Deciding on directories
-
Hi guys, I've read lots of different opinions on directories and it seems that directories are still a useful part of an SEO strategy.
What I'm struggling to understand however is how to know which directories are worth listing with and which may get the company a slapped wrist from Google.
Is there an easy way to know such as its domain authority?
Cheers in advance for your help!

I often see people going crazy disavowing directory links that are actually good, valid citations. When trying to decide whether a directory is good, I'll ask the following questions:
-Is there any chance I'd get some clients to me from this directory?
-Would I still want a link here if nofollowed?
-Is this a valid industry directory or just one that is set up to link out?
-Does the directory allow you to control your anchor text? (That's usually a bad sign)

Hi Leo,
There are only a few directory that actually pass significant SEO value to your sites.
There are few metrics that you have to keep in mind during selection of directory website.
1>Must have good DA
2>Must have good MozRank (because PR has not been updated since December 2013)
3>The stronger the directory domain the better the backlink
Here are few good directories where you can submit your website

Thanks for replying Linda. There may be a completely obvious answer to this question but how can you tell if it is a curated list or not?
-
Moz used to have such a list, but found keeping it up was beyond the time and resources they had available. The general advice given about getting listed in directories is that they should be good quality curated directories, relevant to your business.
In general, directory links are not as valuable as they used to be, and there are many low-quality ones out there, so be careful with this type of linking.

Selling Paid Directories
Hello Mozzers! Like most, we have greatly reduced the number of paid directories in which we enroll our clients. We do, however, still utilize a few. For those of you still using select paid directories, what approach do you take in marketing these sites to your clients? Thanks in advance for your input!

Directory Listing without Permission... Was your company listed here also likes ours?
We just found a backlink for our site from a brand spanking new, week-old directory site. We did not create this, so aside from submitting a request to remove it through their contact form (which we already did), do you have any other tips to get this removed beside submitting a disavow request. http://seo-company-in.com//United_States/North_Carolina/whiteboard-creations-cary-and-raleigh-nc-web-design-and-seo-service-267 Also, check to make sure your company isn't listed as well without your permission (not providing a functioning link back for them, but enter in their domain to check it out. Let me know your thoughts. - Patrick

Why does my aged Yahoo Directory listing not show up as link in OpenSiteExplorer?
A site of my is in the yahoo directory (3dprinter.net). It's been there for a long time. I just went into OpenSiteExplorer to see where the link ranked, and it's not there. Why would not not show up? And if it doesn't show up, is it even worth my money to do for other sites?

How do you feel about article directories?
Hello, I am a beginner in SEO and I have been reading a lot recently about article directories and article marketing. I have already started writing for article directories, ezinearticles particularly, but I still have mix feelings about it: does it really worth spending some time to write unique articles and to submit them to directories? How does Google feel about it? What do you think about small linkwheel strategies to give some weight to the content you create?
