Header Tags
-
Ok so I am writing different pages and the first heading is an H3 just because I wanted to it be a certain size. Then as you see the content, I have an H1 tag.
Example page: http://www.oxfordmshomes.net/condos/acadia-court-Oxford-MS
you can see that "Acadia First" is the first thing you see on the page and it uses an H3 element.
Long story short, my hierarchy is wrong. Does this have any negative effect on my SEO efforts?

Order of heading tags is important... use CSS to control size & tags other than headings!
Think of a HTML doc as you would any other academic document..
Animals
Cats
Red Cats
Pink Cats
Dogs
Round Dogs
Square Dogs
..you get the idea
-
You have links in your menu, that is enough.
as for you hierarchy, you should be ok, as a H1 is what it is, but if you don’t use a h1 SE will look for the first emphasized tag to use as a heading so its not conclusive.
Try using html5 to mark out your page.
I would use the hgroup and article tags.<hgroup class="title">
Perth SEO Company
Local SEO Perth Western Australia
</hgroup>
Blah blah blah
It is not sure if SE's are up to date on html5 yet, but they will do so,
make sure on the page specific content is in the article tag

ah yes. I did this because I wrote a page for every subdivision in my town. I don't really know a better way to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I thought that It was always good to have a link to a page and not have the page just floating on the site with no links. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There must be 100 links commented out in your code... Here is an example... <a href="[http://www.oxfordmshomes.net/condos/a-southern-place-Oxford-MS](view-source:http://www.oxfordmshomes.net/condos/a-southern-place-Oxford-MS)" class="main"> <span>A SOUTHERN PLACEspan>a>li>
-
I'm not sure what you mean by link tags commented out? Do you just mean regarding under my subdivision tabs? Thanks Egol
-
The short answer... I don't know for sure.
Clarified answer... At the present time I do not believe that there is a huge difference in how Google and other search engines treats H1, H2 and H3. However, just to have things straight... I would make that
Acadia Court an H1. You can change the appearance using css.
You didn't ask but when I looked at the code of your page I was shocked to see so many link tags commented out. I would be getting rid of those if this was my site.

Added a canonical ref tag and SERPs tanked, should we change it back?
My client's CMS uses an internal linking structure that includes index.php at the end of the URLs. The site also works using SEO-friendly URLs without index.php, so the SEO tool identified a duplicate content issue. Their marketing team thought the pages with index.php would have better link equity and rank higher, so they added a canonical ref tag, making the index.php version of the pages the canonical page. As a result, the site dropped in the rankings by a LOT and has not recovered in the last 3-months. It appears that Google had automatically selected the SEO-friendly URLs as the canonical page, and by switching, it re-indexed the entire site. The question we have is, should they change it back? Or will this cause the site to be reindexed again, resulting in an even lower ranking?

Titles tags: Smart to split brand name composed of multiple keywords?
Hello, We've been following the best practices outlined in this Moz article for title tags for a long time, however I have a question about the spelling of the brand name when the brand name is composed of keywords. For example, let's say your company is called FitnessGearUSA and your website url is www.FitnessGearUSA.com. How would you spell the brand name in the title tag? In a single word 'FitnessGearUSA' or in 3 words 'Fitness Gear USA'. We've been using the first approach for a long time, but I am starting to think that the second approach would be better, especially when the customer might include a single keyword that's part of the brane name in his search For example, a product page title tag would then look like this:

Model ABC Weight Lifting Bar | Fitness Gear USA I am inclined to think that this page would rank better for a search like:
"Model ABC Lifting Bar USA" Thoughts?0 -
Changing title tag in wordpress media pages
Hello! I have a problem of duplicate title on 59 pages in Worpress. I Guess it happened after a recent WP update, because, suddenly, I got a peak of 59 from zero in a day. The SeoMoz crawl report states that there are 59 duplicate title. As you may see in the picture those are all media pages, whose title is written really badly with the formula postname/filename/blogTitle, ending up with trunkated, too long, title tags, that result in duplicate page title. How can I simply hide these mediapages or sculpting the title tag the way I want? I am using all-in-one-seo WP plugin, which doesn't seem to provide a solution. Thank you all! What if meta description tag comes before meta title tag? Do the search engines disregard or penalize if the order is not title then description in the HTML?
Do the search engines disregard or penalize if the order is not title then description in the HTML? A client's webmaster is a newbie to SEO and did just this. Suggestions?

Can somebody explain Canonical tags and the technical elements of SEO?
Newbie here, and learning fast. But... I can't help but feel the technical elements of SEO (i.e. canonical tags, javascript amongst others) are holding me back. My knowledge of programming and coding is basic at best. Do I have to have an understanding of this to get ahead in SEO or is it simply a case of reading some more and knowing the techniques? What percentage of SEO is technical (e.g. html coding etc...) Thanks in advance. N. p.s. could someone explain what canonical tags are?

Should i use NoIndex, Follow & Rel=Canonical Tag In One Page?
I am having pagination problem with one of my clients site , So I am deciding to use noindex, follow tag for the Page 2,3,4 etc for not to have duplicated content issue, Because obviously SEOMoz Crawl Diagnostics showing me lot of duplicate page contents. And past 2 days i was in constant battle whether to use noindex, follow tag or rel=canonical tag for the Page 2,3,4 and after going through all the Q&A,None of them gives me crystal clear answer. So i thought "Why can't i use 2 of them together in one page"? Because I think (correct me if i am wrong) 1.noindex, follow is old and traditional way to battle with dup contents
Technical SEO | | DigitalJungle
2.rel=canonical is new way to battle with dup contents Reason to use 2 of them together is: Bot finds to the non-canonical page first and looks at the tag nofollow, index and he knows not to index that page, meantime he finds out that canonical url is something something according to the url given in the tag,NO? Title Tag won't update
The Home page Title Tag on my Wordpress CMS Website doesn't update. It has the Thesis Theme and All in One SEO plugin. I've updated it exactly the same on the Home page, for SEO plugin, and in the Thesis Theme - but still it displays the old one.. The site was last cached about a week ago - 3X since I've been attempting to change it. The other page's Title Tags update instantly when updated, but not the Home page. I've been digging for a solution and can't seem to find an answer. What could be the problem? (www.austinfitnessgyms.com -It should be: Austin Gym | Kickboxing in Austin | Impact MMA Fitness)
