I found some really good resources on here regarding how to optimize for product pages, however I have one question.

We carry about 20 different products lines. EX: Cold Saws, Band Saws, Press Brakes etc. For the cold saws product line we have Manual Cold Saws and Automatic Cold Saws. Same for Band Saws.

Since the products are very similar and people are technically only search for manual cold saws, manual coldsaws, manual cold saw machines etc. Each product line has between 10 and 50 machines.

How do we optimize each product page for 1 keyword phrase.? Can I have about 5 manual cold saw pages target the same keyword phrase or does each page have to be targeting completely different key phrases?  like, manual coldsaws, manual cold saws, affordable manual coldsaws, etc.

Yes it will be eCommerce. We want people to come to that page or the parent category page to find what they need and either request a quote or purchase online. Can you explain long tailed search as i am not to familiar with that.

Is this an e commerce site?

What are you trying to get visitors to do? Come to the site, the specific page, make an online purchase, submit for an online or hard copy catalog.  Its hard to give you the correct answer with out knowing more about  how  you are using your website.

Do you actually need to have each and every page perfectly optimized for search.... what about long tailed search?

This makes a lot of sense. So since we have about 20 manual cold saws, how do I optimized for the 20 manual cold saw pages, if there is not many other search recommendations for that key phrase. That is not even the most important key phrase for us, it was just an example, but what if that is the situation but the exact and phrase search volume is very high. What else do I do to get around optimized multiple pages for that same phrase? Or do I not optimize that page.

**How do we optimize each product page for 1 keyword phrase.? **

You need to be very careful when attempting to optimize pages for such similar keywords. "manual coldsaws", "manual cold saws" and "affordable manual cold saws" would likely best be presented as a single page optimized for "manual cold saws".

I tried a search for "manual coldsaws" and Google showed results for "manual cold sores" automatically with the option to click a link to search for "manual coldsaws". It does not seem worthwhile to specifically create a page for this uncommon misspelling.

I recognize you are trying to target all the various keyword combinations a user may enter as a search query. My recommendation would be to make a single, high quality page which focuses the target keyword but may include content on slight variations as you feel necessary. The content for a single, high quality web page costs hundreds of dollars to create. A single infographic may cost thousands of dollars. Content is expensive! I would suggest not wasting it on variations which do not offer a lot of value to users.

If you use this idea, you can use anchors and headers to divide the page into sections. Wikipedia does this very well. The main page can focus "manual cold saws" but you can have a section on "best quality" and another section on "most affordable".

It sounds like the sole reason you are considering this method is to adjust for search engines. This is where I fall back to the saying you have heard many times...design your site for people, not search engines.

PS. I checked the traffic for "manual cold saws" and was unable to see any organic traffic numbers for that query. I would suggest it is not a keyword worth spending any extra time on for page variations.

              Hi HFranz,

I have found its good to have each item set up individually.  That way you do not have multiple pages fighting over the same search results.

Improving SEO for an e-commerce page with 1 product page

                keywords blog post e-commerce

I'm trying to improve the SEO for an e-commerce store that I'm working for that sells custom car air fresheners where you select the shape of the item and then upload the photo. The site has been around for almost 10 years so has authority in the field and ranks number one for custom car air fresheners and other related high-traffic keywords. However, there is no blog, no social media and has 8 total pages: landing page, FAQ, contact, guidelines, shape/product (page that starts the ordering process with little text), scents, terms, and samples.
I'm struggling with how we rank higher for specific keywords that we are not number 1 with ok traffic (such as dog air freshener, custom air freshener for car with picture, custom photo car air freshener) and not affect the current keywords that we are ranking number one for. In addition, how do we rank higher for other keywords, if we don't have that many pages like a blog to create content? I was thinking of creating a blog to target more keywords, but I don't think there is enough relevant content to make. And I feel Google would find a blog about "top gifts for dad" or "top gifts for the holidays" not relevant. I was also thinking of adding more text to the shapes/product page which could be tailored towards a keyword. Maybe I could create another product page that goes into more detail about the air freshener with images, descriptions, and other use cases. On MOZ, the Domain Authority is 18 (really low), so I am thinking about working on getting backlinks from relevant sources with authority to improve our SEO. Or do we not mess with the text on the website since it works and not worry about the other keywords and focus on technical SEO items and backlinks to help with SEO? TLDR: How do you improve SEO for new keywords for an e-commerce business that doesn't have a lot of pages for content without affecting its number 1 ranking on other keywords?

Should the Product Name/Keyword be first in meta description?

I'm writing my meta descriptions for my products. Right now I have it as <product name="">at <company name="">and a brief description.</company></product> However, I was wondering if I put a word in front of the <product name="">such as "Wholesale". So for example</product> Wholesale <product name="">at <company name="">.......</company></product> Is that advisable? Or should the product name always be the first word?

Using roman numbers in Page title

Hi, We are working on a site with lots of Acts and Rules (mostly legal stuff). The Acts are differentiated by Roman numbers like rule-VIII and Form-XX etc. I want to know if I should keep the page title same or change them to English numericals like rule-8 and Form-20 Thanks

Does Using Brand/Company Name in Title on Multiple Pages Cause Cannibalization

I'm trying to rank for brand-name related keywords for a website. Most of the titles on the site include the page topic followed by the brand-name separated by bars or dashes (ex: title= widget | My Brand). Is this creating cannibalization for the brand-related terms? I was wondering if it was better to leave the brand out of the title all together except on a dedicated page.  However, due to the nature of the business I work for there are multiple recognized iterations of the name including acronyms and long-form and short-form versions and creating content for each targeted iteration seems superfluous.

Should I make a blog post or landing page to rank?

Hi, I have some keywords (2-5 words) which I would like to rank for (and use them for AdWords campaigns). Also, I have some great and helpful content for those user queries to share. Now what is the better strategy?: Create a blog post for AdWords and later SEO rankings? Create a landing page for AdWords and later SEO rankings? Would love to here your thoughts and experiences on this issue... Best, Robin

Precise or longer title for service page?

i am a little confused as to how should i create my META TITLE and on page h1 title
for a service page... Say that page offers "web marketing" service... i know or think i know that precise title ranks higher
on the search results but its less appealing Meta title example:
web marketing | company name On page title:
Web marketing Now, the more compelling title would be of-course longer but less focused 1. Do you think i can test it without hurting my positions permanently?
i have query (i see the stats on Google webmaster tools) that
i get 20,000 views monthly but only 1% clicks... 2. how would you build a title for such a page (meta and onpage)? Would really appreciate your professional view Best regards, Sagive SEO.

E-Commerce SEO: Where to start with 4,000+ products?

Hey everyone! Complete SEO novice here. I work as the sole content person for an ecommere website with 4,000+ products. I've been trying for months to come up with some sort of SEO strategy, but I'm drowning. Completely drowning. I've been trying to use on-page analytics here at Moz for certain products that get a lot of margin for us. This worked great for awhile, but I haven't seen much progress. And then I jumped to link building and then I jumped to blogging and social, and now I don't know where to focus. I know each and every one of these is important, but I feel like I'm only giving 10% to each instead of 100%. I'm not getting anywhere. I'm just doggy paddling. I am in desperate need of a starting point. And yes, I've read Moz's beginner guide to SEO. I've researched for hours, but nobody seems to have a good starting point for someone trying to optimize a site with 4,000+ products. WHERE DO I START? Category pages? Low-hanging fruit? I feel like I've tried it all. I need some concrete ecommerce advice. Something that gives me a solid game plan as a one-woman show. Do I go brand by brand? Do I go with products with good margin? Do I stop focusing on individual products and go for category pages? I can't wrap my head around an SEO workflow. I'm really looking for ANY advice that can stop my head from spinning with ecommerce SEO. It's completely overwhelming! Thank you in advance!

How many keywords/key phrases to use on main page

Hi all! I'm a bit new to the SEO process. My question is about keywords. Now, I realize that in a perfect world you would want to target one keyword/key phrase per page - or so I've heard. How many keywords/key phrases should I target for my main page? I'm working on a Dallas real estate firm website. They focus on luxury real estate in Dallas, high rises, ect.. So I was thinking of focusing on "Dallas luxury real estate" for the main page but wasn't sure if I should focus on 2 or 3 other terms for the main page. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
