Page Authority
-
Hi
We have a large number of pages, all sitting within various categories.
I am struggling to rank a level 3 for example, or increase authority of this page. Apart from putting it in the main menu or trying to build quality links to it, are there any other methods I can try?
We have so many pages I find it hard to workout what the best way to internal link these pages for authority. At the moment they're classified in their relevant categories, but these go from level 1 down to 4 - is this too many classification levels?

Hi,
Thank you both for your replies. I am working through onsite optimisation as this has been overlooked in the past, but it's a huge task for such a big task and taking up all of my time.
We do have schema and I have tried implementing the sitelinks search box but nothing shows in Google - I thought they chose who to show schema for?
I'll read the articles
Thanks!

Hi there
The resource Andy links to above is fantastic - I highly suggest reading and looking at the tactics they discuss as this is definitely beneficial to deeper internal pages.
I would also offer the following: take a look at Schema.org opportunities. The beauty here, beyond numerous types and ways of implementing (like organization, breadcrumbs, webpage, products, etc), a lot of these vocabularies can be built into the templates of your website and pull data from the page, saving you time, effort, and ultimately helping your website rank better.
Building off of this, I would also look into Google Sitelinks and Sitelinks Search Box - both will help give you a competitive edge in search results and also help users get to deeper content!
And lastly, while very basic and foundational, but often forgotten and overlooked, make sure your onsite SEO is on point and as optimized as it can be. Again, I am sure you've done this but sometimes there are little quick wins that can help you immensely.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! Good luck!

Hi Becky,
This sounds like a perfect candidate for some internal linking.
I like to point anyone looking at this, to the following article on EConsultancy as it explains the idea behind it and how you would implement. Well worth the read

Few pages without SSL
Hi, A website is not fully secured with a SSL certificate.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | AdenaSEO
Approx 97% of the pages on the website are secured. A few pages are unfortunately not secured with a SSL certificate, because otherwise some functions on those pages do not work. It's a website where you can play online games. These games do not work with an SSL connection. Is there anything we have to consider or optimize?
Because, for example when we click on the secure lock icon in the browser, the following notice.
Your connection to this site is not fully secured Can this harm the Google ranking? Regards,

Domain Authority
Hi I wanted to find out if anyone knew how to discover why DA may have dropped? Ours has gone from 26 to 25 - I know it's not much, but I wanted to find the reason. One thing which happened was our developer company wiped redirects, which did impact rankings - would this also have affected domain authority or do I need to review our backlinks again? Thank you

Home Page Authority
My site has several different homepage versions. I am running on the Volusion eCommerce. www.mydomain.com - Page Authority 44
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | PartyStore
www.mydomain.com/Default.asp - Page Authority 33
www.mydomain.com/default.asp - Page Authority = 33 So here is the question, is it normal to have different page Authorities for each version? Is this diluting my SEO for the homepage? Any input on this would be appreciated.0 -
Is it a problem to use a 301 redirect to a 404 error page, instead of serving directly a 404 page?
We are building URLs dynamically with apache rewrite.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | lcourse
When we detect that an URL is matching some valid patterns, we serve a script which then may detect that the combination of parameters in the URL does not exist. If this happens we produce a 301 redirect to another URL which serves a 404 error page, So my doubt is the following: Do I have to worry about not serving directly an 404, but redirecting (301) to a 404 page? Will this lead to the erroneous original URL staying longer in the google index than if I would serve directly a 404? Some context. It is a site with about 200.000 web pages and we have currently 90.000 404 errors reported in webmaster tools (even though only 600 detected last month).0 -
Should I block temporary pages
I need some SEO advice on an odd scenario: We are launching a new product line (party supplies) on it's own domain (PartySuperCenter.com). Due to some internal/technical reasons we will not be able to launch the site until the summer. We already have the product in our warehouse so the owners want to created a section on our current site (CostumeSuperCenter.com) for the new products. Once the new site is up the product will be removed from our current site and moved to the new site. I am concerned about the effect this will have on our SEO - having thousands of product pages appear and then disappear after a few months. I was thinking about blocking the pages using the "noindex" tag. Is this how you would handle it? Thanks in advance for your help!

Setting up a Blog - Guest Authors
I am planning on setting up a blog in the next couple months. We would like to have 10 different categories that professionals can write about and submit articles. Any suggestions on which blogging software to put on the site. So far I have heard of WordPress and Joomla. (Not sure which is the best version) We want it to maybe have the bloggers logo or pictures, date, etc. None of us have had any experience with this so we needed some input. I have been reading everywhere that blogging is huge for SEO and so I just wanted to improve ours plus maybe drive more traffic with a high level blog for professionals. Any ideas or even books that I should go purchase to study up. When we do this it would be great to get it set up properly from the get go. 🙂 Boo

Google Author: Is there a Limit to How Many Authors to Include?
We have multiple freelance writers that work for us. Should we require all of them to create a google + profile with authorship?

Do in page links pointing to the parent page make the page more relevant for that term?
Here's a technical question. Suppose I have a page relevant to the term "Mobile Phones". I have a piece of text, on that page talking about "mobile phones", and within that text is the term "cell phones". Now if I link the text "cell phones", to the page it is already placed on (ie the parent page) - will the page gain more relevancy for the term "cell phones"?? Thanks
