Lost pagerank due to domain redirect
-
Dear All,
My customer has been merged by a larger organization. They redirected the old domain with 301 which had a pagerank of 6 to a new domain which is 0. Is there any chance how i could recover the pagerank and pass it to the new domain? If yes what is your opinion?
Thank you,M.

Thank you for your reply! I knew it i just thought that it had such a strong pr (6) that it is a huge loss even if Google decreasing the focus from it. I also saw the authority metrics growing on the new domain which means that the new domain got some of its authority from the old. Perhaps we should wait another pr refresh. I tried to convince them to redirect the subpages to relewant new subpages but they wanted the hole previous version and the old domain to disappear.
Thank you for your reply!

I wouldn't focus on PR as the metric is not getting updated very often and is probably going to be retired very soon, you may find the following a good read- http://searchengineland.com/googles-matt-cutts-no-more-pagerank-updates-this-year-173676
When redirected don't push the whole site to one page try to move each page (obviously depends on the size of the site) to a relevant page so you won't loose as much juice, you will loose some however. It also depends if its the same relevancy as to what Google thinks of your redirect. You will loose some, you can look up some of Matt Cutts talks on 301 redirects he has a few videos about on it.
Good Luck

Keep in mind Martin, that the PR you see on a toolbar is only updated a few times per year and that the actual PR of the second site may have already increased due to that 301. If you notice a change in rankings or traffic for any of your keywords you may be seeing the results of that change.

When you redirect A to B, B does not equal A, but rather inherits some of A's authority.
You will need to further develop the link profile of B with other mixed authority linking domains in order to improve it's own domain authority. I wouldn't get hung up on pagerank, it's never current and only a contributing factor to overall domain authority.
I would use something like Open Site Explorer to gauge the overall domain authority and work from there.
Going back to your question the only way to retain that domain authority (in part pagerank) of A is to not 301 to B. But I guess that if A has been bought out they want it to disappear into the main pot.

Redirect Error
Hello, I was sent a report from a colleague containing redirect errors: The link to "http://www.xxxx.com/old-page/" has resulted in HTTP redirection to "http://www.xxxx.com/new-page".Search engines can only pass page rankings and other relevant data through a single redirection hop. Using unnecessary redirects can have a negative impact on page ranking. Our site is host on Microsoft Servers (IIS). I'm not sure what is causing these errors. Would it be the way the redirect was implemented.

Should we 301 redirect our old domain to the new domain
We have a product that when started was under the domain appnowgo.com. We've since changed the name and the domain is now knackhq.com. The latter domain doesn't rank nearly as well as the former for many of the keywords we are targeting. For example... "online database builder" and "web app builder" are two of those keywords. Obviously having app in the domain is not a bad thing but it is our old name. The question is, should we 301 the appnowgo.com domain to knackhq.com? Or should we use that better rank and just link users to knackhq.com from the appnowgo.com site until we can increase our ranking for knackhq.com? We don't plan to update the content on appnowgo.com anymore and we obviously don't want to drop off rank if at all possible. Thanks! Eric

Should a 301 from a penalised domain to a new domain be removed?
A business traded on a domain let's say example.COM which was heavily penalised due to non-removable spammy back links. Their previous SEO advised them to set up on example.CO.UK but redirected example.COM to example.CO.UK. Example.CO.UK ranks very poorly, presumably due to being 'tarred with the same brush' i.e. attributed with the ills of example.COM. Will it do any good to remove the redirect or is example.CO.UK now doomed as well?

.com domain is an iframe copy of a .net domain?
Hey folks, This one is over my head. I'm helping out a friend's dental office website (www.capitolperiodontal.com), and their home page source code points to the .net TLD for its content apparently: | | <title></span>http://www.capitolperiodontal.com/</title> http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html" /> rows="100%" id="dd_frameset_0001"> src="http://www.capitolperiodontal.net/" name="dd_content_0001" framespacing="0" frameborder="0" noresize="noresize" title="capitolperiodontal.com" /> <noframes></noframes> My idea was to load all the content from the .net to the .com, then redirect the .net to the .com as it has better domain authority and is, well a .com. Any insights what this iframe biz is all about and if my strategy above is ok? Many thanks folks! john

Sub Domain SEO
I am thinking to Add Sub Domains to get better rankings for Local Searches. So I will develop City Specific Sites with Specific Language. For Example qatar.wisnetsol.com. IT will be in Arabic. If my Good standing and Ranking on Google for wisnetsol.com will help my subdomain to rank better? if we setup wisnetsol.com/qatar, how it can target Qatar in Google Webmaster tools? Will links for qatar.wisnetsol.com and wisnetsol.com are seprate? What do you think about this strategy? Is it good or bad?
