Link juice from subdomain
-
Does having a blog on a subdomain as opposed to an extension of the root domain add or subtract to improving SEO on the root domain? For eg : what's better, HTTP://blog.durbansouthtoyota.co.za Or HTTP://www.durbansouthtoyota.co.za/blog When the www is the actual main site. Thanks!

You'll absolutely want to get the blog moved to the subdirectory. Tell your developers they must use 301 redirects to point the traffic from the old subdomain pages to the new location. As long as the blog's site structure and URLs remain the same, that will be a pretty straightforward redirect to write.
Once they've done the redirect, test by going to a bunch of the old page addresses and making sure you end on the new pages.
Also use a header-checking tool on the new pages to confirm that it's actually showing that 301 redirect was used (not a 302, for example)
The sooner you do this the better, so that new incoming links will be pointing directly to the new location instead of being redirectd through the old location.
if you want best bang for the buck, check for the strongest links that currently point to the old site and see if you can get their webmasters to update them to point to the new URLs. Even pages that are redirected don't pass 100% of their authority through the 301 to the new page, and there is evidence to indicate that the 301s pass less authority as they age.
All good reasons to get the move done as soon as practical.
Good luck!
Paul
P.S. If your blog has a name that people may begin to recognize & remember (ie that is different from the site name) strongly consider naming the folder /the-blog-name instead of just /blog. Every bit of distinctiveness helps!

Hey,
Thanks for the reply. My bad. After posting that question, I noticed from the related posts, that this has been dealt with previously, and basically most people lean towards the sub-folder method.
I have a problem since we have already launched our blog on the subdomain.
I am talking to our developers to consider moving it to the sub-folder setup. Is there a recommended method, to take care of all links to the old sub-domain - blog.durbansouthtoyota.co.za? I'm guessing some sort of re-direct right? I need to pass this info to our developers.
Thanks!

I prefer putting the blog in a subdirectory rather than a subdomain for SEO. The search engines treat subdomains as a completely separate site so any backlinks you get pointed to blog.domain.com will not benefit www.domain.com's SEO whereas links pointing to www.domain.com/blog will.
Here is a great blog post for more details - http://www.agent-seo.com/blogging/seo-subdomain-vs-subdirectory/,
I've pasted a few highlights below -
**Subdirectory **
This situation for me is the most ideal from an SEO standpoint. I prefer to use a subdirectory (or “subfolder”) over a subdomain or external site any day.
Matt Cutts agrees with me:
“My personal preference on subdomains vs. subdirectories is that I usually prefer the convenience of subdirectories for most of my content. A subdomain can be useful to separate out content that is completely different. Google uses subdomains for distinct products such news.google.com or maps.google.com, for example. If you’re a newer webmaster or SEO, I’d recommend using subdirectories until you start to feel pretty confident with the architecture of your site. At that point, you’ll be better equipped to make the right decision for your own site.”
Rand Fishkin agrees with me too, but does go on to detail compelling usage examples for subdomains:
“Starting a blog? I almost always recommend yoursite.com/blog over blog.yoursite.com.”
**Subdomain **
This is the second best option in my opinion for SEO. A subdomain is basically a separate or third-tier website that just so happens to be residing off of the root domain. Search engines typically view them as wholly separate entities. I would only use this if the blog was completely separate to your services (or if your site infrastructure does not allow you to add blogging software to the root domain).

Bottom top or footer for internal linking
ı am trying to improve internal linking in one of my projects. I wonder if there is any difference in bottom top and footer linking on a website. You can check the website here https://www.mngturizm.com/, ı added my main pages in menu and others in bottom top. İs there any evidence that it is usefull or not. I did not see short term evidence.

Tracking Down Rogue Spam Links
In Feb, 2015 www.mommyupgrade.com site received the following notification in GWT: http://www.mommyupgrade.com/: Suspected hackingFeb 4, 2015
Content Development | | hammia
Google has detected that some of your pages may contain hidden text or cloaking, techniques that are outside our Webmaster Guidelines.
Specifically, we detected that your site may have been modified by a third party. Typically, the offending party gains access to an insecure directory that has open permissions. Many times, they will upload files or modify existing ones, which then show up as spam in our index.
Sample URLs:At that time, the site was checked by the host and site owner and any suspicious links removed. We thought the problem was resolved until a MOZ crawl on March 22 which highlighted a number of hack links again. This is the link format: http://www.mommyupgrade.com/?p=online-slots All are related to gambling, casinos and slots. To find the links, we downloaded the MOZ crawl report and found that all the links were referred from this page: http://www.mommyupgrade.com/how-to-make-rainbow-lollipop-cookies/ Searching that post shows no sign of links to the rogue pages. I would really appreciate some advice on how to find the source of these links and delete them from this site once and for all. Also, please explain how it is possible for a post or page to refer to another page without that link showing up in the code? (Is this some black hat technique that I need to know about in order to protect my sites?) Also... at the moment Google Webmaster Tools are not reporting any security issues for this site. Any help appreciated.0 -
Are press releases that could end up being published with duplicate content links point back to you bad for your site ?
With all the changes to the seo landscape in the resent years im a little unsure as to how a press release work looks in the eyes of Google (and others). For instance, you write up a 500 word press release and it gets featured on the following sites : Forbes Techcrunch BBC CNN NY Times etc ... If each of these cover your story but only rewrite 50% of the article (not saying these sites wouldn't re write the entire artcile, but for this purpose lets presume only 50% is rewritten) could it be negative to your backlink profile, ? Im thinking not, as these sites will have high authority, but what if once your press release is published on these sites 10 other smaller sites re publish the stories with almost no re writing, either straight from the press release or straight from the article in the mainstream news sites. (For clarification this Press release would be done in the fashion of a article suggestion to relevant journalists, rather than a blanket press release, via PR Newswire, mass mail out etc. Although i guess the effect with duplicate content backlinks is the same.) You now have c. 50 articles online all with very similar content with links pointing back at you, would this have a negative effect or would each link just not carry as much value as it normally would. By now we all understand publishing duplicate content on our own sites is a terrible idea, but dose have links pointing back to your self from duplicate (or similar) content hosted on other sites (some being highly authoritative) effect your site 's seo ?

Should I Be Concerned about Too Many Links in Interview?
I was contacted recently from a small online magazine (DA 17) who wanted to interview me about my area of expertise. Although it's not a high authority site, I gladly accepted, conducted the interview, and he posted it on his site today. Throughout the course of the final interview article, he linked to my website 5 times. Once in the intro, and 4 times in reference to different answers I gave. At this point, I'm wondering if it looks like a spammy guest post, even though it was legitimately conducted. Should I ask him to remove some of the links so it doesn't look spammy? I feel kinda bad because he's not trying to do anything fishy. My Guest Blog: Still A Good Link Building Resource?
In an effort to build some links, we want to really work on improving our blog content and exposure. We want to write two quality posts per week, and submit 1 quality guest post every 1-2 weeks. However, we're not sure how to go about submitting guest posts or who to submit them to? I found an all article from SEOmoz http://moz.com/blog/4-valuable-link-building-services but it's from 2010. Is myguestblog still a good source? Are there better ways of doing it? Also, is ever advisable to pay to submit a post? Some of the legal blogs (we're a law firm) have this option, but that strikes me as spammy or low quality links. Just to reiterate, we are striving to write high-quality useful content audiences will find beneficial, not just junk or salesmanship. If it takes longer than a week to write posts like that, that's fine. We just really need some specific advise on who we should be submitting our guest posts to and who we should avoid. Thank you all so much for any advice or suggestions, Ruben

Does a directory running on a subdomain help or hurt SEO on the main site?
I have a blog, with a directory on the subdomain: directory.fbforbusinessmarketing.com. Is that smart for SEO, as it gives the overall domain more traffic? Or bad for SEO because of the different topics and all those outbound links? I'd appreciate opinions. Thanks.
