Citation/Business Directory Question...
-
A company I work for has two numbers... one for the std call centre and one for tracking SEO. Now, if local citation/business directory listings have the same address but different numbers, will this affect local/other SEO results?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Dan,
Hopefully your read-through of Google's guidelines will have helped to clear this up, too.

Thanks so much for all of your replies - they are much appreciated!
So much contradicting info on this subject, but thanks to William and Miriam/Simon for the valuable input.. excellent.
Cheers,
Dan

Hi P J,
Good question. Unfortunately, Google isn't fond of call centers and call tracking numbers are taboo in Local Search. Let me provide some resources for you here so that you can learn more about these issues.
Here are the Google Places Quality Guidelines:
https://support.google.com/places/answer/107528?hl=en
These guidelines state:
Website & Phone: Provide a phone number that connects to your individual business location as directly as possible, and provide one website that represents your individual business location.
- Use a local phone number instead of a call center number whenever possible.
So, you're looking to publish a local phone number that connects directly with the business.
Call tracking is a whole other kettle of fish. Recommend that you read:
http://blumenthals.com/blog/2013/05/14/a-guide-to-call-tracking-and-local/
You will want to be publishing an identical local area code phone number across all of your citations. Hope the above resources are helpful!

You need to be uniform across the web. Determine which number you want to be pronounced on the website, and schema it. It's okay to have the other phone number on there as well.
As for the uniformity of the listings across the web: put both numbers. I've spoken with a few of Google's Local Page Experts (or whatever their title is), and they've confirmed that, at least for G+ and Maps, the big deal is having the same number on your site as you do other place and putting both numbers in (one as an alt) is fine.

Local ranking factors would likely consider a uniformity of information across your web footprint. However a local listing should have a number with a local area code. I have tried free phone codes etc and none convert anywhere close to that of a recognized local number.
If you are a large or national organisation, then people almost expect lots of different numbers. If you are a local brand, then authenticity would favor the local number, as should local SEO results.
Theory's aside, you need to test the numbers after you ask your customers what they think.

Staging/Development Site Indexed?
So, my company's site has been pretty tough to try to get moving in the right direction on Google's SERPs. I had believed that it was mainly due to having a shortage of back links and a horrible home page load time. Everything else seems to be set up pretty well. I was messing around and used the site: Google search operator for our staging site. I found stage.site.com and a lot of our other staging pages in the search results. I have to think that this is the problem and causing a duplicate content penalty of the entire site. I guess I now need to 301 redirect the entire site? Has anyone every had this issue before and have fixed it? Thanks for any help.

Reviews not pulling through to Google My Business page
OK, a local SEO question! We are working with a plumbing company. A search for (Google UK) shows the knowledge panel with 20+ reviews. This is good! However, if you search for "plumbers norwich" and look at the map, thecompany is on the third page and has no reviews. I've logged into Google My Business, and it says the profile is not up to date and only 70% complete with no reviews. This is odd, as there was a fully complete profile recently. Any ideas on how best to reconcile the two? Thanks!

Yoast seo title question
I was referred to this plugin and have found it to be the most irritating and poorly designed plugin in the world. I want to be able to set my titles without it changing my page headers as well. For instance - If I set my title to be "This is my article name | site name" it will make my H1 tag read the same. I do not want or desire this nonsense. Why would they think this is something wise? Why would I want my site name on every single H1 tag on my site? How can I fix this? I only want my title to be my title. I want my H1 tag to remain the post/page name that I define in wordpress.

Do allow or disavow, that is the question!
We're in the middle of a disavow process and we're having some difficulty deciding whether or not to disavow links from Justia.com and prweb.com - justia.com alone is giving us 23,000 links with just 76 linked pages. So, to allow, or disavow? That's the question! What do you think guys? Thank you. John.

YouTube hosting question
The "How it works" video that is embedded on my sites homepage is currently linked to an individual YouTube account not our company account. I would like to change the ownership so that the company profile can enjoy the added views (currently 13K +). Is there a way to move the video to a different account without losing the views it has already accumulated? Also, a related technical question - our R&D team says the video is slowing down the site. It links to YouTube but there is nothing in the source of our page about YouTube. Any suggestions for embedding it more effectively?

Retargeting questions
The question is in reference to SEOmoz post - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/retargeting-basics-what-it-is-how-to-use-it 1. What is the size of a retargeting pixel and who places it on the site ? Is it the retargeting company ? Can we place it ourselves ? Does a code have to be added to the site ? 2. In the post mentioned above, the author talks about "burn pixel" "If a person in your audience converts then a "burn pixel" will fire" What do you mean by burn pixel ? How do we come to know that a burn pixel has fired ?

What Questions Should I Be Asking?
I just read a discussion that was originally posted by Steve Ollington on May 22, 2011 where he states that many people are asking the wrong types of questions on this forum. He said that he wonders if he will see a shift from people asking questions on "how to rank" to questions dealing with "how to work out the best KPIs" (Key Performance Indicators - yes I had to google it). I was once told we learn more by asking questions about a topic than by just listening. I've also been told that sometimes the right question to ask is, "What questions should I be asking?" So here is my question, what types of questions should I be asking to be better at SEO? Perhaps these are some of them: Is it possible to be good at SEO when it is not a full-time job? It is very tempting to look for easy answers when you only have limited time. What are considered KPI's? Are they different for every industry? How do you know what is junk information vs what is truly good SEO advice? Is it just simply trial and error? It seems to me that if people find truly good SEO information, they aren't going to be sharing it so easily. It's the whole, "You get what you pay for". Maybe some of you can tell me more of the questions I should be asking.
