Unsolved DA dropping after spam attack
-
Hello. Our DA has dropped from 40 to 28. Why does moz take into account clear spam links. Not all links are created by website owners. Popular websites also see a lot of unknown spam linking. Any solutions to over-ride these issues? It seems very futile to see the DA dropping without any apparent reason or help towards actionable data.

Hello,
It can be frustrating to see a significant drop in Domain Authority (DA), especially when it seems linked to factors beyond your control, such as spam links. While Moz's DA metric aims to provide a general gauge of a site's potential ranking ability, it can be influenced by various factors, including spam links. The same issue occurred on this site too click here to visit the website. Here’s why this might be happening and what you can do to address it:
Why DA Might Drop Due to Spam Links:
-
Spam Links Impact: Moz's algorithm takes into account the quality of inbound links. If your site has recently acquired a number of low-quality or spam links, it can negatively impact your DA.
-
Moz Algorithm Updates: Moz periodically updates its index and the algorithm used to calculate DA. Changes in these updates can affect your DA score.
-
Link Profile Evaluation: Moz’s system might detect new spammy or low-quality links, which could lead to a decrease in your DA.
Steps to Address Spam Links and Improve DA:
-
Monitor and Audit Your Backlinks:
- Regularly use tools like Moz, Ahrefs, or Google Search Console to monitor your backlink profile.
- Identify any new, suspicious, or spammy links that could be affecting your DA.
-
Disavow Spammy Links:
- Use Google’s Disavow Tool to tell Google to ignore certain backlinks to your site. Although this doesn’t directly affect Moz’s DA calculation, it can help improve your overall SEO and indirectly benefit your DA.
- Create a disavow file listing the URLs or domains you want Google to ignore and submit it through Google Search Console.
-
Request Link Removal:
- Reach out to webmasters of the sites hosting spammy links and request removal. While this can be time-consuming, it may help in reducing the number of low-quality links.
-
Improve Your Link Profile:
- Focus on acquiring high-quality, authoritative backlinks. Engage in guest posting, build relationships with influencers, and create link-worthy content.
- Ensure your content is shareable and valuable, which naturally attracts high-quality links.
-
Use Moz’s Spam Score Tool:
- Moz provides a Spam Score tool that can help you identify potentially harmful links. Use this tool to get insights into which links might be causing problems and prioritize addressing those.
-
Regular Content Updates:
- Continuously update and improve your website’s content. High-quality, relevant content attracts better links and improves user engagement, which can positively impact your DA.
-
Engage in Legitimate SEO Practices:
- Avoid black-hat SEO techniques and focus on legitimate methods like proper on-page optimization, social media engagement, and regular content updates.
Conclusion
While it's disheartening to see a drop in DA due to factors like spam links, taking proactive steps to monitor, manage, and improve your backlink profile can help mitigate these effects. Focus on building a robust, high-quality link profile, regularly auditing your backlinks, and using tools like Google’s Disavow Tool to manage unwanted links. Over time, these efforts can help stabilize and improve your Domain Authority.

If my website, which specializes in rental services near Anguilla beaches near cruise port, has recently fallen victim to a spam attack, it’s essential to act quickly to resolve the issue. Just as ensuring a seamless experience for guests exploring beautiful beaches requires careful planning and attention to detail, effectively managing a spam attack demands a strategic approach. Spam attacks can damage my website’s reputation, disrupt its functionality, and negatively impact the visibility of our rental services. What immediate steps should I take to address this situation and protect the integrity of my website? I’m looking for expert advice on how to navigate this challenge and restore my site’s performance.

@Skites2 This reason is common in the field of SEO backlinks, but what to do to prevent is try to go to every spam link and delink your site from it, if quantity of these spam links are not very high. other than that still google hasn't able to identify spam links and prevent sites from dropping your DA. Focus on getting high authority links instead to get back your DA.
Similar case happened to this site https://liaiseplatform.com/ and they lost all their DA rating, they had to go manually to every site to delink from them

Amount of Pages Crawled Dropped Significantly
I am just wondering if something changed with the SEOMoz crawler. I was always getting 10,000 or near 10,000 pages crawled. After the last two crawls I am ending up around 2500 pages. Has anything changed that I would need to look at it see if I am blocking the crawler or something else?

DA or PA for link building strenght
Hello, We're doing link building for nlpca(dot)com with Open Site Explorer. 90% of the sites found that we're targeting have NLP resource sections that will probably list our site because we are an authority. My Excel Spreadsheet has the following values: Backlink Holder Site Name Site URL Site Type Tactic PA Ease (1-5) Estimated Value (1-5) Priority (Ease x Est. Value) Contact Info -- I'm only interested in strong sites - sites that will be around for the long haul, and I'm stopping aquiring sites that their resource section has a PA lower than 20. Should I be incorporating DA in some way as well? What other feedback do you have for me?
