I would like to track twitter traffic to my account in GA. After going through the step in the help tutorial about how to do it, I managed to generate this url ( with the help of url builder )

    http://twitter.com/UltraSEO?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social%2BMedia&utm_campaign=Ultraseo

Now what should i do next ?  Please help.  How can i track visits to my twitter profile ?

Yes you have understood it right, it seems. I would recommend googles own shortner though, since it will help google understand your tweet.

        Let me be specific.

I want to track this url - http://www.ultraseo.com/how-to-get-web-site-traffic-from-facebook/

I generated the following URL using URL builder -

        http://www.ultraseo.com/how-to-get-web-site-traffic-from-facebook/?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=social%2Bmedium&utm_campaign=Ultraseo

Should i now pass it through a URL shortener bitLy or googles own. and tweet it.

Is this what i should do ? Please reply ...

Both the urls u posted seem identical to me 🙂

          1. nope

2)since they are both just the original url, yes 🙂

3)both the parameters I wrote were examples. you could call the BigBearBunga or whatever you like. Call them whatever makes sence to you 🙂

René seems to have answered this pretty well, but help me understand something, Atul. You want to track traffic coming from Twitter to your website via only tweets you have sent out?

If that is the case, use a URL shortener like bit.ly as René recommends or use the URL builder to segment further. Using the URL builder is in my opinion though a lot of work for likely very little return. But, this at least will tell you how much traffic was generated due to your tweet regardless of whether someone clicked on your link on Twitter.com, in a Twitter app, via an RSS feed, or some other method/channel.

If you instead just want to track all traffic driven by Twitter to your website, why not simply segment out the traffic using something like a GA custom segment? It's not perfect, but it works...especially if you do not limit yourself to just Twitter and instead have a "social media" custom segment, a la http://www.seomoz.org/blog/segmenting-social-traffic-in-google-analytics

This is the URL i want to tweet  - http://www.ultraseo.com/how-to-get-web-site-traffic-from-facebook/

Should the link be like this -

                http://www.ultraseo.com/how-to-get-web-site-traffic-from-facebook/?medium=twitter&date=08043011

1 ) is it necessary to include http ( you have mentioned www )

2 ) any correction required in above url ?

3 ) is it necessary to include the date ?

The easy way for you to do it is like this:

The url you wan't to tweet: www.youdomain.com/yourart.html

Now you need to add some parameters to the end of the URL f.ex:

                  medium=twitter and date=08043011

so the url will look like this:

                  www.youdomain.com/yourart.html**?medium=twitter&date=08043011**

pass it through an URL shortener like bitLy or googles own. and tweet it.

In GA you should now be able to filter your search so you can check the traffick the tweet generated. Because you can track the URL and see how many came to your artcle by that URL. Next time you tweet someting just change the date and you can track that specific URL. same thing goes for facebook, email ex.

actualy theres a WAY easier way to do it:

grab your link pass it through biutLy. bitly will generate an URL for you. use this for the tweet. You can now track trafick (in bitly) from twitter, facebook exc.

Clearly the easiest way.. you don't even have to think 🙂

Thanks for your time and patience.

This is the twitter page of our company  http://twitter.com/UltraSEO

I need to link to an article on our site and tweet the article on company's twitter page.  The article in question is http://www.ultraseo.com/how-to-get-web-site-traffic-from-facebook/

what link should i tweet ?  Should it be http://twitter.com/UltraSEO?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social%2Bmedia&utm_campaign=Ultraseo ( generated this using URL builder )

If you could make things a bit clear, i would very much appreciate it.

"I suppose this can be done in   Traffic sources > All traffic sources. Am i right ?" sounds about right or in other words, yes 🙂

"I really, really would like to know what specific tweet traffic was generated."
each time you make a new tweet where you want to link to an article on your site, you should run through steps 1-7 and then use the link generated.

If I were you though I would read som tutorial on URL's and query strings to get the know how behind what your doing. that way you won't be shooting in the dark and will be able to write those URL's by hand.

When doing SEO, SEM and SMM its a good idea to have a basic understanding in HTML/CSS and how URI/URL's work. And know Analytics/adwords tool set by heart.

To be a good SEO: you should be able to read and write HTML, CSS and Javascript + have a basic understanding of DNS records and domains.

To be a great SEO: You should be all of the above and be able to write some basic PHP/ASP/ASP.NET and have at least a basic understanding about servers.

Hope it helps. If there is something you need me to elaborate please tell me what and I'll try to do so 🙂

"If you don't care what tweet the visitor comes from then you can just see it in GA"

I suppose this can be done in   Traffic sources > All traffic sources. Am i right ?

"You need to build a new url for each tweet" Please guide me on this. I am not that technical and relatively new to SEO Compared to you heavyweights. That's why you often see silly questions from me ...

I really, really would like to know what specific tweet traffic was generated.

Will be back in about 45 minutes. Its lunch time in my office...

If you don't care what tweet the visitor comes from then you can just see it in GA. But if you want to know what specific tweet traffic was generated by, the yes, you need to do something like what the article stated.

You need to build a new url for each tweet or you won't be able to track the specific tweet.

I hope it made sense else ask me to clarify and I'll do so 🙂

You mean to say  Traffic sources > All traffic sources report in GA will show no. of visits to my Twitter profile.

Actually, i read this at http://www.ehow.com/how_8547532_track-twitter-data-analytics.html

I wanted to know what to do in step 7 ?

you could use an url shorten-er like bit.ly but GA can tell you this whitout the use of all that, so why not just check the trafic sources in GA?

                                Why Google de-rank a website.

Hi, I was inspecting a website which is covering the topic of best wheelbarrow of 2021, it is a new website and and starts ranking on google. But, after few days it got de-rank automatically and Moz is also not showing any result to that. I was wandering why this just happened and what should I do if I made my website and will not face this kind of situation?

Google Search Console Not Sending Messages

One of our sites received a Manual Penalty for unnatural links by Google. However, we never received a message in Google Search Console or an email about the manual action. The only reason we knew about the penalty is by the obvious drop in rankings, then signing into search console to look for any manual actions, which we found. Since then, we have submitted a disavow file and a reconsideration request. However, once again we did not receive an email or message in search console that shows confirmation of the disavow or that they received the reconsideration request. The disavow file does show up after I upload it, and it says it was successfully uploaded... but no messages or emails. After many hours of investigating the various canonical versions of our website on Search Console, we found out that there were several “owners” of the various canonical versions of our site that had “could not find the email address” as a site owner. We found out that these were previous employees who no longer worked with the company and their email address was deleted. After unverifying these site owners, (all the ones that had “could not find the email address” as the site owner), the notifications, emails and messages in Search Console started to appear. However, the only place they did not appear, is the main canonical version of our site. Of course, the main canonical version of our site (https://www) is the version that we uploaded the disavow and reconsideration request. This is the canonical version of the site that we need to receive these messages to know if our reconsideration request was granted! We’ve just reuploaded the disavow file and reconsideration request to all of the other canonical versions (2 of the 3 received the message about the penalty)…. and we are currently awaiting a response. Has anybody else had problems with not receiving notifications in search console due to deleted email addresses?

How to check if an individual page is indexed by Google?

So my understanding is that you can use site: [page url without http] to check if a page is indexed by Google, is this 100% reliable though? Just recently Ive worked on a few pages that have not shown up when Ive checked them using site: but they do show up when using info: and also show their cached versions, also the rest of the site and pages above it (the url I was checking was quite deep) are indexed just fine. What does this mean? thank you p.s I do not have WMT or GA access for these sites

How do I get out of google bomb?

Hi all, I have a website named bijouxroom.com; and I was in the 7th page for the search term takı in google; and 2nd page for online takı. Now, I see that in one day my results seem to be on the 13th and 10th page in google respectively. I made too much anchor text for takı and online takı. What shall I do to gain my positions back? Thanks in advance. Regards,

Does Google know what footer content is?

We plan to do away with fixed footer content and make, for the most part, the content in the traditional footer area unique just like the 'main' part of the content. This begs the question, do Google know what is footer content as opposed to main on page content?

                                Does Google index XML files?

Does Google or other search engines include XML files in their index? More specifically, I am wondering how Google knows the difference between an xml filetype and an RSS feed.
