Website Domains, Geographical targeting and Duplicate Content

My colleagues in Holland have 2 websites. I've copied and pasted their question - my comments are at the bottom
"www.ancoferwaldram.nl with NL, EN and FR language
www.ancoferwaldram.com with only EN language
The EN versions Google sees as “duplicate content” so we have to get rid of that.
I think we better use 1 website:
www.ancoferwaldram.com with NL, EN, FR and maybe other languages and deactivate www.ancoferwaldram.nl
Or keep the www.ancoferwaldram.nl with only the NL language?
Or keep the www.ancoferwaldram.nl with direct links to www.ancoferwaldram.com and no content?"
The focus is to get the site to rank in Non-eu countries for export. So given the .nl has higher DA (though only about 15) would it be better to have seperate .fr, .be, .com sites for specific languages and geo targeting. Or would it be better to keep everything on the same site? If so which domain?
i assume that the duplicate content can be resolved by stating which is the canonical version, once the domain strategy is resolved
welcome any thoughts here.

I've worked on a big project like this. The best option is to go for TLD, but it's ususally not possible. In your case what I do recommend is
- Get .com as the main domain
- Create folder with language option if you feel it'll make a difference /en-us /nl-de otherwise just keep /[language]
We used it on ibremarketing.com and so far I'm very happy of the results !

To me, this depends on a couple factors. How much effort can go towards this project, and is the content essentially the same, or does it vary per country.
If the content varies, and there is enough manpower to manage multiple sites in multiple languages, then have separate websites optimized for their unique content in their respective domains.
If the opposite is true, keep it all in one domain and use the /en, /fr, etc language settings afterwards. Obviously monitor anything that could be flagged as duplicate and use canonical accordingly. Keep in mind it could take more effort to get that site ranking around the world. That's my $0.02 at least, hope it helps

If I would be in the similar situation I will use the basics and go from there. Here are some of the basic, I would keep in mind:
- Country level domain is always difficult to rank in other countries. For example, if you have a website with .co.uk domain, it will be difficult for this domain to rank on Google.com (US).
- Country level domains are easier to rank on its particular country. If you website is .fr, its relatively easier to rank on Google FR as compare to a website that have a domain with some other TLD.
Keeping the above basics in mind, here are the options I have:
- If I need one website deal with everything, then it’s better to have a general domain like .com instead of a country level domain so that it has a relatively better chance to rank in non-eu countries.
- If we can afford and manage multiple website, country specific TLD will be easier to rank in those countries but in that case we have to limit our self to countries.
The options are at the front of you, now idea is to make a choice and go from there accordingly.

Is this approach of returning different content depending on IP beneficial for international SEO?
I've decided to use sub folders for my site, and from everything I've read online it seems I shouldn't change the page content depending on IP, yet I know of a successful well funded site that hires full time SEO staff that does just that, and I'm wondering whether they know something I don’t which is helping their SEO. From everything I've read online this is the format I think I should use: mysite.com/us/red-wigs mysite.com/gb/red-wigs mysite.com/red-wigs does not exist This is the format the other site is using: othersite.com/red-wigs (from US IP address) othersite.com/red-wigs (from UK IP address) othersite.com/gb/red-wigs The content on othersite.com/red-wigs is identical to othersite.com/gb/red-wigs when loading from a UK IP address, and a lot of URLs without /gb/ are being returned when searching google. The benefit I can think of that they are gaining is US pages which are being returned for UK based searches will return the correct content. Are their any other gains to this approach? I'm concerned that if I use this approach for different languages then the radically differing content of othersite.com/red-wigs depending on the location of the crawler might confuse google - also generally changing content depending on IP seems to be recommended against. URL structure of international hotel website
Hai all, Question about URL structure of international hotel website in Amsterdam: hotelcitadel.nl. Some information: - Target group are mainly english speaking guests from UK and US. Besides that guests from the Netherlands and some other countries. - Website in 6 languages. - No geo-targetting; just language targetting with hreflang annotations. Current situation: hotelcitadel.nl = dutch language version and hotelcitadel.nl/en = english language version We are thinking about changing this to: hotelcitadel.nl would become english version and hotelcitadel.nl/nl would become the dutch version. Reason: root domain hotelcitadel.nl has by far the most links,and making the root domain the english version could help the rankings in english speaking countries like UK and US. International SEO - Mixing country targeting and language targeting in GWT.
Hi all! I want to start with International SEO process for my ecommerce. We sell worldwide with a .com domain, although the business is mainly focused in Spain. We maintain three languages, spanish, english and french with a non suitable structure. Now, after read a lot about it, I'm considering to use subdirectories for each language, /es/, /en/ and /fr/. And heres it's my first doubt: Could I avoid /es/ from spanish language as it's the default one? I've understood from recents Q&A that it's not needed although more user friendly. I'm trying to avoid tons of 301 from old urls for my main language. Anyway I want to know the best approach regardless complexity. My second doubt is about country targeting. After some research, I consider that it'd be interesting target country for /fr/ subdomain but language for /en/. Do you see any problem mixing both strategies? Multilingual Site with 2 Separate domains and hand-translated
I have 2 separate domains: .com & .jp

I am having a professional translator translate the English written material from .com. However, the .jp will have same pictures and videos that I have on the .com which means alt tags are in English and video titles are in English. I have some dynamic pages where I use Google Translate and those pages I place as "no index follow" to avoid duplicate issues and they are not very important pages for me any way. Question: since I am doing a proper translating - no machines involved - can I leave pages as is or should I include any format of these: ISO language codes

Hi, We have a website which is in english and dutch language. Our website has the following structure www.eurocottage.com:

Spanglish? Picking keywords for an English website with a Spanish speaking search demographic
I'm putting together meta data for an English website whose target search demographic is the Hispanic market. The website has a Spanish translation as well. When I entered the website into the Google Adwords keyword tool to begin doing keyword research, all keywords returned to me were in Spanish. I am unsure if the meta data keywords I'm preparing for the page should be in Spanish despite the fact that I am preparing the meta data for the English version. Moreover, should there be any mixed Spanish English (Spanglish?) keywords as users might be searching under the English search but in Spanish or with queries that are partially in Spanish?
