One of my clients recently asked me if he should use a Wordpress plugin to create backlinks to his website. He mentioned WP-Syndicator as an example.

I just redesigned his website and I'd like to ensure that he gets a bit more traffic than he was before. Should I suggest that he purchase/use a Wordpress backlink plugin? If so does anyone know which is the best one?

Not sure if it's necessary, but here is the website I'm referring to http://intouchhome.com

Awesome answer David. Thanks so much for the advice, I'll steer clear of backlink plugins.

The simple answer is No, you should not use a plugin to build back-links.

There are some great WordPress Plugins out there that help you with tracking your back-links, I suggest the MozLinks one, it's great.  But it monitors your work, it doesn't do it for you.

Much like their brick and mortar your client needs to understand that business online is business, all the same.  You wouldn't trust a script written by a shady company to hire your employees or automate your accounting, you should not take such a route for building your site either.

Automated scripts are a clear violation of the Google Webmaster Guidelines (and the other search engines too) http://goo.gl/bdca8 you can read it on their site.

The other thing is, automation means no control.  You can end up linked to bad neighborhoods like porn and RX sites as well as get de-indexed and not show in the SERPs at all.

What to do?  Put your efforts on building a purpose  for your site.  Provide value in its vertical that is unique and useful.  Build links when you find others that have done the same and ONLY link to sites when you are willing to put your reputation on the line for them, as in a way that is what you are doing.

Want more visitors?  Answer one question.... why?

Why would someone want to visit your site?  Ask it everyday and answer it in a new way and you will have more traffic than your shared hosting plan will allow.

Should backlink URLs include www, https, or both???

My business is located at remotebaba.com, and I am wanting several sites to link to it.
I am only interested in home page at this point, and we are using HTTPS for our site. Which one of these should I have other sites link to (Please provide complete justification):
          remotebaba.com (my root domain)
          www.remotebaba.com
          https://remotebaba.com
https://www.remotebaba.com I really appreciate your help!

          Backlinks and SPAM

I was doing some back link review of competitors and I have noticed that many of our competition have 300+ do follow back links from Justia.com  and an additional 300+ do follow links from law.cornell.edu (they share the same database). The links on Justia are from different pages and they are all going to the root of our competitors site. So the questions are as follows; 1: For the purpose of SEO is this considered SPAM 2: If not SPAM, then does it have a positive effect on the competitions website and should I attempt to emulate for my client. Thanks in advance. -Jeff

Backlinks from domains that are not indexed...

Would you count them as spammy and disavow?

Backlinks from the Same Domain (But Different Pages)

Wayyy back when (in the days of yore) Mr Cutts spelled out in a video that page rank is distributed equally between the external links on the page. If there are two links on a page, each gets passed 50% of the available page rank etc. (Perhaps an oversimplification but bear with me). As a result of this, the company I worked for at the time (this was the dark ages when sidebar homepage links were in vogue) decreed that we would only ever approach a site about a link for a client once, as additional links had little extra SEO Value. Now you could argue that if there are 5 external links, each acquiring 20% of the power, and your site has 2 of those, you are getting 40% of the power, but lets forget the basic math for a minute. I have scoured the web and Mr Cutts' videos and I cannot find the answer to my question: If my site (Site A) has a backlink from SiteB Page 1, and a backlink from SiteB page 2 - does this count as two separate links in the eyes of Google? If the SAME site links out to my site, linking to different pages in different posts, does this give me more SEO benefit? Thanks for your time!

          Hidden Backlinks

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. We have a competitor who appears to be ranking No1 for a competitive search term with a very lame site and above some authoritative sites. He has been here for some time as well. When we check out his back link profile through OSE, Majestic and Ahrefs they show as only 3 backlinks from no PR sites. However, someone pointed out that they could be using a link network that is blocking every crawler apart from Google, Yahoo and BIng. I would like to know if there is a way to confirm this. For instance I know that we can use screaming frog to mimic Googlebot, however, if there a way to reveal the real backlinks to a site like this using any tools. Thanks

          Ways to remove spammy backlinks

Hello everyone, I got hit with an algorithm penalty and need to start removing old backlinks ASAP. Does anyone have any good resources on how best to ask webmasters for removal? Are there any other ways to remove bad back links besides the disavow tool? (An SEO consultant I talked to said that they had a proprietary software that can remove them - is that possible?) Thanks all,

Has anyone seen positive results from using Submiteaze to submit to directories? I know an SEM agency that uses it for clients' link building campaigns, but I don't know if it is worth buying. Are there better alternatives?

I would like to start a link building initiative at my company for a new website, and would like to know if the value of the links built using Submiteaze would be worth the money.
