glad to see you're learning some SEO and building websites. When you're up for it, you should graduate to a more advanced website platform, like Wordpress, where you can exercise a greater degree of control.
Hope this helps. Best of luck with your SEO!

As never used that builder myself so i am not sure but while research over your question... this is something that i find! http://faq.1and1.com/applications/websitebuilder/websitebuilder_design/5.html can be useful for you!
-
The problem i have is that i cannot edit the individual page titles,
I'm not sure that i am explaining this very well. I use 1&1 website builder.
can i use robots text to disallow google from indexing the unwanted pages. if so how do i do it ?
Sorry if i'm not being clear
-
Simple!
download the website (in case of simple html or php website) open it in Dreamweaver and edit the titles to make it unique... if you do not have Dreamweaver you can do this by opening it in a notepad find the tag and edit it to make it unique... upload the files and you are done!
that's it!

Massive unexplained organic traffic drop; disappeared from Google
Hi there,
Search Behavior | | katelynroberts
Our site has experienced a huge organic traffic drop, specifically from Google. The drop occurred on Feb 19 and I've got no clue why it happened. We have not made any significant changes to the website and it doesn't look like there was an algorithm update last week. We don't have any Google penalties or indexing issues noted, and the drop isn't specific to any particular segment/region/keyword. What am I missing? Any advice or insight is super duper appreciated. Our site is a Wordpress/WooCommerice e-commerce site with a blog and long-standing #1 ranks for keywords related to our main product offering. Screen Shot 2024-02-26 at 3.12.25 PM.png

Strange Traffic Movements
Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this... I'm working with a client whose website is experiencing some odd organic traffic patterns. See screenshot attached. As you can see, there was a sudden cliff fall about a month ago, and then it recovered (almost) entirely. Then, a month to the day later, the same thing happened again. What is the likelihood that this is a data glitch vs an algorithm thing? Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated. Thanks,

Target="_blank" and referral acquisition data
Hi, Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! I have been reading up on this topic but there is some contradictory articles out there and I was hoping someone could clarify the latest practise for me. Website A links out to four of its partner websites.
Search Behavior | | AMA-DataSet
These links are using a target="_blank". When i look at the acquisition data for any of the partner websites there is zero referral data from site A.
I tested this wasn't an analytics bug by using the real time feature while clicking the partner links to see what had happened, and to also find the source, but I found that they are all being returned as a source direct. Ideally id like it to show the referrals once more for reporting purposes. Do I need to add extra google analytics parameters/functions to track the outbound links? or should this referral data be appearing correctly and it is something unrelated to the links themselves? or should I throw in the towel and drop the target blanks? Thank you in advance for your time.

My e-commerce competes with my own wholesalers
Hi guys, I run a wholesale program, frequently my e-commerce competes with my own wholesalers on many websites like Etsy for example. Usually, the wholesaler displays the exact same picture of my website. May Google find that I have duplicate content? Is there any alternative solution for this instead of asking the wholesaler to make their own pictures? Thanks

SEO For A Title Company?
Has anyone ever had success with doing SEO for a title company? The owner of our law firm has one, and I'd be happy to work on it, but it just doesn't seem to be cost-effective. From my experience, title business goes to people who personally know the realtor; no one who actually has a say is "googling title companies." But, if I'm wrong, I'd love to hear it and any experiences you want to share. Thanks, Ruben

Is a Shorter Page Title Better?
Is there any evidence that SEs give a greater weighting to keyword phrases in the page title if there are less characters? For example: 1. "Buy Silver Bullion" 2. "Buy Silver Bullion Coins Bars Rounds Easily Privately Securely" The key phrase I am trying to optimize for is "Buy Silver Bullion." To my knowledge, current practices would say the 2nd phrase is better optimized since it contains more keywords and it has a few USPs. But is there any evidence that the 1st example would be higher ranked in google for the phrase "Buy Silver Bullion" because it is more focused than the 2nd?

Trailing slash at end of URLs?
Hi, I'm just about to put up a new site and I need to decide between having no trailing slash at the end of the all the URLs, or putting one in there. I think Matt Cutts has a slight preference for them, as stated here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/whiteboard-interview-googles-matt-cutts-on-redirects-trust-more "Matt says he would slightly advocate for using a trailing slash simply because it clearly indicates that a URL is a folder and not a document." However, I'm really wondering. I mean, if people link to my site, they'll tend not to insert a trailing slash, I'm thinking... Your thoughts would be welcome on this one! Cheers, Luke
