How to go about removing bad/irrelevent links?
-
We have been made aware of a series of irrelevant links on some rather dodgy sites.

Absolute rubbish im sure you will agree. These links must surely be causing our link profile some damage.
They are currently wordpress sites with no means of contacting the authors. What ways and means are there of removing these negative pages and links?
Cheers all, any help appreciated.

Hi Tim,
We just opened free Beta during this last weekend on a link removal management service that we developed.
The free trial will allow you to run a campaign including the domains you mentioned in your post.
The tool allows you to drop in a list of URLs, pull contact information from ICANN (the whois data mentioned above)Â for each of the domains, customize emails, send follow-ups, receive notification of cleanups from webmasters etc.
Hope it helps,
Sha

There's no quick route for SEO. Work slow, and do your work properly. I think that ipositions' suggesting is by far the best one - look-up contact details, contact them and request to remove the link. Patience helps

I do agree that not spending too much time is critical, as it can become hugely time consuming and inefficient. But getting rid of a few is also a help.
Being so time consuming was the main reason in my initial post, to see if there were any quicker options available to web masters, e.g. sending google a list of links that you wish for it to disregard due to not being generated by yourself... unlikely I know... :o(
Thanks for the response.

Have you looked for the email address of the webmaster using whois.net? That's the first thing we do when contact details are not provided on the site.
I've seen a lot of people here going on about removing bad links and where possible I agree that it should be done. However a line must be drawn where getting a link removed becomes too time consuming to be worth the effort. That time would be better spent creating content, reaching out to popular relevant blogs etc and create enough good links that offset the bad ones.
Hope this helps

I can get hundreds of natural links from real estate agent sites, but should I?
I have a website that generate leads for real estate agents nationwide. I have an auto email that sends out the referral agreement and in the email I ask them to place a link to our website on their site somewhere to be a part of the program. I can get as many as 10-15 links in a few hours in every major city in the U.S. Most realtor websites have websites that are new, or haven't posted blogs and have a Moz domain score of 1 and trust score of 1. I have been thinking of only selecting websites with descent Moz rankings instead of having all agents link to me, even ones with a low moz score. Is it a bad idea to get a bunch of links from legitimate websites that have low Moz scores?

What is the best way to become a published writer / blogger for bigger industry sites?
I'm a younger SEO manager and wanted to started establishing my name throughout the industry through well written blogs, expert articles, and any advice that is needed. I know a lot of answers will be to start my own blog and establish that and I'll get noticed, but is there a good way to make the first contact with industry sites to get an article or blog post published to their site? Or is it a pretty tight "gotta know someone" inner circle?

How Google could quickly fix the whole Links problem...
A Thursday morning brainstorm that hopefully an important Google manager will see... Google could quickly end all the problems of link buying, spammy links, and negative SEO with one easy step: Only count the 100 best follow links to any domain. Ignore all the nofollows and everything beyond the 100 best. They can choose what "best" means. Suddenly links would be all about quality. Quantity would not matter. Fiverr links, comment links, and all the other mass-produced spam links would literally be ignored. Unless that's all a domain had, and then they would surely be stomped by any domain with 100 decent natural links. Would it be an improvement over today's situation?

Strange video site adding unwanted links.
Today I was checking our backlink profile and noticed a lot of strange back links coming from grosezinga.com apparently this site is some type of search engine for videos, and it somehow pulls videos from Youtube, and Daily Motion, and adds them to the grosezinga search engine. I have never placed a link on this site, I do not want a link there, and I never even knew it existed until today. We do have video tutorials on the web, and somehow this site has pulled them from our video page without our permission, and added them to this site. Anyone ever had this problem, should I ask for them to be removed? When I do a Google video search my url is showing up on about a hundred different videos that are not ours.  I don't want to be accused of building unnatural links.

Upcoming/Fall SEO Conferences (2012)
I have been attending Pubcon for almost a decade now. I have missed only 1 or 2 in the last 9 years. This year, I was considering to go to Mozcon and SMX Advanced, but the dates did not work out for me. Next year I am not missing either of these conferences. For this year, if I was to attend one of the following, which one do folks recommend (I would love to know the 1st hand experiences, comparisons): http://www.pubcon.com/

Do "big" SEO companies remove links after termination of service?
Or worded differently: Has anyone heard of "big" SEO companies removing links after termination of service? I have a client who isn't particularly happy with the SEO he's getting from a big Aussie SEO firm, and he wants to terminate, however they've built thousands of links for him and he's a little concerned they might all get pulled. Has anyone heard of this happening, or; Do you think this is a legitimate concern? I think its physically possible to remove backlinks like this because it seems the SEO firm in question is building links by using other client's websites. I also wonder if they might have large content farm style sites where they place links for clients which might be quite easy to take down. Please discuss!

How to remove a Google algorithmic penalty
My site has a Google penalty. I seem to be stuck in the 64th position for a Google search for my sites name. All my keywords that I used to rank well for are now well above the 60th search place in Google. I have resolved the issue I recieved the penalty for and I have asked Google for reconsideration. That has been about 3 months ago. The penalty is still firmly in place. I was wondering if anyone else has had a Google algorithmic penalty removed and if so how did they accomplish this?
