Special result for linkedin when you search for 'link'
-
Hello everyone,
I found this merely by chance. I wanted to open linkedin on chrome and hasty as I am i just typed 'link'. Wanted google to understand and return linkedin as the first result so i could just click on it.
This is what it returned.
Google allows you to search directly on Linkedin from the results page.
Its quite fascinating for me. I hope my knowledge isn't too outdated.

It probably can be explained, but sadly not by me!

Hello Amelia,
Thanks for your response.
You may be right about the point that google might have rolled it out in this region now... but i would doubt it would take a year for the updates to show effect across the world. I deem it would be faster.
I did know it happened for wikipedia... but i only knew it in theory. Actually this is the first time i saw it and the interesting thing is that if you searched for 'linkedin' the results are normal. But a search for 'link' shows this embedded search feature.
Can this be explained?
-
They used to let you do the same with wikipedia, seems to not be there today when I search though. Other sites that have this are Amazon and The BBC. I haven't checked for any more though!
I assume it's only high traffic sites that get this. I wonder what the threshold is?
Like you say: fascinating!
BTW, I noticed this ages ago, but that doesn't mean you're knowledge is outdated, it's probably one of those things Google has rolled out at different times in different countries. I can't actually remember the first time I saw it, but it was probably at least a year ago. I'm in the UK.
Best wishes,
Amelia

Company FB Page Automatically Friend-Requesting Admins' Contacts
Hola, So today we added 3 or 4 admins to our company FB page. Our company FB consists of a 'profile' and that 'profile' has create a FB 'page' for the business. All of a sudden, the profile (not the company 'page') started to get a new friends. We thought this was weird as we weren't using this for promotion, we were using the company FB page. Anyway, when we dug a little deeper, we found the profile had automatically sent friend requests to all of the admins' contacts (around 2,000 people!). When we checked the friend request page, we realised we can't cancel all the requests, they have to be done individually! Why would FB do this? It might not be so bad if it was actually inviting the admins' contacts to 'like' the business page, but it's just adding them to the main profile's friend list. The only solution we can find is to deactivate/delete the profile and keep the company page with all the admin attached. Any ideas on this one? It's very weird and now it just looks like our fleldgling business is spamming people! Cheers, Lewis

Facebook sharing and referral links. Is there a happy medium?
We have a website with a large member base where users share content a lot. But the SEO problem I have, is that every share needs to reflect a "referral link" so that if a new user signs up, the original sharer receives "referral" credit for that sign up. I really want to be able to take advantage of our huge member base and their sharing, but I'm finding it difficult to do so because each user shares a link that has their referral in it. Can anyone think of an SEO friendly method of sharing that both gives our site SEO benefits, as well as providing the referral credit back to the user?

Shared articles in the SERP's - who sees these shares?
Hi Folks, I am trying to find out a little more about how individuals need to be connected to see that someone 'shared' something and for this to then show up in my results when signed into Google. Can anyone shed a little more light on this please? I am just looking for extra clarification. Would we need to be connected through Google Buzz? Facebook? Twitter? Quora? LinkedIn? None of the above? With everyone you are connected to through your Google Account? What is Google using when it looks at how I am connected with others? This is from their Blog: "First, social search results will now be mixed throughout your results based on their relevance (in the past they only appeared at the bottom). This means you’ll start seeing more from people like co-workers and friends, with annotations below the results they’ve shared or created. So if you’re thinking about climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and your colleague Matt has written a blog post about his own experience, then we’ll bump up that post with a note and a picture..." And... "Second, we’ve made Social Search more comprehensive by adding notes for links people have shared on Twitter and other sites. In the past, we’d show you results people created and linked through their Google profiles. Now, if someone you’re connected to has publicly shared a link, we may show that link in your results with a clear annotation (which is visible only to you, and only when you’re signed in). For example, if you’re looking for a video of President Obama on “The Daily Show” and your friend Nundu tweeted the video, that result might show up higher in your results and you’ll see a note with a picture of Nundu:" Many thanks, Andy

How do I control the thumbnail image for a link on a Facebook post?
Hi, All! I've spent about an hour working on this with no success, so I thought I would ask the community: How do you tell Facebook which image to put in for the thumbnail on a link you're posting? And I would like it to be a different image for each post, and I don't want to have to deal with programming PHP (the main solutions I saw). I'm on a Wordpress based site, and I've tried putting images in as the featured image, made sure they weren't huge (under 200x200), made sure they were .jpeg... and the only thing that Facebook offers me as a thumbnail is a generic "green globe" image that I don't believe comes from my site at all. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
