Using phrases like 'NO 1' or 'Best' int he title tag

Hi All,
Quick question - is it illegal, against any rule etc to use phrases such as
'The No 1 rest of the title tag | Brand Name'
on a site?

Yep, this would work within the travel sector - The UKs No1 Destination etc etc.
I think it would only benefit the CTR, if the offering is indeed the best, or the client is happy to claim they are the best at what they do.

Applies to Travel for sure. Personally I think if you have the "award" or proof that you own the status as No 1 then use it. Your title tag is like your sales pitch. If you sell shit to me and you are the No 1 or the Best and don't say it, you might have missed new customer. I am more likly to click on something that claims to be No 1 or the Best, however, if I get there and it isn't true then bey bey. So I don't think it could hurt unless it's not true.

I was thinking more on the lines of improving CTR, as opposed to focusing blindly on a keyword stuffed title purely for the rank, like all the others in the top 5 in this niche.
Now the sites ranking, a more prominent way of attracting / making the listing stand out is required, so looking for valid options.

How many people search for "no1 android phone"? No many, so why put it in your title?
I would do some keyword research and target those terms.

I wouldn't have thought it would cause any problems as long as it was true.
If you can truthfully claim to be the 'best' or 'No1' in your business market its worth double checking that there are keywords based around this for your brand/business before changing your title tag.

Is using a H1 tag in a logo image bad for SEO?
We have brand logos on certain pages that have H1 tags in them - the H1 text being the brand's name, as this is what we'd want the title of the page to be. The logos are at the top of the page instead of a written title. But is this the best option for SEO? Do search engines value H1 tags in images as highly as a standard H1 tag?Would it be better for SEO to add an alt tag to the logo and add a separate H1 tag on the page that's also the name of the brand?

Can you use the canonical tag and rel=next and rel=prev on category pages.
We have a conflict of information between our web developers and our SEO company. We are an on-line retail company hence we have a fair number of different categories. Our site is set up with the rel=next and rel=prev tags. Our SEO company have asked us to implement canonical links on our category pages and leave the rel=next and rel=prev tags as they are. Our web developers are saying by doing this we are asking Google to ignore all of our products on all of the pages except page 1 which would mean Google would not index a lot of our products. I have looked at a few articles but I am struggling to understand which way to go. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Different title tags and meta descriptions for desktop and mobile?
Is it possible to use different title tags and meta descriptions for mobile users? For Example: In the SERP for desktop you'll see the desktop title tags and meta descriptions, but in the SERP for mobile you'll the mobile versions of the webpage.

Is it OK to include name of your town to the title tag or H1 tag on a blog to enhance local search results
I recently attended a webinar by ETNA Interactive on local search SEO. The presenter recommended including the name of your town in the title of the blog to increase local search SEO. Is this OK? Ive always been concerned that it is such an obvious attempt to rank locally that Google would consider it "spammy" ? black hat, "sketchy" or otherwise manipulative. Have the rules changed? Title tag length
Hi, I am fairly new to SEO and have just noticed the end of my title text has been cut off by Google in the serps results. Everything i have read tells me titles should be maximum of 70 characters, however, Google is only displaying 54. See below Security systems | wireless | battery powered | Police... Nobody else on the page is showing more than 54 characters. Am i missing something obvious? Any and all help gratefully appreciated. Thanks Si

Image titles and alt tags for multiple images
I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me understand the best way to optimize my image titles and alt tags for a specific situation. I'm working on an interior design website and they have hundreds of pictures. each of their projects has about 10 pictures. Is it best for me to us the key phrase in each title and tag? or is that to repetitive? here is what I mean: A project called "urban interior design" all images are of urban interior design, just different angles and features, so my initial idea is to just have each image title like this: Title: "urban interior design dinning area" Alt: "urban interior design dinning area view" Title: "urban interior design living room" Alt:"urban interior design living room couch view" Is this the best way or will it actually hurt my ranking with too much exact keyword use? Does a phone number in the title tag hurt your rankings in SERP?

H1 tag in the footer?
Quick question: I have been scouring SEOMoz.org along with webmaster forums looking for an answer, but we have a person who insists that the H1 tag be located in the Footer. I feel that is is fundamentally wrong because it is not the intent of the H1 tag, and I do not believe it is a best practice. That being said would we see what little value the H1 tag has disappear if we put it in the footer, would we be penalized, or am I being too vanilla by wanting to keep it in the Title position?
