Instability on the server - punishment in Google?
-
My site has about 50k pages indexed in Google. We are well respected, and we believe our stories add much value to the user. However, we are having serious problems with my hosting service and the site is unavailable for more than 15 hours.
Unfortunately we also have no provision for him to return to work. I wonder if this kind of instability can cause some punishment on Google, if so, I wonder if there is anything we can do to tell Google that we are aware and working to resolve the problem.

I still don't think you will be harmed by Google. Keri posted a good link below regarding a down website. You should give it a read. I did.

Hi Clovis,
This recent YouMoz post has some recommendations of what to do when your site is down. Not sure if you'll be able to use them, but it's worth a read. Best of luck!

Thanks, for you attention!

I don't understand when you say Unfortunately wealso have no provision for him to return to work.
I'm sorry, I'm Brazilian, don't speak english very well.
I wanted to say that time is not a prediction for the site to return to work. We have a backup but it is very old, 3 months ago. This could also be harmful?

Sounds like a tough situation. Once your site gets back online, visit your Google Webmaster tools to see what they are saying in there. You might be able to reply with a message telling them what happened.
As long as you can get your site back online, you might only see a drop (if any) for a few days.
Good luck!

You state:** However, we are having serious problems with my hosting service and the site is unavailable for more than 15 hours.**
Do you have a plan to have the site back up shortly? Next few days even?
** I wonder if this kind of instability can cause some punishment on Google**
Assuming it is not a regular occurrence and the site will be back up in the next day or two even, I do not believe it will be a problem with Google. One thing you could do as soon as it is back up is request to have it reindexed in GWMT. That just gets anything that may have been missed addressed.
I don't understand when you say **Unfortunately we also have no provision for him to return to work. **
Are you meaning the server or an employee who in some way has caused the problem? Again, everything will center around your timetable with getting the site back up. If you can fill in some of the details it will help mozzers in assisting you.

I have 100+ Landing Pages I use for PPC... Does Google see this as a blog farm?
I am currently using about 50-100 domains for geotargeted landing pages for my PPC campaigns. All these pages basically have the same content, I believe are hosted on a single unique ip address and all have links back to my main url. I am not using these pages for SEO at all, as I know they will never achieve any significant SEO value. They are simply designed to generate a higher conversion rate for my PPC campaigns, because they are state and city domains. My question is, does google see this as a blog/link farm, and if so, what should I do about it? I don't want to lose any potential rankings they may be giving my site, if any at all, but if they are hurting my main urls SEO performance, then I want to know what I should do about it. any advice would be much appreciated!

Google Answer Box Optimization?
Anyone have any luck in optimizing your site to show up in the Google Answer Boxes that popup for informational queries? (for example: "what is seo?") I've read many of the articles that have been written on the subject, and have been able to show up for many queries by a) ranking high organically, b) placing the question at the top of the page, and then answering it succinctly. However, for one term a competitor continues to show up in the answer box instead of us, despite their site ranking lower organically in the search results. Anyone have any experience/advice for replacing a competitor in the Answer Box? Thanks!

How the heck is this guy ranking on top of Google for everything?
Hey everyone, how is the website below ranking so high for everything with his website? His link profile is spam junk, he uses forums and hides backlinks in smiles and quotes. Plus the guy even seems to be hitting all the competition websites with bad backlinks etc. It seems he is jus using automated tools to build tons of backlinks. Why isn't Google picking this site up and doing something about it? Search google for "advanced warfare hacks" he shows up on top. Same for "titanfall hacks" Same for "ghosts hacks" Check his link profile and sneaky ways, his main site is hackerbot [dot] net

Now i'm doing everything my self to recover, so i was thinking getting a new hosting, duplicate the website with a same content (i have original quality content) and 301 my old domain to new one? How long can it last with Google? Can penalties be passed via 301 redirects ? Looking forward to your help.

Google Sitemaps & punishment for bad URLS?
Hoping y'all have some input here. This is along story, but I'll boil it down: Site X bought the url of Site Y. 301 redirects were added to direct traffic (and help transfer linkjuice) from urls in Site X to relevant urls in Site Y, but 2 days before a "change of address" notice was submitted in Google Webmaster Tools, an auto-generating sitemap somehow applied urls from Site Y to the sitemap of Site X, so essentially the sitemap contained urls that were not the url of Site X. Is there any documentation out there that Google would punish Site X for having essentially unrelated urls in its sitemap by downgrading organic search rankings because it may view that mistake as black hat (or otherwise evil) tactics? I suspect this because the site continues to rank well organically in Yahoo & Bing, yet is nonexistent on Google suddenly. Thoughts?

Impressions in Google SERP has declined from 3500 to 1600 after 5-25-2012\. Is it Penguin?
It's about the website http://www.apartments-houseboats-amsterdam.com/ The visitors had declined from 270 to 150 visitors per day. Is this caused by the Google update Penguin? If so what can I do to solve the problem? Thank you for your time and effort,
