Why has SEOmoz added G+ code to multiple pages?
-
Hi,
If you look at SEOmoz's Blog pages, you'll see they have added the G+ rel="publisher" code.
On http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1708844 Google says:
"A
rel="publisher"
link from the main page of your website to your Google+ page."Is there any benefit to putting this code into the sites template (adding it to every page of the site) when it could be added to just the homepage?
Not a criticism, just curious to know how I should implement the code on my own site (concerned that adding it to the site template is a kind-of link out on every page of my site)
Cheers

There is no benefit to having it on every page. In talking with our Google rep they stated they just needed on our site/homepage but since sometimes they don't know what they need, it was placed on every page via our CMS. At this point we haven't seen any negative effects from it but we might try placing it only on the homepage to see if that does anything.

I doubt a single string is going to add too much overhead. Im not sure how they have designed their CMS but it may just be a case of having it everywhere is easier to implement than page specific. The other thing may just be making sure google has an easy time associating sub-page content with the author/publisher without having to look up the main page. Im simply guessing here though, Im sure a mozzer will come along and give you a more definitive answer once they see your question.

Thanks Kris - but it is adding unneccessary code to the page? and slowing site speed? (although marginally)

can't speak to the moz staff but meta tags aren't treated as links. neither are rel tags within an <a>tag. So no risk to "leaking link juice from ever page". :-)</a>

Invite a Facebook user to Like a Company Page
Hi All, Was looking at our Facebook company page last night and was going through our recent posts and noticed that the individuals that liked our posts had an "Invite" button next to their name. I've been testing this and is it true that I can only send an Invite to like my company page if I'm actually friends with the user? The "Invite" button is there for every individual that has liked a post on our page, but I've only had success sending the invite to people I'm connected with. The frustrating thing about this is that the button changes to "Invited" regardless of whether or not they have actually received the invite.

SEO & Social | More SEO effect by liking the page URL rather than the Facebook Page?
SEOMoz Gurus, I am wondering what our best implementation strategy shoul dbe around linking up the Facebook Like button on our pages. Essentially there are two options: A) Linking the button directly to the Facebook Page of the web site so every Like is actually converting into a Facebook "Fan" which can be messaged going forward through our Facebook page. B) Having them like the actual URL which might be more beneficial from an SEO and viral perspective as now a link to the actual URL gets shared on the Liker's facebook wall and it should also be easier to use that lIke for Google & Co. as it's tied to the actual URL not a random Facebook page given that search engines already convert those signals. Both approaches obviously have their benefits. Are there any common guidelines on what is a better approach to take from a pure SEO perspective? Thanks /Thomas

Google Places Pages and social icons
I have a business that works in many cities across Texas. Our home base is in Austin and i have a Google Places page set up for Austin. I have a page dedicated to each major city in Texas talking about clients we've worked with in each city, etc.. I am placing social icons on each page and Google Places is one of the Icons and i was concerned that if Google sees a link to our Austin places page on our Houston page that the Houston page might be considered less relevant for a Houston search being as Google takes note of addresses on pages to consider relevance. Will my page suffer in the serps if i link to our Austin local page on our other city pages in the google places icon? Second question: What are the best social icons to put on my web pages for the best traffic? Take care,
