How can a site have a backlink from Barclays website?
-
Hi, I have entered a competitiors website www.my-wardrobe.com into Open Site to see who they get links from and to my surprise they have a load from Barclays Business Banking.
When I visit the page I can not see the links. But if I search the pages source code for my-wardrobe, there I have it, a link to my-wardrobe.com.
How have they done this? Surely Barclays haven't sold them it? And more so, why are they receiving link juice when you cant even see the link on the Barclays page in question - http://www.barclays.co.uk/BusinessBanking/P1242557952664
Thanks

I might as well as we bank with them for business!
-
This really shows the endless possibilities we all have for link building. I'd have never thought a bank like Barclays would put lots of hidden links on their website just by talking at one of their events.
Pretty amazing stuff!
-
Wonder how many people will contact them about speaking for them as a result of this thread! I'd do it for a link from Barclays that's for sure.
-
Great find there Mat!!
-
It looks like these are given to those who speak as part of the Barclays Entrepeneur Speakers campaign. See here: http://www.barclaysandme.com/Seminars/Entrepreneurspeakers/P1242587029441
Very interesting Seems a little... err, uhmm... Naa.. they wouldn't
-
All I can imagine is that either they bank with barclays and put a fair bit of business their way and have gotten their business manager to speak to the web team, or perhaps someone on the web staff could be taking a few back-handers for links, has been known to happen before.
-
Very very odd. I can't see a reason why they are there at all and the mixture of branded and URL links jars on a website such as that?
-
Some links actually provide 'business services' that you would expect Barclays to have a relationship with but of the other links seem very suspicious - like the food websites.
Even though they're well know brands, the Innocent drinks and Eat Natural links should not really be in a 'Business services' section. It's very unlikely that a visitor would see these links so it must be purely for SEO reasons - even though these websites have a much lower authority than Barclays (I doubt it is for their benefit).
-
So if I was being charitable, I'd say that's a CMS issue - possibly there's a library of links somewhere internally which have been tagged up incorrectly, and this is a dynamic list which is just pulling back everything tagged up accordingly.
-
I thought that but as Dan Price mentions some sites are suspect on there.
-
Not quite sure how a site like http://www.kiboshpiperepair.com/ have got on there either! It is very very interesting
-
My-wardrobe.com is a big one. They were featured on CNN international in their show about bosses. From what I saw on the show they did a lot of charity work with young entrepreneurs in a program sponsored by Barcleys... that may be how they got the link.
As they say, networking is key. I hope this helps.
-
Ah yeah. How have they done that?
-
You can see it if you click the "+ Explore The Site" link, which expands to give several lists of links. The last column "Business Services" looks ... interesting ...

WEbsite cannot be crawled
I have received the following message from MOZ on a few of our websites now Our crawler was not able to access the robots.txt file on your site. This often occurs because of a server error from the robots.txt. Although this may have been caused by a temporary outage, we recommend making sure your robots.txt file is accessible and that your network and server are working correctly. Typically errors like this should be investigated and fixed by the site webmaster. I have spoken with our webmaster and they have advised the below: The Robots.txt file is definitely there on all pages and Google is able to crawl for these files. Moz however is having some difficulty with finding the files when there is a particular redirect in place. For example, the page currently redirects from threecounties.co.uk/ to https://www.threecounties.co.uk/ and when this happens, the Moz crawler cannot find the robots.txt on the first URL and this generates the reports you have been receiving. From what I understand, this is a flaw with the Moz software and not something that we could fix form our end. _Going forward, something we could do is remove these rewrite rules to www., but these are useful redirects and removing them would likely have SEO implications. _ Has anyone else had this issue and is there anything we can do to rectify, or should we leave as is?

SEO impact of redirecting high ranking mirror site to the main website
During SEO audit for a client I noticed that they had over a dozen duplicate websites that are carbon copies of the main website. This was done via CMS platform and DNS. One of the mirror sites has about 400 indexed pages and has Moz DA of 42 and 137k External Equity-Passing Links. Full metrics comparison is attached. I originally planned on doing rel="canonical" on the mirror site but the CMS vendor never even heard of it and is refusing to implement it in the header. My only other option is doing one to one 301 redirects. Since the mirror site ranks well, even competes with main domain for some positions on the 1st page of SERP, what will be the impact after the redirects? Is doing 301's still the best option? Thanks! Page Authority is the same on every page of my site
I'm analyzing a site and the page authority is the exact same for every page in the site. How can this be since the page authority is supposed to be unique to each page?

Half of my backlinks just disappeared!
I was just starting to feel like I was getting traction and all of a sudden half of our external backlinks just disappeared! Over the past 4 months we've taken our total external links from about 2500 to 6500 and with the lastest report, we seem to have lost more than half and are now around 2100. Our domain authority has dropped accordingly too. I realize that backlinks aren't forever but what in the heck could cause you to loose over 4000 in a one month period? eK9w

What analysis exists for Out Bound Links (OBL) from your site
Hi Maybe I am missing this but I can''t seem to see it. I am doing some analysis on a client's site and want to get a csv list of links from the client's site to external sites. So what I am looking for is a list of Out Bound Links (OBL) from the client's site. I want to run these past a black list / bad link neighborhood checking script I have. This would actually be a nice feature in SEO Moz Pro, unless it actually already does and I am just missing it or not setting filters correctly. Thanks Trevor

Fetch googlebot for sites you don't own?
I've used the "fetch as googlebot" tool in Google webmaster tools to submit links from my site, but I was wondering if there was any type of tool or submission process like this for submitting links from other sites that you do not own? The reason I ask is, I worked for several months to get a website to accept my link as part of their dealer locator tool. The link to my site was published a few months ago, however I don't think google has found it and the reason could be because you have to type in your zip code to get the link to appear. This is the website that I am referencing: http://www.ranchhand.com/dealers.php?zip=78070&radius=20 (my website is www.rangeroffroad.com) Is there any way for Google to index the link? Any ideas?
