Yoast News Plugin Extension - Thoughts?
-
Hello!
I'm looking at picking up the Yoast News SEO plugin extension to add to our company's wordpress site. We're a UK manufacturer but have lots of regular news stories (new products, industry info, new projects etc.) that is relevant to our niche market.
We'd love to get these stories featured into the Google News feed and this may be a route.
Anyone using the plugin? Any thoughts?
Thanks

Does Google ding a site that uses the Yoast News Plug-in when it is not a news site? Are there any other precautions to take in using this plug-in? Like not posting too many stories as "news'? One of our competitor's uses Facebook as their publisher.

My experience is that it works well to generate the specific XML sitemap formats, meta news keywords tags, and the Editor's Picks RSS feed. These can be a pain to do if you're not a web developer, so it's a fair price for the automation. It goes particularly deep on the various news sitemap options. I've had no trouble using it or walking clients through the basics.
It won't organize any of the details you need to get into Google News however (site URL structure, frequency of news publishing, multiple author requirements, etc).
Cheers,
Matthew

The Yoast team has plenty of experience with large publishers, so my guess is that this is the most robust option you have for Wordpress.
But, I don't have any insights for you on the peculiarities of the plugin and things to watch out for. Will forward it along to other folks in case they have any notes.

Hi,
I don't use the plugin, but it is worth making sure that you tick all the boxes for Google News. They are still picky about what they show and internal news and product launches are something they can be a bit funny about.
However, I do have 2 clients that use this without issue and it works really well for them

Recommendation for Geotheme or other directory plugins / themes
Hello, I was wondering, if anyone here in this community runs a directory using wordpress + a geolocation theme like Geoplaces or Geotheme or others. I have tested Geoplaces and felt with around 100 business entries that my page loaded superslow (up to 4 sec) already on a power server. I would like to work with a fast, secure and SEO-friendly directory theme...any recommandations?

Should we be using a blog for news
Our domain has/had a blog on a seperate subdomain. However we were a little slack in always keeping this up to date when we are particularly busy. Rather than reinstating the blog, I have been adding all our new articles directly onto the website rather than as blog posts. Is there any advantage from an SEO perspective to posting articles to a blog rather than as content on a site?

Google RSS Feed News Feed To Inner Pages
Ive been working on a large ecommerce website that has thousands of pages, although we are working on adding custom content daily to the largest pages, we have "defaul content" with dynamic tags matching search query. Someone recommend we add a google Rss feed where they can also add some type of tag. Is this a bad idea? Ive asked in the past but my main concern is issue with duplicate content, It would be next to impossible to have all pages filled with custom content. Any help much appreciated!! Thank you!

Related posts Wordpress plugin
Hi, I was wondering what Wordpress plugin you are using to add related posts to your blog posts. I would need one that allows you to pick the related posts manually and doesn't break the on-page SEO. Thank you! George

Is my SEO guy bad news?
Hi All... I have had an SEO guy doing some work for us (link building etc) over the past few months. In the last week or two, I have been receiving emails from a few website owners complaining that our SEO guy has been spamming their sites (either through blog comments or forums posts etc). Now, to clarify, it's not spam as in "come and buy our awesome product" - it is spam as in he makes (for example) blog post comments that are relevant to the topic, that sometimes don't make perfect sense (due to his english skills). So, they do seem perhaps, extra spammy... (it is all hand written... not an automated scripts) My questions Im not out to do the wrong thing, so, is this approach bad news? Apart from annoying people, are there are other downsides? If I were to pre-write him comments/posts that actually made perfect sense, would that be a better approach? I don't want to annoy people, and I don't want to do the wrong thing, and I don't want our rankings to be effected, so... what is the consensus?

Your Site and Google News Question
My site has been in Google News for about 3 years. Over the weekend, I received this message from Google Hi John, We periodically review news sources, to ensure Google News offers a high quality experience for our users. When we reviewed your site, mainstreetmonroe.com, we found that we can no longer include it in Google News at this time. We reviewed your site and are unable to include it in Google News at this time. We can't include sites that don't have a formal editorial-review process for submitted content. If this exists on your site, please let us know where and we'll be happy to review your site again. Mainstreetmonroe is scheduled to be removed from Google News for a period of at least 30 days. After this 30-day period has elapsed, you can re-apply for inclusion in Google News provided your site meets our guidelines. We appreciate your assistance in this matter. Please note that you'll still be able to find your site in Google Web Search and other Google services. Thanks for your interest in Google News. Regards, The Google News Team What exactly do they mean? I submitted my website news section, but they have been displaying our forum area in the news too. I think the forum is what GN is talking about. What is the best way to fix this problem? Move the forum to a subdomain? Question about Google News Sitemap
I'm submitting my site to Google News, have a few questions for creating my sitemap. The majority of my articles (800) are in a category called 'Disability News' (which is one of my main keywords). Around half of these posts are we're automated RSS feed posts (first 200 words of an article directly copied with a link thru to the original). The past few weeks I've been posting tons of unique content so I was thinking about moving all duplicate content into a category called 'Syndicated News' and excluding that from my Google News sitemap. Is this advisable? or should I just leave it as is?
