Does embedded content (from my site) help seo
-
hi
i am creating a new accommodation site and will have some great videos on it (fly bys of local beaches and virtual tours of hotels etc).
from an seo perspective i have two questions:
1. should i host on my own site or youtube/vimeo - its a new site but in the long run i want my site to get the credit
2. i will be giving the hotels the chance to embed and video content i have on their own sites. does this help my own seo juice and if so is there a particular way it should be done. there will be around 90 well established local hotels in total so figured it should add up.

Hi Neil,
Don't host the video in two separate locations. You don't want to publish it to Youtube and also store it on your own server, for example. In light of your latest comment, I'd suggest you publish the videos to Youtube, embed those videos on your site, and encourage the hotels to do the same. You should associate the Youtube channel with your own site, and provide links back to your site from the videos (as Andy suggested). Follow the steps outlined in Youtube's guide.
In an ideal world -- a world where all 90 hotels were happy to link to your website -- this advice might be different. Ideally, you'd have links to your site. But if you self-host, it seems likely that you'll have hardly any views: your hotel partners won't link to the videos, and the videos won't be easily discoverable. By hosting on Youtube and encouraging video embeds among your hotel partners, you can at least, as you said, generate a lot of interest around the content. Google does favour Youtube videos in SERPs, so this strategy should help your Youtube channel perform well for queries related to your partner hotels. You can use cards or annotations in the Youtube videos to direct visitors to your site, as well as providing a link in the description.

thanks andy - yep that tricky part is the hotels wont want to embed the video if it links to my site (as that will then mean someone could end up seeing their competitors). i guess i could do both with a version on my site and one on youtube or is that dodgy for duplication? sorry for confusion but its a key part of my content strategy and i have investing in high spec cameras to eithr do drone footage or virtual tours (which would sit on my site) and want to ensure this engaging content gets viewed as much as possible (so embedded on their sites) whilst enhancing the credibility of my own site
thanks - sorry for waffle!

Look past YouTube for your SEO benefits Neil. If you have a lot of hotels working with you, links from these to key pages on your site will be much more beneficial for you.
However, this doesn't mean you should ignore YouTube, as it can be a great source of traffic. Get those call-to-actions in there, as a video watermark, as a link on the video and from your channel, and engage with those that join in with the discussions. Human interaction can play a big part.

thanks - i see what you mean. as there will be potentially around 90 well established hotel sites embedding these videos (will be more than one - around 6 per hotel) is there anything i can do to get more seo juice from them doing well on youtube?

Hi,
The best way to look at video, is look at any search results where they appear - Google never shows anything that is self hosted. In terms of getting traffic from a video, I would be creating the video and hosting it on YouTube and then embedding that on your site. Create your own channel and then link back from the videos and your channel back to your site.
Perhaps if a video is embedded on a hotel's website, you could try and figure in a way to get a link back to your own site as part of the 'package' on offer.
I hope that makes sense?

Parent pages : Duplicate content
Hello, I think this question relates to "Parent pages" structure or SILO but I couldn't find an answer online. For a website that sell products, for example "Appliances". A link to this page appears in 1 category of the menu named "kitchen" but also in another 1 category named "household appliances". It means that it appears twice in the menu but with a unique URL. Would that affect SEO ? Is it duplicate content ? And would it be better to choose 1 father or let it that way ? Thanks for your help. Max

Backlink Transparency with SEO Agency
Hello everyone. I recently started working with an SEO agency and today they gave me an updated keyword report which showed some increase in rankings. I was not aware that any backlinks had been created yet so I asked for a report of the links. Their response is below and I am just wondering if this is normal practice being I have not worked with any type of SEO agency yet. "

Hey Daniel, We release a small report on them which the guest blog team will do soon. We don't reveal all backlink sources unfortunately because people have tried to bother the webmasters we have and basically steal our techniques. But rest assured you will be ranking at the top of the pack with our methods 😃

Site URL called out but not clickable.
Hi - I'm after a bit of clarity; if my site URL is referenced in an article, but doesn't actually link through, does this still 'add value' to my seo efforts? Thanks, David

A few questions I need help with and would appreciate any help.
I am currently building links to our website via estalished blogs ect (2+ years old), As far as I understand even if they are unrelated to what we do (print) as long as the post is about print the link should offer some value is this correct? Other questions I have which I would greatly appreciate advice in are as follows........ (1) Do charity websites or company websites with link pages ( about5-10 other links) or links / logo's on the front page offer value even on unrelated sites? (2) What happens if 80% of the link building I am doing comes from blogs? (3) If I have links that are clearly spam that have been built to our site can they be damaging our potential to rank and how can I remove them as I have tried to contact the relevant parties but fear pressing the button on the google tool may harm our site should I? (4) If I have a page that genuinely has a lot of mentions of a keyword (not so much the money keyword but part such as wanting to rank for pool table but end up with the different versions of keywords having table mentioned 5 - 10% of the time). Thank you for your time.

Separate blog url helpful?
I am managing a website for a hotel brokerage firm. The main URL is www.hotelassetsgroup.com but we started a new blog with the URL www.hotelsforsaleblog.com. We chose the blog URL because it has the words "hotels for sale." The main website has a tab at the top titled "Blog" which links to the blog URL. I am not sure if this is helping us or not because the main URL and blog URL are both competing for the name of the business "Hotel Assets Group." The blog has very little interlinking within the same URL because it mainly links to the main website. Should we combine the two URLs together and just have the blog URL be the same like- hotelassetsgroup.com/blog or something like that?

Helpful or Hurtfull / Distributor Links to Our site on every product page?
We have a distributor site with a page rank of 3 on its home page, and 0-1'ish on its product pages. While our manufacturing site is PR 4 getting close to 5... We are thinking about adding a link from our distributors product pages to our manufacturing appropriate material information page. This would be about 10k links spread out among 7 materials. We want to add these links to help our distributor sites customers, but we don't want to hurt our manufacturing site in the process. I personally don't know of any problem this would cause, but our manufacturing site is so important I need to verify adding this many links wouldn't hurt us. Your thoughts and knowledge is appreciated.
