Animated Favicon... Good or Bad Idea?
-
I'm about to create a favicon for my company and noticed an animated favicon option. I can't remember a major website using an animated favicon, but I use Chrome, which doesn't support them.
Are animated favicons visible on many browsers? Do they have any impact on SEO? Does anybody use animated favicons? Is it worth my time to create one?

Hi Branden
From what I understand favicons of any kind have no SEO value to them.
Favicons have a benefit from a customer point of view if they save your website to favourites/bookmarks they will then be able to identify your website a little easier through the favicon as they will recognise the branding.
One question that I don't know the answer to is: will the animated favicon slow down page loading time? If it does I would avoid them as this could have a negative effect in terms of customers interaction with your website.
To be honest I'm not sure that it is worth creating an animated version if it is going to take you away from other brand building strategies. Although it could be fun creating them.
Hope this helps.

Just an uninformed opinion. I'd suggest spending that time on something a bit more relevant unless your brand or business has "THE PERFECT" thing that would make such an amazing, stand out animated .gif, otherwise it may just be an unnecessary slice of cheese.

Anyone Willing or Able to Help Out For A Good Cause? Trying to help a very pleasant women and her son who have recently fallen on hard times
Hi all, Thank you for taking the time to read this post. If you are interested in helping out, feel free to direct message me for more information. Earlier this week I received a call from a very pleasant women named Martha. Her son owns a small site dedicated to his work as a pianist (can see the site here). They are having issues gaining traction in Google, they are not tech/search savvy and are looking for SEO help. They really do not have much to spend so partnering with an agency or hiring an SEO is not really an option. The part that is eating me up is the fact that Martha recently lost her husband and that left both of them in a very tough spot emotionally and financially. They are trying to build up visibility for the site with the hopes of finding more work for her son to help support them. Frankly, the site needs a good amount of work. It is a small one-page squarespace website. New pages need to be created, the site needs to be optimized and backlinks need to be acquired. If anyone is willing or able to help, please let me know. I am trying to help them where I can (guidance for how to optimize, they provided me the squarespace login so I may start going in and making changes for them) but unfortunately I do not have the time to give this project the attention that it deserves. Even if it is something as small as throwing a link their way, it would be very much appreciated. It doesn't have to be SEO specific either, if you can help them on social I'm sure that would be appreciated as well. Again, I appreciate you taking the time to read this. If you are interested in helping or just learning more, feel free to message me. Thank you!

Considering Switch to old Domain - Any Bad Karma?
So here is the issue. I am working with a company that used to have a branded domain. Then they split the domain into two separate keyword rich domains and tried to change branding to match the keyword rich domains. This made for a really long brand name that is difficult to actually rank for as it is mostly hi traffic key terms and also created brand confusion because all of the social accounts still operate under the old brand name. We are considering a new brand initiative and going back to the original brand name as it better meets our business objectives (they still get traffic from branded searches under the old brand) and the old branded web domain. My question is if there is any added risk in going back to an old domain that has been forwarded for the past 2 years to the new domain? I know the risks and problems of a domain name change, but I am not as certain about the added complication of moving back to an old domain and essentially reversing the flow of 301's. Any thoughts? Cheers!

Is duplicating video across several sites a bad thing?
Hi, We have a fairly successful YouTube Channel where we create unique and helpful videos that are related to our core business activity. When we create these videos would you consider it a bad thing to not only post them on YouTube but also a couple of the smaller sites such as Metacafe and Dailymotion? Sending to multiple sites would possibly achieve more total views but would this kind of duplication potentially be harmful to the overall success of the video and have a knock on effect when it comes to how it ranks in Google? Thanks for your help.

Good PR Distrobution Services?
Are there press release distribution services that you Mozzers would recommend? I see a lot of, "don't use this service, this service or this service", but I rarely see anything touting good PR release services. Followup Question: Are these services still effective after Penguin? I am being much more careful about anchor text (inserting a lot of branded or phrase match instead of just head terms). Are there other ways to be effective but also cautious when using these services? Thanks for your help!

Video Creation Ideas On A Budget
I am trying to help a friend add quality content to their site. It's been determined that video is a great medium for much of it. However, their budget and time is limited. Here are some ideas I've had so far and comments on each. Outsource to a budget production company Pros: $500/min or less (I hope), time saving Cons: Quality, possibly boring Sock Puppets Pros: Doable in-house, creative and engaging, multiple characters possible for a conversation rather than 1 actor Cons: Does not fit the corporate theme/feel of the site GoAnimate Cartoon Animations Pros: Doable in-house or hired creator at $500/min or less, creative and engaging, multiple characters possible for a conversation rather than 1 actor Cons: Off-limits, as this is being utilized by a subsidiary partner site that we need to differentiate from Slideshow Video Pros: Doable in-house, no actors required Cons: Possibly boring, only suitable for certain topics Does anyone have any additional ideas to throw out there or comments on how to implement the above in a suitable way for this corporate site?
