What are the most Important Local Business Directories for SEO
-
Thanks for any help on this,
I wanted to know what are the most Important Local Business Directories for SEO? I have come a crossed a few sites that list tons of directories, but I wanted to know if anyone here is a top list.
Also can it hurt to be on to many?

Hey Amber,
Great info on this, yeah I would like to focus on the quality of their listing. Thanks for the help on this.

Hi Robert,
I am going to give you a few resources I turned to when I first began citation building.
http://getlisted.org/resources/local_search_ecosystem.pdf
http://getlisted.org/resources/local-citations-by-category.aspx
http://getlisted.org/resources/local-citations-by-city.aspx
http://www.seomoz.org/directories/local
From these I create a "Top List" based on my client and their situation.
Also, I think once you dive in to this process you will find your focus shifts from "how many of these can I get my client on?!!!" to making sure the quality of your existing listings and directories is high.
All the Best,
Amber

I would look at a few sources.
Yext.com has free power listings where you can find inconsistancies and new directories to submit your site to.
Getlisted.org has some listings
whitespark has a free and paid tool to help you find some. (They also offer an plan for local citations $5 each)
SEOmoz also has a chart of directories: http://www.seomoz.org/directories
Keep in mind to only submit to relevant categories.

Hi Robert,
GetListed.org is probably the best. It not only tells you which directories to get listed in, it also verifies when your business has been listed.
The directories on GetListed.org are great, then any other industry specific or local business directories you can get into will make complete sense to Google when crawling. It starts to become a sketchy area when you start adding your website to random or generic directories... some are OK, you just don't want to over do it in the generic ones.
Hope this helps.
Mike

Why would a business want to cap their Adwords budget?
If a business has an unlimited supply of product and an unlimited capacity to distribute that product why would they want to limit their Adwords campaign budget? If your Cost per Acquisition for a conversion is lower than the Customer Lifetime Value for any given keyword bid, why would you want to prevent your campaign from reaching as many people as possible? Thanks in advance Danny

Has anyone tried Captora? Curious about people's thoughts on potential benefits and risks for SEO.
We talked to a vendor called Captora today and I'm curious if anyone else has tried them. It seems like it's too good to be true and could lead to issues should Google get wise to this tactic. So what are people's thoughts? watch?v=SVSCPrcXXDQ

Internationalization without losing SEO
Hi everyone ! For years we've had our e-commerce site targeting only our Brazilian customers, thus our domain name was domain.com.br . We've built a very strong AdWords account with the URLs within this domain and we've got a considerable SERP positioning as well. Now we've also bought the domain.com (without the country extension ".br"), to target international clients. Our plan is to build the site using the following structure: domain.com/en-US/

domain.com/es-ES/
domain.com/en-GB/ and also domain.com/pt-BR/ (for our brazilian audience). We thing that just dropping off the original domain.com.br and redirecting everything to domain.com/pt-BR/ would not be a good move, as we would need to redo all our AdWords campaigns (the domain is different) and would lose all our reputation/quality score. In terms of SEO I don't know how Google would react with the redirects (if we would keep the quality or not). So our plan is to keep both the domain.com.br and domain.com/pt-BR/ working simultaneously, but then there's the problem of duplicate content. Should we use the "canonical" tag and if so, where should we say the original content is? Has anyone been through this before, ie. expanding a country-level domain to a .com with multiple languages, but keeping the reputation gained by the original language. Thanks for any advice!! P.S. - We've also though about setting up the new structure with subdomains such as en.domain.com , es.domain.com, fr.domain.com, but we though it would work better using subdirectories. Any thoughts on this is also very welcomed.0 -
Will PPC elsewhere on my domain help my organic SEO?
I have an e-commerce site with a small product line which an on-going organic SEO campaign. As a side project, I'm planning on doing some PPC testing with a highly converting product squeeze page, which I'll run Google ads to gain traffic. (this is PPC only and for this page I am not concerned with organic SEO traffic - although of course the page itself will be fully optimized). I am wondering whether to run this squeeze page on a sub-domain or sub-directory of the existing site, OR to host it on a completely fresh domain? I would like to know if as side-effect my existing Website benefit 'organically' from some of the PPC traffic, helping with it's domain authority, etc.,? or could this possibly do any harm? p.s. Bear in mind this is not going to be a page visible on the on the main site itself, it's a separate entity for PPC. Would be great to have some expert Moz eyes on this and opinions. Thanks!

Preparation of website before Submitting to Paid Directories?
I am reading that submitting to premium directories is a good way to get a jumpstart on SEO rankings. I have noticed that most of the good ones take a while in order to be approved and that many do not guarantee a listing, even if you pay $299 (Yahoo). So my question is, Do directories turn you away if you have bad web page optimization on your website? Because if they do then I definitely need work done there first. Any advice on getting accepted into the premium directories the first time? Boo

Adwords Quality Score and On-Page SEO
I'm trying to convince a large, multinational company that is very resistant to change, into making my on-page SEO changes. Compounding this resistance is the fact that the Analytics, SEO, PPC, and web dev departments are all under different people and they don't communicate very well. So, in order to get them to work together, I've decided to appeal to the places where they are sensitive; e.g., the PPC department where they surely have the desire to be more efficient with their budget. To appeal to this sensitivity, and with my goal of getting on-page changes done to help the SEO dept, I'm considering making the argument that my on-page changes will raise their quality score which will in turn lower the amount they are spending on PPC. Basically, is this a fair argument? Do you have an evidence to back this up? Best in the Midwest, Phil p.s. Hi, Joanna 😉
