I mostly use this forum for business questions, but now it's a personal one!

I'm trying to find a supplier that might still have discontinued product.  It's the Behritone C5A speaker monitor.

All my searches bring up a plethora of pages that appear to sell the product... but they have no stock. (Wouldn't removing these pages make for a better internet?)  No 2nd hand ones on eBay

Do you have any suggestion about how I can get more relevant results... i.e find supplier that might still have stock?  Any tips or trick I may be able to use to help me with this?

Yes you are absolutely correct, alt tags are for people, and should be used to that end. When I said it 'tells' Google what the images is about I was responding directly to Shawn's comment that ALT tags are for accessibility, not SEO...

Technically yes, but Google does use the alt text as a relevancy signal (at least as far as we know).  And ranks your image (in Google images) based primarily on that information.  It’s a part of SEO for better or worse.  Besides, you can both improve your on-page AND give relevant and meaningful info to the user, i've never had to choose.   If it came down to it I’d always prioritize the user.

Think of the user. Some poeple don't have their images active when useing the web.  What would they want to see?

You should be fine with the example you give.   So long as you don't just repeat 'lego for kids’ over and over on the page!  Just add your keywords into natural writing style that your users will find usefull and infomative.

Alt tags are useful for SEO. They 'tell' Google what the image is all about.  The images and the alt text should be relevant to what's on your page. So I hope your page is about lego products

Alt tags also makes your images more likely to rank in Google images for relevent keyword searches.  This is becoming more popular with people who like to scan through products visually.

Hi Andy!  Thankyou sooooooo much!  I'm kinda new to this.  I worked for them for while as a product guy. I realised the SEO was lacking and so I've sorta stepped into that role.

Makes a lot of sense, I will defiantly be implementing some changes.

Not sure what you meant by links that aren't the 'crumb trail'.  And also what did you mean by keyword cannibalisation?  Is that just having more than one page that you try to optimise for the same keywords?

Hi Guys.

One of my pages ranks quite well for "mid year diaries 14-15" on Google.  The problem is it's a really specific product page (A4, Hardback, day-to-a-page diary I think).

It would be much better for the user to land on our mid-year diaries category, not really deep into the site.  Why is Google prioritizing this product page over our general 'mid year diaries' category?

Especially when the category would relate to the search more accurately?

I work for TOAD diaries and I think our page rank is 10 for this search.
