We are moving our Ecommerce site to Shopify. Currently we run our blog on Wordpress and I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion on using the Shopify blog vs Wordpress?

I know it's possible depending on your host, but in the case of a Shopify-hosted website if they're saying in their own forums that it can't be done then they can't (or won't) do it. At that point either using Shopify's blog or subdomain (not recommended) are your choices. If you have an existing blog and need to import the posts to Shopify you can use: https://apps.shopify.com/blogfeeder .

          Hey Everett,

Do you know if you can actually install Wordpress in a subdirectory blog? Reading through this forum, it seems like you can't but that's also from 3 years ago...

We're considering moving our blog from within Shopify to WordPress so we can take advantage of the the more robust toolset that WP offers, but have serious concerns about the SEO implications of doing so. What you're suggesting would really help quell those concerns!

A WordPress developer should be able to help you get your blog looking more like the rest of your site, yes. I would definitely recommend having your blog at sininlinen.com/blog rather than at blog.sininlinen.com - if your blog is a subdomain, Google will have a harder time telling that it's part of your overall site and not its own, separate site.

I recommend using Shopify for the eCommerce portion of the site, but using Wordpress for the blog. Ask Shopify support if you can install Wordpress in a subdirectory /blog/ instead of a subdomain blog.yoursite.com. To Ruth's point, don't change any of the blog URLs if you don't have to.

I wouldn't use WooCommerce if you're going to have a serious online retail brand. Wordpress is about as good at eCommerce as Shopify is at blogging.

Ok , that's good to know. It's certainly easier to keep the blog where it is. Though I'm a bit concerned that the design of the blog is different than our shopify site. But maybe that's an easy fix for a Worpress developer.

Do you think it's better (or does it matter) to have the blog address at blog.sininlinen.com or at www.sininlinen.com/blog?

THanks so much for your input!

Ok, that's good to know. Currently the Header of our Shopify store looks drastically different from our Wordpress blog. How important do you think it is to match Headers when people click from one to the other?

Here's our Shopify store (under construction: pass is gietar)

                  https://sin-in-linen.myshopify.com/

                  Here is our wordpress blog:

I find WordPress' blogging functionality a lot easier to use and a lot more customizable. Not only that, if your blog is currently a significant driver of organic rankings/traffic for your site, I would recommend against moving your blog if you have the option to keep it where it is, especially if moving it would mean an overhaul in URLs/URL structure.

I've personally used the Shopify and WordPress for both e-commerce and their blogging tool within each platform. Shopify allows you to easily add blog posts and include relevant meta data, author info and categorize each page accordingly. However, I believe wordpress is a lot more intuitive to use.

If you already have your blog on Wordpress I would not bother putting everything on Shopify. I did find a good forum with some additional information about Shopify and Wordpress you may find helpful.

Strategies for Enhancing Lead Generation from Blog Posts

                            content marketing lead form wordpress

Hello Moz Community, I've been running a blog ( www[dot]arrify[dot]com ) for a while, focused on Salesforce. I'm looking to enhance my lead-generation efforts through my blog content. I would appreciate insights and strategies on the following: SEO Best Practices: How can I optimize my blog posts for better search engine visibility to attract more potential leads? Content Engagement: What types of content (e.g., infographics, videos, in-depth guides) have been most effective for engaging readers and encouraging them to provide their contact information? CTA Placement: Where is the most effective placement for calls-to-action within a blog post to maximize lead capture without detracting from user experience? Lead Capture Forms: Are there any recommended practices for designing lead capture forms that encourage sign-ups? Any specific examples or case studies would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

How much impact it has? 2- Every body says content is the king, Ok fine, but when you are not allowed to share it on the main corporate site, then where to share it? Blog and social media sites? please help. 3- We are in a business where clients do not bother to go on sites and read, so in this scenario is it correct to say that you hav to create the content for search engine consumption even when your clients dont need it/or have not in the habit of reading it? Hope somebody will enligten me caught in catch 22. Regards Tanveer

How do I fix a broken link to a product category page in wordpress?

We are building a new site currently at http://67.222.109.48/~cheapnan/ I started doing some SEO after the developer I hired failed to do it even though it was in the agreement. I did our old site so I should be able to do this but I am new to wordpress. Now when i go to the products tab at the top of the page the first 2 have broken links, I checked the rest and there are 3 total that I need to fix.  I am unsure how to access the navigation so I can fix the links.  Please tell me where to look.

Is it okay to delete old blog posts?

Hi All, I'm doing some SEO work on an entertainment (movies/tv/gaming) blog that started in 2011. Their recent articles have gained some popularity due to improved content and marketing, but there is some old stuff from the early days that was poorly written and gets virtually no traffic. These are mostly old news pieces. Out of approximately 10,000 articles, about 1,000 are receiving the lions share of the traffic. I feel like their good content is getting bogged down in a sea of crap. Would there be any harm in deleting some of those old posts? Is there a best practice for culling content? Thanks!

How Are You Handling Blog Posts/Author Pages when Employees Leave the Company?

What do you believe to be the best approach in handling blog content for employees once they have left the company? We don’t want to remove the blog posts so they need to stay, but then there are the author pages. This gets tricky because the CMS ties the blog post to the author. One approach might be to change the author’s name to the Company’s name to get around author pages for people no longer with the company. It’s kind of tricky because the blog posts won’t have the same credibility if they don’t have a person’s name/photo associated with the post.  We could leave the blogger’s page and list him as a “Contributing Author” once he’s left the company. Thoughts?

Difference in Forum and Blog for SEO

I was pushing my employer to agree to switch to add a blog onto our site and he asked me, what is the difference between the blog and a forum for SEO purposes. Besides the general look and feel and a forum being more community oriented, is a blog better than a forum for seo, and if so, why? It can be vice-versa I just need to fully understand this myself so I can begin to work on one and explain it to my employer. If anyone can provide any insight, it will be much appreciated.

Blog Posts: 1 link per 125 words?

I've seen this "1 link per 125 words" for blog posts suggestion pop up a variety of places. I wanted to know if that's "correct" or a best practice? In my posts, I generally write between 800 to 1200 words with about 4 to 6 links in the body of the post. However, (and this may be a problem) I add about 13 links in my closing paragraph, "if you have any legal questions, etc etc, click here for your "Tampa personal injury attorney, Clearwater Personal Injury Attorney, etc etc for all the areas we practice in related to that blog post." Should I stop doing that? Does that come off as spammy? (The blog is hosted on our site, if that matters for this question at all). Thanks, Ruben

                            Wordpress Duplicate Pages/ URL's - Help !

Hi guys, I have been running SEOMoz for just over a month and slowly cleaning up one of my Wordpress Blogs.   While going through the crawl reports I have noticed that I have duplicate pages showing on the crawl. For example, the main post would be; www.xxxxx.com/blog/post-title Then I see another URL which would be; **www.xxxx.com/blog/page/59 ** When I click on either URL it goes back to the actual post title URL. What's with these page URL's ?   Isn't these two URL's showing duplicate content to the search engines ? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
