Where to put reciprocal links on my site?
-
I am starting a link bulding campaign and want to know where to put the reciprocal links on my site.
Do i create a new specific Link Page? or do i place them on the pages that i want ranked higher?
This is my first question on SEOMoz. Please be kind....:)
Thanks

Welcome to SEOmoz Aidan,
The best advice I can give you is to stay away from reciprocal link schemes. The links are not worth it and are in violation of Google's Webmaster Guidelines which can negatively impact your site in search rankings. Read about this here:
Google is massively clamping down on this and has even demoted many of these poor quality directory sites from its index.
Hope this helps.

HI Aidan,
I'd probably avoid directories that ask for reciprocal links. Google is getting really aggressive with low quality tactics like directory submission.
For more info I'd recommend checking out articles like this one (there are plenty on the net)-

Hi Paul,
thanks for the quick response. What I am actually doing is just adding my site to local Irish Directories and some ask for a reciprocal link.
I have read a lot on the matter but I can't find some good info on where on the page to add the link.
My site homepage or my services page is where i want people to come so I am wondering is there a standard format of adding the links.
(ie) all at the bottom, in the text, separate Link partners page etc
Thanks again for the great info.

Hello Aidan, welcome to SEOMoz.
As with all link building, keep it natural. Avoid link pages.
Only link to relevant websites within your niche. When you do, it's best to mention them within a blog post or similar. I'd avoid sidebars and footers.
Google will only have an issue, if it appears that you're trying to be manipulative. I personally also link with brand name, rather than targeting keywords.
Hope that helps.

Redirecting dofollow, high-domain-authority links from one site to another: good idea?
I have two sites that offer help for freelance writers. The first gets almost no search traffic and is very low priority for me. The second is my main priority and gets substantial search traffic. The low-priority site has a significant number of dofollow backlinks from high-domain-authority sites. Is it a good idea to 301 redirect these links to similar/related posts on my high-priority site? Would this potentially boost the SEO of my high-priority site? Thanks for any help!

Does an external link to an image file on my site help my SEO?
I found a few websites that are displaying images from my site. Curiously, they have also linked these images to the source image file on my website. I found these because Moz showed these sites in my list of backlinks. I assume that means it impacts my Domain Authority. But does this actually help me in search engines since it's not linking to a page on my site?

Back link from site with DA of 72 to a website domain. Clicking on the link redirects to our website not the attended one.
Hi,
Link Building | | JIMBO16
I've ran a back link check and discovered a good back link to a site which then gets redirected back to my company's website. I have a feeling that an old SEO agency has purchased a small website which has a decent link back from a relevant organisation with a high Domain authority and then redirects the domain to our website to get the link juice. What are your thought on this? Is this really bad practise and possibly damaging? Thanks, Jim0 -

Internal Linking - Post links vs Side Bar Links behaving differently
Hi, I have a question regarding the internal linking behavior. My website is www.hindimeaning.com which is approx 3 years old. I have approx 450 posts. Now i have a widget on right sidebar "Popular posts". A widget below my posts "Related Posts". And a simple html CSS menu above the posts (I removed menu around 6 month before so currently it will not show.) I crawled my site with moz crawler (same are the result from google crawler as well) and it shows menus links as internal links. While sidebar widget "Popular posts" and "Related Posts" are not showing as internal links. If we talk theoretically what i learn till now is "every link on a page behaves as internal link". Then why the widget links are not showing as internal links. Thanks, Mahesh Kumar

Do footer links pass less link juice?
One of my best inbound links for PA and DA happens to be a footer link, curious if it's less valuable or has any value at all.

How do sites have so many 'total links'?
I've been analyzing some of our competitors: essayedge.com and papercheck.com Both sites have a large number of 'total links'... about 93,000 each. The former has about 1,200 linking root domains while the latter only has 195. Even for 1,200 linking root domains, 93k total links seems like a ton to me. Our site has 101 linking root domains and only 299 'total links'. I'm quite new to this whole SEO game and admittedly still learning a TON. Am I missing something here? How do sites generate so many links? This seems nuts to me. Thanks for any help!
