What is the best way to optimise a site that wants to target one service in multiple locations?
-
Hello! I would like to get some opinions about the best way to optimise a site/pages/URL's for a client that offers one service in multiple locations.
The client has done work in various areas of the UK and wants to be found for these locations. They don't have addresses in these locations.
What would be the best way to set up the pages/URLs for each location? Is there any reason why I can't have, for example, a main Portfolio page which has content about the service and a link to each portfolio in the different locations, e.g. /portfolio/london, /portfolio/hampstead, portfolio/kensington.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Kerry

yes. Your goal is to keep those pages from getting buried in the subdirectories. So based on your service areas, I would go /london, /brighton etc. etc.

Hi Chris, thanks for this. So you would go for e.g. .com/london rather than .com/portfolio/london...... etc?

I would have an umbrella page(homepage), then each location you want to service as a separate page beneath it. However each page has to be unique content. You can have clients you've helped in that area, or any sort of data specific to location. From there I would make sure the targeted location is in the URL, meta description, etc. then I would go after local links.

Keyword Cannibalization vs. Optimizing Site
I am in the process of optimizing our website and I am having a hard time reconciling two best practices I have found on Moz. 1. You should avoid having multiple pages focus on the same keyword because you will lose some control of which result will show. 2. You should identify your core keywords and weave these keywords multiple times (naturally) throughout your site. I have spent months identifying our top 7 keywords and am working through the site now. The first piece of advice keeps giving me pause. Can anyone weigh in with other considerations or advice on how I can reconcile these two strategies. Thank you

Reducing number of site pages?
Hi, I am looking through my site structure and I have a lot of pages left over from the days of article keywords. Probably 7 or 8 years ago, someone sold my husband on article key word pages. I have slowly gotten rid of a lot of them as they have fallen out out of the ranks. I would like to get rid of the rest, probably 5 or 6 pages. Will it hurt my rankings to delete pages and redirect them? My customers really like the simplicity of our site and I want to keep it that way, plus clean up flags that Moz is telling me is a problem. I think its easier to keep less pages top notch than have to worry with a lot of them. Especially since my customers aren't viewing them. Thanks in advance!

Changing posts that target same keyword to target SIMILAR keywords
Hello, I'm new to SEO and until the last year I was not aware that creating content that target same keywords would make Google choose only one to rank better. Can I leave the best page (highest ranked one) as it is and change the rest that target the same keyword to target similar keywords ? Just a simple example: I have two pages targeting "best supplements to muscle gain" Leave the best one targeting that keyword and now I change the content of the other to target "best supplements for muscle size" This is the smartest move or I'm missing something here and will make things worse ? Ex: maybe some of tthose pages with same keyword arent ranking for the keyword I want but are ranking for another one that I dont know. I'm really insecure about making changes and end up getting worse results.. Thank you (sorry for my bad english)

Over Optimisation Penalty
It seems, some of my pages are being hit by over optimisation penalties. Now to figure out how to tone it down. The website is for downloading widgets. It's got many great ranks. The pages are dynamic and so titles, h1 are done via variables. At present the title + H1 are 100% match for the keyword. In addition breadcrumbs home > widgets > big widgets > big blue widgets. All of which being pretty much 100% match for target keyword. Also, in a gallery, say you're viewing "big blue widgets" there are tabs that link to "small blue widgets" and "medium blue widgets". Again using 100% match anchor text. None of this was done really for SEO. More for usability. But it appears it's recently negatively effecting SEO. After having a couple of pages, that were ranked number 1, now way at the back of the top 1,000, with un-targeted pages ranking in their place, though to a lesser rank. I am going to mix up the tag so that it doesn't match the
. I am going to remove the 100% match anchors in the tabs and make them just "small", "medium" and "large".

I don't really want to touch the breadcrumbs, because Google uses those in the results and they make perfect logical sense how they're setup.

What other changes would you suggest, to help prevent these pages being filtered?

Thanks a lot 🙂

Advice needed about site
I would like to get advice about the site http://www.wb-3d.com regarding what we should do to get it highly on Google. This seems to be a tough one as there is not enough content on the site. I would immensly appeciate any suggestion to improve the rankings. Specifically, what we should tweet and update on facebook. Thanks
