Drop in Android organic search
-
Hay Moz Community,
I have been analysing traffic fluctuations for a few websites and have found a noticeable drop in organic traffic from android devices. I initially thought it could be a generic mobile drop but iOS is holding its own?
Can anyone share any insights they may have come across to explain the drop on android specifically.
Thank you in advance

Glad I could help!

Great shout Bridget. They do indeed and that all points to the the answer. Come see me at the #searchlove party this year as I owe you a drink!!

It sounds like it may be a misattribution issue rather than an actual traffic loss. This article seems like it could provide a (partial) answer. Do the dates you saw the drop align with the dates mentioned in the article?

We have only really started to look into the cause in the past few weeks.
Same experience on Android and iOS from the site so no variations there. I would certainly look at a tracking or reporting issue if iOS was also showing a massive change but alas its not. Also other channels are reporting ok.
My hunch is something to do with the way android users get serp results or the way they are displayed for organic but I can't find any differences, It could also be down to user behaviour or intent but again can't pin point it.

When did you notice that this started? Are there any dates that coincide with anything? Is it so significant that you can't just put it down to the number of users on the different devices?
Have there been any changes to the site that might have affected the tracking code at all? Could it be an issue with reporting in Analytics?

there is a slight drop from iOS <5% but the android is a lot more which is what we can't put our finger on. I can't see any differences in way you search or results from iOS and Android which is strange.

Hey Alex,
On Android alone seems like a bit of an odd one. I initially thought about the fact that Google has recently announced that they had finished the rollout of the mobile algorithm and upped the signals, but I can't think how this would impact only Android devices.
Is this something that is across the board for each of your clients?

Massive unexplained organic traffic drop; disappeared from Google
Hi there,
Search Behavior | | katelynroberts
Our site has experienced a huge organic traffic drop, specifically from Google. The drop occurred on Feb 19 and I've got no clue why it happened. We have not made any significant changes to the website and it doesn't look like there was an algorithm update last week. We don't have any Google penalties or indexing issues noted, and the drop isn't specific to any particular segment/region/keyword. What am I missing? Any advice or insight is super duper appreciated. Our site is a Wordpress/WooCommerice e-commerce site with a blog and long-standing #1 ranks for keywords related to our main product offering. Screen Shot 2024-02-26 at 3.12.25 PM.png

Ways to Identify Popular Search Terms
Certain searches seem intuitively like they would be popular, but don't appear so in my keyword research on Moz Pro. For example, I am a therapist and would have guessed that a lot of people would be searching for "online therapy California" during this pandemic, but actually those terms are not popular. I looked at Google Trends to see if I could understand this better, but It wasn't very helpful. Any other suggestions for where to get more information when search terms you would expect to be high volume don't appear to be so?

A Sudden Drop in Keyword Ranking but why?
Hi, I wondered if anyone has ever experienced anything like this before, one of our customers has a website JDB Events (http://www.jdb-events.com/). When he first came to us he was using Fast Hosts and he was experiencing down time pretty much every day in periods of up to an hour. The first step before carrying out any SEO was to place the website on our VPS so that the downtime issue was resolved. It did resolve the issue and the speed of the website was also increased. My next issue was to address the length of the Title on the home page because it was 157 characters, I usually keep these to 70 characters. This is the old Meta Title: JDB Events Limited - Event, Production & AV Hire Specialists | The West Midlands Dance Floor Hire, LED Furniture, DJ, Disco Hire & Event Services Specialists Here is the my new Meta Title: JDB Events | LED Furniture Hire for Parties and Corporate Events I have attached a screenshot of the drop that I have experienced, would anyone recommend that it's ok to keep the title longer so that I can cram more search terms into it, I use Woo Rank as a bench mark and this recommends shortening the title but I would be interested in hearing anyone's views. Other steps that I have taken: Shortened the home page description WWW Resolve Added Robots.txt Crawled all of the pages for 404 errors etc The next step I'm thinking of taking is replacing the amended meta title and description for the old one and monitoring that, other than that I can't see why I have taken such a hit. Huge difference in search results depending on the country?
I have some keywords ranking in pages 2 and 3 in the US but for instance, in Canada, the same keywords rank somewhere between pages 15 and 25. When I check my US rankings, I use a Windows VPS located in the US. When I check my rankings in Canada, I use a computer physically located in Canada. Basically, about 80% of my rankings have gone away for countries other than the US. I have not set any geographical target for my website in GWT. How come there is such a big difference in search results across different countries?

Would you instinctively mistrust a company that has the top 5 or more search listings?
I have seen a few "lucky"(?) companies dominate spots 1-5 of search results. When I see that, I generally go to #6, 7, or even 10 before clicking. My gut reaction is that the company with 1-5 has manipulated content just to pull me in - much like the guys on the streets of NYC or Vegas shoving handbills at you. Is there any evidence/research/poll about the consumer/user reaction when this occurs?

Visitors via Android App in Google Analytics
Hey there Mozzers! For one of our clients, we've developed an application on both Android and iOS. In the app, there is a link to the regular website. Can I see these visitors from the IOS/Android app in Google Analytics? Can I find them via Refferals? Thanks a lot in advance! Partouter
