Is this a good idea for link earning?
-
Hi,
One of our clients provides legal documents online and one of the document is bespoke 'Privacy Policy' for websites. It normally comes with a price as solicitors draft each policy manually. We were thinking to offer this for Free
1 - As a promotion so that we can attract webmasters
2- to earn links that we will ask webmasters to give us a link from their website once they add the text
I wanted to get the understanding from you before i go ahead if this is a good a way to gain links or not?
I appreciate your input
Thank you
-
Sounds good I'd love to hear the follow-up sometime. If you can vary the anchor text or keep it to something like "Click Here" or better yet your brand name that would definitely help avoid penalties.
Also try to keep the possibility of adding a no-follow to those links open with any webmasters you work with. You might even want to pick and choose certain domains to automatically nofollow from.
That's what I would do. Good luck!

Jesse, i think you are right, it is a grey area and i guess it is hard to know what will happen before i test it. I'll go ahead with the plan and I'll share the results with you. Hopefully, the results will be positive.
Thank you all

I would definitely tend to agree while worrying that there's somewhat of a gray area here.
Reason being that the page might not be as relevant as the domain. So if the privacy policy page is on hip-hop-records.com's signup page, and there are 100s/1000s of these types of links coming in with presumably all the same anchor text (i.e. "Privacy Policy") then that could be dangerous.
If all of the sites you deal with are legal sites and SMBs then fine. But I feel like many sites can generate privacy policies for any type of business/service/product/etc.
-
I definitely agree, it's relevant and they will probably pass a lot of PR sine the privacy page is usually all text and limited outgoing links.
-
Thank you all, each comment is very helpful.
I think getting a footer link is not a good idea but this won't be a footer a link. It will be coming only from 'Privacy Policy' page and if we can link to terms 'privacy policy' it won't be unrelated as this is what client provides.
I think it is a little different issue here then ''' website is create by ...Brand''. In terms of gaining links from any website is not unrelated to us, because a website with a 'Privacy Policy' is generally a business website and this legal company deals with legal matters of the businesses including Privacy Policy. I think as long as the links come from Privacy Policy or Terms and Conditions page, it will be a related link.
Would you agree?
-
I agree with Jeff that from a marketing perspective this is a good idea but forget about the link building opportunities. What you really want (using Jeff's example) is other web design companies linking and saying "woah you can get this awesome service for free over at ______." That way it is relevant, natural, and authoritative.
Technically what you're describing slightly violates the Google ToS, but I don't think you would be penalized for it unless you started QUICKLY gaining a ton of links from low DA and non-relevant sites. Nonetheless I think the idea is sound and after promoting it online you might find that it brings in new opportunities for link building in an organic manner.
You'd be surprised. And that's why SEO is now marketing which is now SEO which is marketing.
-
I think it's a decent idea because thew privacy policy page is usually linked to from the global footer so usually this page accrues decent PR if the site has PR. Also there are usually very few outgoing links on a privacy page, and it's only a link on that one page and not sitewide which is good.

Many website design companies do this with clients, putting "Web Design By company name" and adding a link either to the exact anchor text, or their company name. We experimented with this and found that there is a diminishing return on links like this, because our clients websites have nothing to do with web design.
This would probably be the same case for privacy policies for websites. Because the clients websites won't have anything to do with legal documents, it may not be the best linking strategy.
I do think giving it away for free is a good strategy. Instead of demanding them to provide a link from their website however, I'd try to get them to promote it on social media. Make easy share buttons from the documents with text like "We just got a free privacy policy for our website from (link to your clients company)"
Hope this helps

Paid Manual 10 Guest Post EDU Back-Links - GOOD or BAD idea?
Hello, I know **Fiverr **has been a topic of discussion for a while in regards to cheap and bad SEO work. Most of the threads I found here refer to buying 1000's of EDU backlinks - but what about 10 manually placed that seem legit? The seller states in his GIG "I have guest posting privilege at Different University websites. I will write and publish a post there with a dofollow backlink to your website, using your anchor text. The article will contain one relevant, contextual link to your website, using a suitable anchor text. There would also be a few other links to authority sites (not your competitors’ sites) to make everything look professional and natural." Could anyone give me advice as to something like this is worth it - or did the seller simply reduce the number from 1000's to 10's to avoid suspicion? I mean even if 1 of the links is valid - surely it makes a difference? or am I still high on the fiverr dream? I dont expect an instant PR or SERP increase, Im simply wondering if something like this is harmful or beneficial, and to what extent.

Link Building where link building is dead. Latest tactics in a land of content.
Hello, What is your latest link building techniques considering manual link building is basically dead, and you should really build good content to drive results. Link building has really become less important. It seems to be much more 10X content now. What would you recommend for basic link building considering this besides the 50 first Links video by Rand, which is excellent. Thanks, Bob

Sitewide links from affiliates. Good or bad?
We have 14 affiliate sites that have a sitewide banner linked to one of our pages. The banner link is "follow" and contains an alt text that includes a brand name and a keyword. Are these links harming us, or creating value? We were hit by Panda 2.0 - do you think it might be the reason?

things I have found are that majority of links to the site is coming from an

Link exchanges
I have quite a few legal clients and 90% of my clients top competitors are doing 1:1 link exchanges and they have been doing it for years. Other industries Dont seem as prevalent. I am just boggled every time someone says link exchanges don't work, will get penalized, or value is not passed. Its been working for my competitors....Legal SEO's seem to focus heavily on link exchanges. I have yet to do link exchanges, but am about to get started with a resourceful directory of local businesses on my clients site. Some will be linking back, but not all. Fear of penalization is lurking in my mind. Does anyone have any real data on this? Does anyone have an example of doing this properly and an example of how not to do it? I appreciate any feedback you can give. Thank you,

What are good companies to buy links from?
I am sure that asking such a question on SEOMoz will bring the world down on my head, but let's be honest, sometimes buying links, especially high quality links from reputable sources does give a nice boost to go along with the rest of the onsite and offsite SEO practices. So, those of you who are so anti-link buying that the very mention of it is anathema, please put some duct tape over your mouths or on your typing fingers and allow people who get my point to respond... I bet there are some really good link sellers on the web - but i do not know who they are. Â All of them claim to have the fantastic and best way to give me 1000's of wonderful links - but who the heck really delivers? if there is really no one trustworthy and the only way to build is by way of what I am already doing (mid-quality SEO), feel free to tell me. Â But if there are 3 or 4 amazing companies out there, please give your reasons and testimonials. I would so appreciate it. And apologies to the SEO purists - but my clients do not understand algorithmic changes and slow/steady movements...and i don't blame them. but to all - love, love, love thanks for the advice ben

Link building
I have two separate websites on different servers and was wondering that since reciprocal links effectively eliminate each other, I'm curious if this link strategy will keep the links counting. Here's the strategy: I will have someone link to my site A and if i link to their site from my site B in a three way link strategy, will the links count even though both my site A and B have me listed as the Whois so Google knows that both sites are owned by me? Or will the links be discounted as reciprocal? Thanks in advance for your feedback! Take care, Ron

Linking articles to each other
I've been using white-hat article marketing to post original content about my niche to credible article directories (yes, I realize many of them were recently devalued). My question is: Is it a good or bad idea to have future articles link to older articles, as a way to increase the chances of having the older articles indexed, or increasing the amount of link juice they pass to my site (since they point to my site)? I get 2 links per article and was thinking of using 1 to point to a prior (related) article, and the other to point to my site.
