I'm doing SEO for a product review website, and I'm curious what link building opportunities are best for this category.

    Assume only the following:

    • The website is basically a blog
    • Most of the articles are reviews on cosmetic products, though there are also articles regarding news, product roundups, tips&tricks and similar content
    • The website is in a local, non-english language

Disregarding low-value opportunities such as directories, what kind of websites should I aim for outreach purposes?

So far, I'm thinking the following:

    • Product manufacturers (very low success chance, as the review site is fairly new and in a localized language)
    • E-commerce sites selling the products (average to low success chance, since a lot of them use CMSes that might not allow integration of a review)
    • Other cosmetic blogs, particularly for guest blogging (average to low success chance, since the website is fairly new)

Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

      Hey Mike,

Apologies if i pronounced your name incorrectly.

      In answer to your questions:

      1. Do both. The review on the site will bring in longtail traffic for the client and the link from the competition or secondary review will pass more authority back to your site.

      2. That's a tricky one- what is the local language? In the first instance I would use advanced operators that alow content submissions or have communities around your product. FOr example: intitle:write for us "beauty" or use the wildcard to search for lists "top*Beauty Blogs [local place name]"

3.Why not contact a local beauty school and ask them to trial the product? Or sponsor a prize giving/ award ceremony/study group/sports team and get them to link back to your site.

      4. This depends on the scenario, if you link is on a blogroll with 100 other links all using keywords to link then this is bad .But if your site is on a blogroll with a small amount of quality sites, this is fine.

Link Building is like your diet, everything is fine in moderation. 😉

        Thanks for the response Anthony!

However, I'm mainly interested in link prospecting / building opportunities. The client himself is building the content, so my job is prospecting sites, doing outreach and building relationships.

Good stuff, thanks! I have to say, I wasn't expecting a video actually tailored for my response (thought it might be some general link building video that I might find useful).

Let me give you some more details:

          • the client is actually building all the content (though I will advise him on what content performs best, what are people looking for and so on), so I'm there only for the actual link building (outreach + promoting the articles)
          • the client doesn't care about monetizing his website atm (so no affiliate links, at least for now)

Regarding what you said, a few questions:

          1. You've mentioned getting/buying some products and sending them to a local blogger for a review article with a backlink. Would this get  higher return than the client actually reviewing them himself?
          2. Web 2.0 websites, any idea which work well with non-english websites? Already checked hubpages and couldn't find anything related to cosmetic related local language queries.
          3. You've mentioned link building from universities and colleges in your answer, but haven't seen this in the video. What did you have in mind?
          4. What do you think about getting "blogroll" backlinks, on blogs which are in related niches (lifestyle, nutrition, what you mentioned in the video)? Being blogwide, are those too spammy?

Thanks again, really appreciate the effort!

PS: You can call me Mike 🙂

            Hi Mahai-

If you are writing reviews on your website, I would focus on making them the most comprehensive reviews available online of each product you are reviewing. A well-written, thought-out, balanced review with great pictures will be appreciated by everyone.

If the review is positive, the company whose product is reviewed might very well link out to you. Who doesn't like linking/sharing a positive testimonial/review for their own product? Make it easy for them to link to it. Offer an embeddable badge or graphic perhaps.

Other websites looking for information about the product will also likely link to your review as well, respecting it for the well-thought out, balance review that it is.

Put the focus on the reviews. The links will come.

              Hi Mihai,

Great questions. I put together a video for you explaining what I would do to build links to your site. It goes over the basic stuff like doing outreach, competitions and review to the more complex stuff like getting universities and colleges to link to your site. I hope you like it and find it useful. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

An interesting idea, though not so popular with non-english speaking countries. Also, the website being new, I prefer to have most if not all content on the website itself, at least until there's a minimum dozen of posts/reviews.

                Thanks!

Would recommend joining myblogguest.com this way you can get articles with back links to websites of your choice and you can also publish articles on great and popular websites provided you can submit quality articles that you wrote yourself. Your articles can contain anchor text with backlinks to your website.

                  Hope this helps.

                    Link building with PDFs

I created a manual for a popular piece of equipment and placed it, as a PDF-file, on my website. The PDF contains a clickable link to the root domain of my website. Other websites have downloaded the PDF and put it on their own website, hosting it themselves. Since Google indexes PDFs, does the link in the PDF count as a regular 'link' from an external website, and does it have comparable value? Can't find any thoughts or studies about this anywhere.

DA vs PA when building links

When building links to your site from other sites, what is more important or what weights more heavily? Say a site has a DA of 20 and PA of 34 for that page I want a link from. Say another site has the revese, a DA of 34 and a PA of 20. All things being equal, which site's link to me would be better? The one with a higher DA or the one with a higher PA for the on the specific page I would get a link?

Is tiered link building a good thing?

I think that I have watched all the webinairs and online courses available on the web, but I still don't seem to know how and where to get links from. I know what type of links I should be getting and what type I should be avoiding, but that little luck so far. I came across the website of Matthew Woodward about tiered link building where he explains how to do this type of link building in depth. It seems quite interesting but also a lot of work so I don't want to invest my precious time in something that will be penalised by Google in the near future. Is there anyone that can give me some reason why I should or shouldn't do this?

                    Link Building Ideas?

Hi everyone, I am currently working on a site where people can buy mail-order bagels, i.e. the bagels are shipped via postal mail. It's a good alternative for places that have no good bagel stores nearby, especially in small, rural towns. I am about to launch a link-building campaign for the website, but am a little stuck as to where to begin. My first thought was guest posting, but it seems like the vast majority of food blog owners are very protective of their blogs and rarely, if ever, allow guest posts. I also thought about doing sponsored reviews (i.e. sending mommy bloggers free samples in exchange for a review), but that's essentially a paid link, i.e. a no-no. There are of course generic web directories, but those only get you so far, and article marketing is out of the question (too spammy). Was hoping I might be able to bounce off some ideas off of you all. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance for whatever tips/ideas you might be able to share 🙂 Lukas

Asking dealers for links if they sell your products:

Should you ask your dealers for links back to you? For example, if you are a laminate flooring manufacturer, should you ask all your retailers to link to you? If so, how do you go about it? Emails? A form letter? Should I create a page on the site for banners and let them grab the code? Any creative ideas would help.

Linking strategy between my own sites

Hi, I have one main site, let's call it  food.com I also have 10 smaller sites, let's call them   mexicanfood.com, indianfood.com, italianfood.com etc food.com is on its own separate dedicated server the 10 smaller sites are all on a shared IP in hostgator I don't want Google to think that I have created the 10 sites for only purpose of creating links to each other. So, would you recommend that all those 10 sites link to each other? or should there be no interlinking within those 10 same IP domains? What about linking from those 10 sites to my main site? How should I structure my own backlinks not to get penalized by Google ?

Building Links to Exact Match Domains

What are the pros and cons having exact match domain and how can you create a brand name and build backlinks? Say we have a domain personalizedbirthdaygifts.com We are quite stuck with what anchor text we need to use and how do we vary it? I've heard that we have to stay away from using commercial keywords as anchor text heavily. We have to also use our brand name. And here we get stuck as we don't have a brand name. In this case Our brand name should be personalized birthday gifts but this is also commercial keyword. I have seen before similar websites droped from ranking because they have commercial keywords in their domain and most of their backlink anchor texts are commercial. If I had a website called twentyfive.com selling birthday gifts it would be a lot easier. But when you have a website personalizedbirthdaygifts.com and trying to rank for personalized birthday gifts and birthday gifts it's tough. OR isn't it? I hope I explained it well and didn't confuse anybody... Thanks
