We've noticed that when we search our web copy in Google the first result is under a proxy server "HideMyAss.com," and our actual website is no where in sight. We've called Google and they really didn't have an answer for us (well the 2-3 people) we spoke with.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

That's very frustrating! I've never had a problem with HMA specifically, but that script usually works.

You may want to try searching for things like "break out of frame proxy" or "break out of frame php" to see if anyone out there has come up with a better solution.

We've added the break out of frame script but it doesn't work. Hidemyass is too smart for that script.

We also tried disallowing access proxy servers via PHP (see below) and htaccess. For PHP, it also disallow some pages under CDN. We might try turning off CDN and try PHP again. Htaccess doesn't work at all for hidemyass.

        die("Proxy access not allowed"); ?>

Great call on both the canonical tags and breaking out of the frame. I imagine the site will be indexed properly within a week using these tactics.

Interesting. Google is usually smart about not indexing proxies, but here it looks like it's doing exactly that.

You can try using Javascript to break your site out of any frames when a visiting your site. This will break the user out of the frame if they come via the proxy, and may also help prevent Google from indexing the proxy frame:

It's when we copy some web copy into Google. For instance if you enter this text into Google it will come up "At American Addiction Centers, treatment programs are tailored to meet the precise goals and needs of each individual. Our staff develops working relationships with clients while reviving mind, body and spirit."

And that's true for most of our web content.

                      Hi Takeshi,

We have the canonical tags on all our headers. And there are no manual penalties listed in webmaster tools.  Any thoughts?

Make sure you have the canonical tag in the header of all your pages. It helps Google tell what is the original source of a page:

                          https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139394?hl=en

Also, check in webmaster tools to see if your site has a manual penalty, being penalized can cause other sites to show up higher than you in the SERPs for your content.

Best URL structure for SEO for Malaysian/Singapore site on .com.au domain

Hi there I know ideally i need a .my or .sg domain, however i dont have time to do this in the interim so what would be the best way to host Malaysian content on a www.domainname.com.au website? www.domainname.com.au/en-MY
                              www.domainname.com.au/MY
                              domainname.com.au/malaysia
                              malaysia.domainname.com.au
my.domainname.com.au Im assuming this cant make the .com.au site look spammy but thought I'd ask just to be safe? Thanks in advance! 🙂

Avoiding the "sorry we have no imagery here" G-maps error

Hi there, we recently did a redesign on a big site and added Gmaps locations to almost every page since we are related to Real State, Listings, Details, search results all have a map embedded. While looking at GWT I found that the top keywords on our site (which is in spanish) are the following. have here imagery sorry After a quick search I found out this is a Gmaps bug, when Google Bot accesses the Pages it throws an error out with this text repeated several times. If you do a search for "sorry we have no imagery here" you will see lots of sites with this issue. My question is, Is this affecting the overall SEO since Bots are actually crawling and indexing this hence its being reported by GWT, Should I cloak this to robots? Has anyone noticed this or has been able to fix it? Thanks in advance!

Website not listing in google - screaming frog shows 500 error? What could the issue be?

Hey, http://www.interconnect.org.uk/ - the site seems to load fine, but for some reason the site is not getting indexed.   I tried running the site on screaming frog, and it gives a 500 error code, which suggests it can't access the site?  I'm guessing this is the same problem google is having, do you have any ideas as to why this may be and how I can rectify this? Thanks, Andrew

Footer Link in International Parent Company Websites Causing Penalty?

Still waiting to look at the analytics for the timeframe, but we do know that the top keyword dropped on or about April 23, 2012 from the #1 ranking in Google - something they had held for years, and traffic dropped over 15% that month and further slips since. Just looked at Google Webmaster Tools and see over 2.3MM backlinks from "sister" compainies from their footers.  One has over 700,000, the rest about 50,000 on average and all going to the home page, and all using the same anchor text, which is both a branded keyword, as well as a generic keyword, the same one they ranked #1 for. They are all "nofollows" but we are trying to confirm if the nofollow was before or after they got hit, but regardless, Google has found them. To also add, most of sites are from their international sites, so .de, .pl, .es, .nl and other Eurpean country extensions. Of course based on this, I would assume the footer links and timing, was result of the Penguin update and spam. The one issue, is that the other US "sister" companies listed in the same footer, did not see a drop, in fact some had increase traffic.  And one of them has the same issue with the brand name, where it is both a brand name and a generic keyword.  The only note that I will make about any of the other domains is that they do not drive the traffic this one used to. There is at least a 100,000+ visitor difference among the main site, and this additional sister sites also listed in the footer. I think I'm on the right track with the footer links, even though the other sites that have the same footer links do not seem to be suffering as much, but wanted to see if anyone else had a different opinion or theory. Thanks!

Is using twiends.com to get twitter followers considered black hatting?

Hi, I've been struggling to get followers on Google Plus and Twitter, and recently stumbled upon twiends.com. It offers an easy service that allows you to get twitter followers very quickly.  Is this considered black hating?  Even if Google doesn't consider the followers as valid, am I likely to be punished if using their service?  Even if it doesn't help rankings, it is nice to have lots of followers so that they will see my tweets which has the potential to drive more traffic to my site, and give awareness to my business. What are your thoughts?

                              DropBox.com High PA & DA?

"What’s up with these dl.dropbox.com High PA & DA links?" You know, It's frustrating to spend almost an entire day getting a few great link backs... then to find out your competitor has hundreds of cheap & easy link backs for the keyword you are going for with greater Authority [according to SEOmoz's OSE]. So I ran a search on one of our top competitors in Open Site Explorer to gather an idea of where the heck they are getting all of their links. Please feel free to copy my actions so you can see what I see. Run a search in OSE for www[dot]webstaurantstore[dot]com. Click on the ‘Anchor Text’ Tab. Click on the first Anchor Text Term, which should be ‘restaurant supplies’ :: Then it will expand, click on the ‘View more links and details in the inbound links section.’ As you scroll down the list you will notice that they have a bunch of linking pages from dl.dropbox.com, all of them are .pdb files, for their targeted Anchor Text, restaurant supplies. Q: So my question is can someone please elaborate on what .pdb files are and how they are getting this to work for them so well? Also you will notice, on the expanded Anchor Text Page, that their 6th most powerful link for this phrase (restaurant supplies) seems to be linked straight from a porn site, I thought Google does not rank adult sites like this? Q: For future reference, does anyone know legitimate websites to maybe file an SEO manipulation complaint? Thanks!
