Referral exclusion not working with GTM?
-
Hi, how are you?
I have my website with Google Tag Manager implemented. Google Analytics is one of the tags I have configured. The problem is that Referral exclusions aren't working for me. I excluded 3 domains, and I keep seeing them in my Referral Traffic report.
Any idea why this could be happening?Best wishes,
Ariel -
So good to hear!
-
Fixed it.
Seems that the IT guys left some old ga.js tracking codes that were activated in some transactions. When you have mixed tracking codes between analytics.js and ga.js this kind of pathological behaviors happen.
Thanks!
-
Not yet. Still trying different possible causes. Hopefully I'll have some results in the next few days.
-
Did this ever get resolved?
-
Nope, still trying to contact Google to fix this issue.
-
Did you figure this out?
-
Yeah, I've seen that article. The problem is that I don't have acceso to the other domain, and that what I did is exactly what it says in the last step, that's why I'm really lost!
I just contacted some people in Google to see if they can check what's going on.
-
I don't see anything wrong there ... I wonder if something like this would help you? I've never done it myself, but this article might be worth checking out: http://www.lunametrics.com/blog/2013/12/24/cross-domain-tracking-tag-manager/#sr=g&m=o&cp=or&ct=-tmc&st=(opu qspwjefe)&ts=1420936709

There's no way a user can come from those subdomains without passing from my site first. The path you give as an example is accurate.
Analytics is being tracked threw a tag in Google Tag Manager. You can see the configuration of the tag in http://imgur.com/Pqi3Gt5. Can you find anything wrong?
-
Ah, that makes more sense. Is there any way that traffic could be coming from those domains without having gone to your site first? Can you give me an instance of a path a user might take?
Example: User goes to product page on shop.domain.com, checks out, is referred to na.otherdomain.com, and comes back to shop.domain.com.
I am trying to see if there is another issue in the path of the user.
Also, can you share the tag you are using on your site for GA?
-
Yes, but those subdomains aren't from my website, they are from the website of payment gateway from where my visits return to my website after paying.
-
In your attachments, the screen grabs referenced two subdomains, one starting with eu and one with na.
-
I'm sorry, what subdomains are you talking about?
-
Are these subdomains on the same tracking code as the root domain?
I can't find a live instance of pages on these subdomains, can you give us examples of the tracking code on one page of each subdomain and the main domain (the one being tracked)?
-
Any ideas why this isn't working?
-
Yes, that's what I did, please check the tho images I attached, one of them (http://imgur.com/IrzKXiY) is a screenshot of the Referral Exclusion in the admin section.
-
With the new version of Google Analytics and GTM, you no longer code referral exclusions into the ga.js, instead you should be excluding them in the admin section.

If website users don't accept GDPR cookie consent, does that prevent GA-GTM from tracking pageviews and any traffic from that user that would cause significant traffic decreases?
I've been doing a lot research on GDPR impact and implementation with GTM-GA for clients, but it's been 12 months since GDPR has gone live I haven't found anything on how GA traffic has been impacted if users don't accept cookie consent. However, I'm personally seeing GA accounts taking huge losses in traffic since implementing GDPR cookie solutions (because GTM/GA tags aren't firing until cookies are accepted). Is it common for websites to see significant decreases in traffic due to too many users not accepting cookie consent? Are there alternative solutions to avoid traffic loss like that and still maintain GDPR compliance? It seems to me that the industry underestimated how many people won't accept cookie consent. Most of the documentation and articles around GDPR's start (May 2018) didn't foresee or cover that aspect properly, everything seems to be technically focused with the assumption that if implemented properly most people would accept cookie consent, but I'm personally not seeing that trend and it's destroying GA data (lost traffic, minimal source attribution, inaccurate behavior data, etc). Thanks.

GTM: Transaction value without tax as variable
Hi Mozzers, I'm trying to create a GTM variable for transaction value without tax. There is no datalayer field for this at the moment. e.g. I only have these fields in the datalayer: Revenue (€19.99) Tax (€3.47) Price (€19.99) No field with the price without tax. Is there a way to create a variable? Is it possible to work with a specific function? Or is it standard to implement an extra field in the datalayer? Many thanks,

Hi Mozzers, I'm having some troubles with implementing a GTM variable for one of my clients. I need to have a variable which takes out the quantity of products. Attached you can find a screen shot of the datalayer push. What's the path I need to setup in order to create a variable for the quantity? Many thanks!

Need advice on setting up primary domain and shopify site analytics to work best together
Hello, I have a client that I have been working on their primary site for the last year or so. In the last month they decided to have one of their internal employees setup a small shopify store. Now they are asking for the analytics tracking codes for it. My question for you is what would be the best way for me to set that up? variables: primary domain and shopify domain, google and bing analytics Have been looking at how cross domain tracking works (https://support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/6106951), and the instructions for setting up ecommerce in analytics for shopify (https://help.shopify.com/manual/reports-and-analytics/google-analytics/google-analytics-setup). But am still not 100% which route would be the best, any input would be greatly appreciated! thank you, Dustin

Google Analytics Real Time Not Working! :(
Hello Everyone, Today, the real time feature in my google analytics stopped working. I am able to see that traffic is visiting my site, but not in real time. The real time count is usually at 0. But, there are some instances where real time will come back online, but there will be only 1 unique visitor. At any given time, our website usually has 20 visitors or so..Has anyone encountered this issue? Where should i start looking for fixes? What are the possible problems? Thanks!

Will 301 redirects (Same Domain) show as referral traffic in Analytics?
For an eCommerce site we have 301'd legacy product pages to new product pages. Is all that traffic going to show up as referral traffic from our own domain in Google Analytics? If so, is there any way to preserve original source/medium info or will all the source/medium info be our own domain since there is a 301 redirect?

How to measure number of visits from Google News coming from Google Universal Search (NOT referral coming directly coming from news.google.com) with google analyitcs
I'm running a news site, and I have a problem of accuratly measuring which traffic is REALLY coming from google news. I analyzed a lot of individual articles and I come to the conclusion, that the visits, that come from the google news section in the universal search results are counted as "normal" search engine traffic in google analytics. So if you do a Google search for a topic that includes links from Google news, you don't get an accurate referral count. As an example, if you do a search for "eBay", incorporated into the page 1 search results you may also see Google news results as well.

If someone clicks on that Google news link that appears in Google search, it shows up in Google analytics as a referral from Google search, when it was actually from a Google news referral. I was already checking google analytics and google news help forums and searched SEO blogs for this. But I wasn't able to find a working solution. Can anybody help me out with this problem? Thanks so much, Matthias0
