Geo targeting option in GWT
-
eCommerce site rendering their services globally but primary market is India. Below approximate traffic coming for countries
- India - 50%
- USA & Canda -20%
- Europe -20%
- Rest of the world - 10%
We are not in a position to go for country specific TLD. What would be the appropriate option to be selected in Google Webmaster tools from the following?
- Enable Geo-targetting and select "India"
- Enable Geo targeting and select "Unlisted"
- Disable Geo targeting (uncheck checkbox)
Please note that the site runs on Shopify hence server located in Canada and there are no plans to shift the server or platform.
-
Hmm Riyaz, check what sources, locations, folders, etc. are changing and losing traffic over time. Losing traffic significantly because of changing the server settings is highly unlikely. It's probably caused by something else or a normal flow.
-
I thought if Geo target not set then Google would set it based on the Server location and other signals. BTW i disable the geo target few days ago from "UNLISTED" and i am seeing drop is traffic already.
-
Hi Martijn,
I don't have content in multiple languages. So basically I would have to leave the checkbox UNCHECKED like attached image.
-
Thanks for response.
My current setting is Unlisted.
Regards
-
Hi,
For now I would leave it unchecked so you're disabling the GEO selection. Do you have the content available in multiple languages as well? If so, you could look into using the HREF Lang tags to make sure your content is ranking in the appropriate language/country.
Martijn.

Hi Riyaz,
If you're targeting people in more than one country, you should not set a geographic target. BTW what is the current setting??
Thanks

Unsolved Has anyone noticed the Google quote request response rate never changes?
We respond to almost 100% of our quote requests, yet every quote email that comes in from Google shows a 27% response rate and it never changes. Has anyone else seen this or have any insight into it?

Local Recreational Marijuana Dispensaries Disappearing from Google Maps when Plurals used.
This is the second time I have posted this question and never got a satisfactory result. I have an SEO client in Tacoma Wa and when you type (Dispensaries Near Tacoma they are in the Top 3 snack pack and the Google maps shows 20 other similar businesses. However, when you search (Dispensary Near Tacoma) only 3 or 5 recreational marijuana shops show up and my client disappears. Someone earlier suggested it could be because of the categories selection, but that can't affect ALL the other shops and like I said it happens in other cities. for example Dispensary Near Olympia vs Dispensaries Near Olympia. I have the full write up and pictures and diagrams on my blog. Please HELP! This could affect your future clients also. https://isenselogic.com/local-business-disappearing-on-google-maps-when-plurals-used/

Seasonal Setting Options for Google My Business
Hi there, Not sure if anyone will have any insight but I have a seasonal business that I am closed for from September to March. I don't want to mark my business as "permanently closed" through Google My Business as I don't want my customers to think I've gone out of business. I've seen a few times through forums that you can change your business to temporarily closed, but I can't find the specifics on how to do this. Any insight, suggestion or resources would be great! Thanks!

Is there any value in MapQuest?
Hi Moz Community! Is it worth keeping business information up to date on the MapQuest platform? It seems that MapQuest popularity is rapidly declining, but there aren't many articles or statistics on it's current user base, nor integrations. Is it still relevant? Would love to hear thoughts on this topic!

Duplicate central index listing
Hello Moz community I have a duplicate listing in Central Index (GB) and all communication channels seem unresponsive. I have emailed support and general sales. I even tried contacting them on their facebook account. I am stumped as to how I can get this duplicate listing removed as I have no control over it and the support is non-existent. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

No Location option in Incognito Search Settings
I was checking on a client ranking and went to Incognito in Chrome for the search. I went to search settings to set the location and thought I had done something wrong. I closed and went back to search settings and still no location setting. See attached. Interestingly, when I went to my signed in Chrome and set the location and then went to incognito and went to search settings, then location showed up for me. This also begs a question about why Google has this where you must be signed in to set a location in Incognito mode. Thanks for any input you have, Robert G1lS9EK.png cRRlULo.png

Targeting both Dutch countries .NL & .BE --> 2 ccTLD's using rel-alternate or just one TLD?
We want to target both Dutch countries .NL & .BE (Belgium & Netherlands).
Local Listings | | Brainlane
Should we go for the 2 ccTLD's using rel-alternate, or go for one TLD, .EU or similar? We currently have an SEO project going on where DNS.be & DNS.nl are equally important. Currently we are using the rel-alternate meta data. The .be website is doing fantastic, the .nl one seems stagnant and not really getting to target. For a similar project, we are now wondering whether we should go for the same approach, or just pick one TLD (.EU or similar). Note: we cannot create content that is regionally specific, since the content is just what it is and cannot be altered.0 -
Bright Local - Citation Burst. Winner or Loser?
Bright Local have a package called "Citation Burst." This looks great but, we all know directory submissions can have an extremely negative impact. Has anyone used Bright Local for Citation Burst, please let me know? Thanks Gary
