Moz Q&A is closed.
After more than 13 years, and tens of thousands of questions, Moz Q&A closed on 12th December 2024. Whilst we’re not completely removing the content - many posts will still be possible to view - we have locked both new posts and new replies. More details here.
Why are there less backlink domains in Moz vs. Semrush?
-
For our domain studyville.com, Semrush is reporting 46 linking domains, and Moz is reporting 7. Does anyone know where there is such a large discrepancy?
-
@shelbythomas No software will find all your links. A link going to your site might not even be found by Google... So just because you know it exists, doesn't mean its definitely associated with your site.
We have tons of user generated links going to our companies within The Klyne Group. We use SEM rush to run a quick backlink audit, but no software will find all your links. In fact, they often tell you that you've lost a backlink when it might still be there. So double check before you reach out to ask why they no longer link to your site.
You can use Majestic to pull in more links, but it won't really inspire more ways to get more high quality links, so there isn't much point.
Try looking at the 'links' in Google Search Console to see how many links are associated with your site.
-
Given the immense size of the internet and the amount of pages that crawlers need to index, no SEO tool will be able to consistently discover all links back to your website.
The difference between the platforms will be down to them not looking at/indexing the same sites at the same rate.
You should look at Googles search console to see what links google actually associates with your site.

Semrush provides a lot of data relating not just to SEO, but PPC too — if you want a tool that covers both areas, it's a much better option than Moz. If you envisage doing a lot of backlinks or keyword research every day, then Semrush is considerably better value than Moz.

for my personal blog at cerita-silat.net , semrush only reports 13 domains, while Moz reports 20 domains.
sometimes semrush win, sometimes Moz win

Nofollow backlinks - are they worth it?
As we all attempt to get backlinks for the sites we manage, I have to wonder if it's worth it at all to get a nofollow backlink. Does Google give and positive credit for a link to a site if it is a nofollow link? Obviously, the follow links are worth pursuing. I'm just trying to gain some perspective. Thanks, Wick

I have some excellent quality backlinks (telegraph,dailyexpress...) and moz doesn't add them 2 month after?
Hello the MOZ community, My question is simple. I read on the forum that if moz doesn't add your backlinks after quite a while, it's because they are poor value. But in my case, these links are excellent (DA 90-100). Some of the examples (not index after 2 months): http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/news/timelapse-photography-southeast-asia-swiss-couple/

Building backlinks for a newspaper site?
Anyone have tips on building links to a newspaper site? I am looking for a strategy to create links to a news site beyond building one link at a time. We have so much content that is constantly updated that it would be impossible to do this one page at a time.

Outgoing links - internal vs. external
I thought that the important factor in the value of a link was how many outing links a page has total. Some tools seems to tell me that the important data point is how many EXTERNAL links a page has. Which number should I be paying attention to when looking at pages I want to get linked from? (Yes, I know there are many other factors that are important)

Iframes vs links
Obviously, websites can link to another web site using iframes, and Google and other search engines do seem to have some capability to index the content. What I want to know is what is the difference in value passed between a regular link and an iframe link. <iframe src="http://www.targetwebsite.com/targetlink"><br /><br />will have the same page ranking effect on the target web site as this link: <br /><br /><a href="http://www.targetwebsite.com/targetlink">link</a><br /><br />Alternative, would it work to include an invisible actual link right before the iframe, like this: <br /><br /><a style="display: none;" href="http://www.targetwebsite.com/targetlink">link</a><br /><iframe src="http://www.targetwebsite.com/targetlink"/></p> <p><span style="color: #5e5e5e;">The reason is that we are building a product recommendation engine, for a branded cosmetology school in order to get our concept salons to link back to use and I was curious if creating a version they can use as an iframe will give us link benefit.</span></p></iframe>
