Does Yext Directory Listings Help with Links?
-
Question: Does Yext Directory Listings Help with Links? They have 53 directories and I am trying to find out if this service is going to help building our links?
-
I agree with Takeshi. One thing that no one has mentioned here is GetListed.org (which Moz purchased in 2012 or 2013). Although their evaluation tool can be a bit wonky, it is helpful in identifying which directories your business may or may not be in, and there is an interface that helps you submit your listings manually which is completely free. If you have more time than money, this can be a good alternative to services like Yext. Hope that helps. Cheers!

Hi Timothy,
The purpose of building citations on local business directories (whether manually or via a paid service like Yext) is to build up the authority of your basic business data (your business NAP - name, address, phone number) so that people can find your business in a variety of places and so that all of the data proves that you have a consistent, specific brand name, physical location, local phone number and website.
I am not aware of a list of which directories, specifically, pass page rank, but trying to look at this from Google's perspective - Google would be aware that most directory listings are built by the business owner. In other words, the links they contain are being intentionally built by the business itself. Thus, I would assume that even those directory links which do pass page rank are not going to be as highly valued as links you earn in other ways (voluntary mentions, guest posting, etc.).
Because of this, I don't consider citation building to be equivalent to link building. The latter requires additional and different efforts.

Directory links don't pass much link value, but it can still be useful to be listed in the top directories for local citations. Yext can automate the process if you're short on time & resources, but you can also submit to the directories manually for full control of the process.
They even provide a list of all the directories they submit to:

Are directories still a valid practice? If so what are some of your favorite and most authoritative directories?
After combing over several competitor sites I have found many if not the majority of their links are from directories. I am curious to know if individuals/companies/seos etc. still use directories, if so what are some of the favorites?

What are the pros and cons of using a link builder? Can link building be outsourced?
Hi, I have great content on my website which I would like to build external links to from other websites. I am told this will increase my domain authority and ultimately help search engine ranking positions. I have very limited time in my hands and now thinking of outsourcing the link building component to a specialist. Is this a good way of doing it? Could you recommend professional link builders?

Will a link from a competitor help me to out rank them?
Greetings mozers, One of my competitors and I both rank on the first page for our main keyword. They have 37k+ links, me only like 300 or so. My company actually has a business location though. This other site is just a listing of locations and they build sites for most of my competitors. If I were able to get listed on their site, would that make me a stronger competitior with them? And we would probably only get a brand term link from them but not a main keyword anchor text. Will it be as effective to get the link from them if it's only for my brand name? Thanks, Cy

Back Link: Is LinkedIn keywords in profile good Link building strategy?
I distribute industrial products B2B with e commerce. I have a personal profile on LinkedIn. I listed the products I sell and I could have all my partners and associates list my web site on their profiles. Do search engines review LinkedIn personal profiles or company profiles and is it a good marketing strategy to have my web site, keywords, and my two largest selling products on LinkedIn?

How do directories that pull listings from DMOZ work?
I've listed an example below. I see these all the time, where a directory pulls it's listings from DMOZ. So you would naturally assume that if you're in DMOZ, you would get these links, but that's not the case. This particular link was picked up by OSE so I'm wondering what the quality of these links really are and if they're legit? Also, if you go to the main subdomain the page just says "Buy shirts". What is the deal with these types of so-called "directories"? http://www.searches.org/go/search/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Furniture/ Another example: http://www.westcairn.com/furniture.htm

Do links within imbeddable widgets carry link juice?
I'm dipping my toes into infographic design. On of my desired outcomes is to gain links by having other sites embed my graphic. I'm considering using Tableau's interactive data visualization software to do so; thus creating a widget, embedding it on my blog, and including the embed code for others to post. Is it possible to include a juice passing link in such an infographic? I know its possible to include links inside the tableau graphic but not sure if they have straight SEO value. If these links are not juice passing would it be better to go with a simple image link that passes value?
