Duplicate central index listing

Hello Moz community
I have a duplicate listing in Central Index (GB) and all communication channels seem unresponsive. I have emailed support and general sales. I even tried contacting them on their facebook account.
I am stumped as to how I can get this duplicate listing removed as I have no control over it and the support is non-existent.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I recently had the same problem (2022) - It appears like their response team has step up - email; support@centralindex.com and they will remove the duplicate/incorrect listing free of charge with a kindly worded email

Hi, we are having issues with Central Index, too.
We are an office space agency that is purely focused on helping businesses find flexible workspace - website: [https://www.theofficeproviders.com](link URL) - our profile was set up a few years ago and listed in the correct category.
However, since December 2020, we have been finding our company listed in all sorts of categories ranging from DVD rentals to fabric retailers!
This is occurring in all newspapers that CI propagates to (so around 500 links).
We have contacted CI several times but no response.
We are aware that these are no follow, but I imagine that this miscategorisation could still be causing SEO problems?
Could anyone suggest a fix?

Hi Avid-Panda - I have the same issue, and despite my many attempts, cannot get my duplicate entry removed. Did you ever remove your duplicate, and if so, could you please let me know how?

Ah, I see where you are coming from. I should have been more clear. The two listings are technically inconsistent, as one listing lacks some details of the other (such as the county/state). So the Name, Address and Phone number does not match up.
That said, one listing having incomplete information is unlikely to have the same implications as a listing which has conflicting information. I haven't seen any data to confirm that though, which is why I assume there is some detrimental impact.
I have tried their social media repeatedly but to no avail.
I'm sure they will call me sooner or later trying to sell something, then I can bring it up

Inconsistent, yes - this could have a negative effect, but just because a listing appears a second time on the same site, this wouldn't be a negative.
Take Yell.com as an example - you can appear on many pages on there, as you can in many directories, and this has never been shown to cause any problems. However, I would be interested to see any research that says otherwise.
I really wouldn't worry about this if all it is, is a possibility that a second listing might also get featured.
I can't offer advice on specifics to do with the site itself I'm afraid though. Have you tried reaching them via Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook?

Yes and yes.
According to many resources including many here on Moz, inconsistent and duplicate listings are bad for local SEO.
Inconsistent listings are more serious, but duplicates also have a negative effect (if someone knows better please update me).
So my concern is that this is having a detrimental effect, however small, that I might not be able to fix. I am surprised that one of the biggest directories in the UK is not managed.
Perhaps I can claim both listings by paying, then delete one of them. Has anyone done this before?

Ahh now I understand - so they are sending your listings out twice?
Have you checked to make sure that your listing is actually being duplicated on other sites?
Chances are that this wouldn't do anything from any SEO or Google perspective - I'm not actually familiar with that site so can't offer any specific suggestions on how they work.
What is your main concern that is worrying you?

Thank you for your response. I am not sure how to interpret your question. The type of listing includes Name, Address, Phone number with the usual info like mail and website. If there is any further criteria for types of listings then I am unfamiliar with it. It isn't a paid listing if that helps.
I thought I had shared the problem. Could you clarify what information you are after?

Why is a Google Listing Showing Up in a Different Town Than Its Address?
I have a client who runs a dental office on the outskirts of Racine, WI. His address specifically shows up as being in Racine, however, his GMB profile has always showed with the category of "Dentist in Mount Pleasant, WI" displaying below the photos. (Mount Pleasant is the next town over and his office straddles the line between the two towns in Google's overlay map of the town.) Hello all I work for a small company. we do carpentings and old wooden furniture repairs. With the same company, we've started a tiny house building business, which is completly different of what we usally do and this is a national business wj The question is, can a create a different google my business listing for this activity ? Publicly-facing departments that operate as distinct entities should have their own page. The exact name of each department must be different from that of the main business and that of other departments. Typically such departments have a separate customer entrance and should each have distinct categories. Their hours may sometimes differ from those of the main business.
• Acceptable (as distinct listings):

Where does text in Google business listing description come from?
Had a question from a freelance project I'm working on and have to admit..I was stumped. When you Google the business "Salute Market Palm Beach Gardens", in the right sidebar there is a short description that reads "This patio bar serves small plates, wine & cocktails in a cozy space with an attached upscale deli." I have no idea where that text is coming from or where it is controlled..thoughts? Thanks! Ricky

Never Removed My Local Listings?
Hi Local SEO experts, A while back we created Google My Business listings for a few of our company locations. A couple of months ago we removed them, because we realized that G might not consider them company locations as they weren't constantly staffed. Only problem is that they started showing up again. Truthfully I don't mind, but I just want to make sure the business won't get penalized for it. They say "claim this business" on the local listing because it's not claimed by us anymore. Is this okay or can we get in trouble for it? If it's not okay, how do I go about removing them if I don't have access to it? Thanks for your time, Rachel

The question is this: How do I help each listing rank high organically over trulia, zillow, realtor and nationally owned companies such as Remax or Bershire Hathaway. 2 listings on Google Local....Need Help!
Hi All, One of our client have 2 business listings on Google Local for same business (same NAP but different website). Actually, their first website was under Google Penalty. They tried to remove the penalty but could not get rid of it so they bought a new domain and started working on it and listed the same business with new website URL. Why does it take so long for citations to get listed?

Paid Yahoo Listings - I Need This, Right?
With the help of a 3rd party contractor, our company has been claiming and curating local listings for several months across dozens of advised platforms. After months of nightmares with Yahoo support, I see that they no longer support free basic local listings and you must buy enhanced listings at $9.95. I'm correct in proposing this to my supervisors, right? We have 70 locations so that's a pretty penny (and have already dropped some funds on our initial efforts), but isn't this a necessity? Not just because it's a top 3 search engine, that it's a major part of the local ecosystem, but that they also have partnered with Yelp and are ramping up their local search efforts? I know there are new tools out there right now (Moz Local, Yext, Locu, etc.), but I only need Yahoo and they don't fit in with our needs at this time. Please advise - thank you!
