Contact Form On Homepage - Best Practices

How important is it to have a contact form on the homepage of a service-based business?
I am trying to decide if having a form on front page will increase the number of people filling it out.

Oftentimes what I'll do for small business clients of mine (service-based businesses) is have a few different types of contact forms through the site. You obviously want some type of form on the contact page itself. Depending on the type of business you may also have an actual page for a 'Request an Estimate'/'Request a Quote'/'Book an Appointment'. The latter type of form would typically be more detailed (i.e, more fields) than a basic contact form on a contact page, but what I've found effective on a homepage, or sometimes on every page of the site is some sort of 'Quick Contact Form', where you're asking for the bare minimum amount of information from the user in order that your client can proceed to the next step.
There's no silver bullet and what works for one site or one industry doesn't always work across the board. I'm a huge proponent of conversion tracking/goal setting and measuring the each form separately.

I'm with Anthony that this is a perfect example of where there's no reason to guess when testing can give you your visitors' answer instead of your own.
I suspect testing will show that a form on the homepage isn't going to get used much. Filling out a contact form is a fairly deep-funnel conversion. A visitor must already be pretty sure they're considering doing business with you to bother filling out the form. Or they've looked through the site and can't find the info they're looking for.
Are they likely to make this decision based on just having seen your homepage? Not likely. Better to use that space to give a new visitor more useful info.
But that's just my opinion. Test and let your visitors tell you whether they'll use it

Derek- This isn't the easy answer, but what you need to do in this instance is test. Run a simple A/B test.

I don't think heavily. As long as the prospect can find the form easily (via menu item or small graphic), I wouldn't include one as it will take up too much valuable real estate on the home page.

Not 100% important pertaining to the Contact Form.
BUT, I forgot where I read this statistic but customers are more highly subjected to inquire more of a business, if there are some trust signals. Signals like SSL certificates, payment acceptance and yes, contact information.
Contact forms are not fully needed, but doesn't hurt if it is purely service based like SEO consulting. But you should 100% put your business address, phone number, and email on the front page, probably on the sidebar or header.

Blog on Subdomain vs. Subdirectory - Best Practices
Hi, I have recently been told that it no longer impacts authority or rankings if a blog is set up on a subdomain (blog.domain.com) rather than a subdirectory (/blog). However, I am reluctant to do so because I remember learning how blog subdomains did not adhere to SEO best practices. Best Way to Add Google Map to Site
My site is built with WordPress. I want to add our business location in the contact page using Google Map. What is the best way to do this? There is many plugins out there for Word Press do I need to use one ? Hopw about Webmaster tools, does it need to be submit somewhere in there? When it is done properly, will Google show our store location with a map in Goolgle search results? I saw some store result showing the map & business hours, How to do this? Thank you for your help. Content placment best for SEO?
We currently have a scroll bar box at the bottom of our page with information in but from what I can see scroll bar boxes at the bottom of websites looking a little spammy (a lot of over optimized websites using them) would we be best in using a strategy like this site www.solopress.com/ which implement a show more link that drops information down would this be read as good information for Google or look just as spammy?

Temp redirects of homepage URLs
Working on a site for a client and the CMS provider has all variants of their domain (.co.uk & .com and / and http:// etc) temp redirecting to the /default.aspx homepage. I know in theory that this means no Google Juice is being passed to the final location page, does this mean that all backlinks that point to their domain are not actually passing Juice onto the homepage? Dealing with a category page that is optimised & ranks for same keyword as homepage
Hi, I'm working with a very niche website where only one product is sold. This means there is a small keyword set (just variations of same keyword) that we are optimising for. Currently the homepage www.example.com ranks in position 2 for target term - "sample". But there is also a required deeper page www.example.com/sample which has lots and lots of internal links targeted to "sample" pointing to it. This page ranks position 8. Effectively this is optimising the deeper page for the same keyword as for the home page through internal anchir text. This deeper page must exist as it has much more detailed information about the product. We want the homepage to rank highest and I'm trying to figure out if we are confusing Google and splitting authority between 2 pages. Best result for us would be to have homepage in position 1 and the deeper page can disappear (total visits would increase). So the question is, is there a solution to do this? My initial thought was use canonical tag on the www.example.com/sample page specifiying www.example.com. Can we do this? Its not duplicate content. Other option I considered is to nofollow links to the deeper page. Again not sure if this will have positive or negative impact. My fear is by removing 40 odd internal links with "sample" anchor text will reduce relevancy of the domain as a whole for the "sample" keyword. Any help much appreciated! Thanks
