Do subdomains negatively impact SEO
-
If we want to eliminate one of our domains and consolidate it with our main domain by the subdomain approach, would that negatively impact our SEO? Example: change www.xyz.org to www.xyz.abcd.org,
Thanks, in advance, for your feedback.

I think you may have some traffic loss in the short-term, but over the long term, you ought to be able to get the site traffic back up, especially if you point the old domain to the new subdomain, along with related 301 redirects for individual pages, if you keep the same or a similar site structure.
I happened to have read this earlier today.
"Keep in mind though that subdomains may not fully benefit from the link equity, positive metrics or rankings from the main domain they are associated with and vice versa, if Google thinks of them as being under separate ownership. For example, a blog on blogspot.com does not benefit from the authority of blogspot.com.
That said, if you already have content on a subdomain, it’s worth noting that the effort and consequences of moving that content to a root domain is typically not worth it, unless you spot an issue that compels you to do so.
(If you do decide to move the content from a subdomain to your main domain, a short-term loss in traffic is typical.)"

So, I think you need to fully evaluate the value of moving to a subdomain over staying on a 2nd level domain.

My own experience is that subdomains don't hurt. I have several subdomains on my own site, and pages on that site are top ten in Google. Despite everything that I've read saying that a subdomain doesn't benefit from being attached to a strong domain, my experience has told me otherwise. Perhaps it's because most SEO advice is geared to Big Biz SEO vs. Local SEO. That's why I love MOZ so much, they don't ignore the little guys.

I would certainly avoid it unless you have a specific purpose.
If Google can see the site it will certainly index it.
Domain structure is only a small element of the ranking signals.
If you have links pointing to the domain you will need to set up redirects to maintain your link structure, you may lose a small amount of authority losing a 301 but not much.
Hope that helps
All the best

Is there any benefit or negative impact to including schema for both @type WebPage and NewsArticle on the same page?
Is there any benefit or negative impact to including schema for both @type WebPage and NewsArticle on the same page? The websites I work on are editorial news sites. Our CMS automatically outputs WebPage schema to every article we publish. I want my dev to set up auto-generated NewsArticle schema. The are pretty much identical with a few different attributes. I just want to make sure I make the right choice about adding both or removing one.

Breadcrumbs on Mobile How important are they for SEO?
Due to Poor unsightly look of breadcrumbs and the space it takes up above the fold we only employ breadcrumbs on our desktop version. Breadcrumbs are hidden from view on mobile version. However as mobile first indexing is now in play what technical SEO impacts will this have? one thing that comes to mind is crawling deeper pages where breadcrumbs made them accessible in less than 3 link clicks? But i am unsure now of the impacts of not having breadcrumbs visible for mobile version of our site.

Negative SEO
I have got some idiot bombarding my site with spam links, most likely a negative SEO attempt. It started off very small and has ramped up to between five and 10 spam links per day. I think it may be having a slightly negative affect although difficult to tell. I can do a link cleanup, but I'm not sure that is a long term solution, I'm just going have to do it again in a few weeks time. Does anyone have any experience?

Express js and SEO?
Hi fellow Mozzers, I have been tasked with providing some SEO recommendations for a website that is to be built using express.js and Angular. I wondered whether anyone has had any experience in such a framework? On checking a website built in this and viewing as a GoogleBot etc using the following tools it appears as though most of the content is invisible: http://www.webconfs.com/search-engine-spider-simulator.php http://www.browseo.net/ Obviously this is a huge issue and wonder if there are any workarounds, or reccomendations to assist (even if means moving away from this - would love to hear about it)

Site Launching, not SEO Ready
Hi, So, we have a site going up on Monday, that in many ways hasn't been gotten ready for search. The focus has been on functionality and UX rather than search, which is fair enough. As a result, I have a big list of things for the developer to complete after launch (like sorting out duplicate pages and adding titles that aren't "undefined" etc.). So, my question is whether it would be better to noindex the site until all the main things are sorted before essentially presenting search engines with the best version we can, or to have the site be indexed (duplicate pages and all) and sort these issues "live", as it were? Would either method be advisable over the other, or are there any other solutions? I just want to ensure we start ranking as well as possible as quickly as possible and don't know which way to go. Thanks so much!
