Competitor getting External Links from search.aol.com
-
Recently, I noticed that one of the competitors I track within my Moz campaign received about 12 new inbound links. As a result, there DA jumped about 10 points. I reviewed these new external links and was surprised to see that they are all "search.aol.com/aol/search?query= ..." with Link Anchor Text that is good for the industry we compete in.
Can anyone tell me why these are being counted as "Inbound Links". It just doesn't seem right. Is this some sort of black hat seo tactic?

I'm seeing something very similar, except the inbound links are all for my site (not a competitor.) This isn't intentional, and I can't figure out why/how it's happening. Did you make any progress on this? Every link is showing the exact same Shopper Approved review (identical text.) The only difference is that the query in the search box is unique.
There are over 600 of these inbound links, all linking to (1) our homepage, and (2) our Shopper Approved page. Both are followed links.
Any ideas? I'm going to reach out to Shopper Approved and see if they have anything to say, but I have a feeling that'll be a dead end.

Yes this does not seem right. Did you check out the url the link is coming from. Is it in text with an anchor text. Or is it in a profile page?

If links have been disavowed, do they still show in crawl reports?
I have a new client who says they have disavowed all their bad links, but I still see a bunch of spammy backlinks in my external links report. I understand that disavow does not mean links are actually removed so will they continue to show in Google Webmaster Tools and in my Moz reports? If so, how do I know which ones have been disavowed and which have not? Regards, Dino

Getting a URL Unaccessible on the page grader
I'm optimizing a site for a financial advisor, here is the site: http://www.mattkeenancfp.com I am getting the message "that URL is unaccessible" when I try to use the on-page grader. This is an emerald website too, I'm not sure if that has any effect on anything though.

Question on redirect and internal link count
After crawl I saw that dup content came from domain.com/index.php and domain.com. I was going to redirect one of them but im curious which way to go. The /index.php has domain auth of 19, the other 17, so not big difference. Domain.com has 2 external linking domains and index.php has 1. The big difference is in the internal link counts where index.php has 76 and the other only 4. So should I direct index.php to / or the other way around?

How Old is OSE link data?
I ran an anchor text report for my client today, which shows that their site has some incoming comment spam links using totally unrelated phrases (pharma products). However, when looking for the live link, the linking page no longer contains the link to them. Maybe the webmasters removed these, but I can't track down a single one... how old is this data? thanks

Why is the linking root domains count not increasing
For the last month I have been tracking my backlinks thru open site explorer. Over the same period I have gone on a minor link building exercise via social media, some directories as well as writing fresh new content for the site. However, my backlink count has increased in the Rank Tracker tool but my root linking domains have remain at the same level. Is there a lag or is this because some of these site are not in the open site index? To be specific - I have personally setup follow links from sites like tumblr, posterous, stumbleUpon, delicious and other like these. Would really like to understand the limitations so I can take the appropriate action. Thanks

Localized Search Results
I provide SEO for local service providers therefore I am mostly interesting in ranking highly in the "localized results" SERPs. Is anyone familiar with any good tools, infographics, blogs, or webinars that could be of benefit? How big of a radius do the localized results usually encompass? Are the keyword ranking reports from SEOmoz even relevant for reporting purposes? Should I include the city name (i.e. "Seattle Doctor", "Doctor in Seattle", "Doctor Seattle", etc.) in my keyword research or is this becoming less relevant? Any insight is welcome and appreciated! Thanks in advance!!
