My Ave. position and ranking is dropping!
-
Hi,
I added canonicals last two days, and made a tiny change is our meta titles. (adding a secondary keyword). Now my ave. position and visibility has dropped very much. Can it be canonicals or is it the keywords? Can canonicals affect the website so quickly?
My other question is can it be temporarily so should I wait more? how long?
I should mention that our website content is not really good and I'm working on it. When I added meta tags we had a big jump in our ranking and then we stopped getting better,. But now we are going down! Can it be the content? Sorry I know that it is actually all, but i do not know which one matters more and do not understand why it happened immediately after adding canonicals.
Our website is: www.pacificsmoke.com
Appreciate your advice.

"Are the following hreflang tags correct? "
Yes
"Or now that we do not have french version yet, should I delete the first line? Because, for instance, we do not have such a URL yet: https://www.pacificsmoke.com/fr/wholesale."
You don't need to add any hreflang tags until you add translated pages. I only mentioned them because you have an /en/ page and you're in Canada. If you don't plan on adding translated pages, then you don't need the /en/ page and you don't need hreflang tags.

Hi,
I have another question and very much appreciate your advice. Are the following hreflang tags correct? Or now that we do not have french version yet, should I delete the first line? Because, for instance, we do not have such a URL yet: https://www.pacificsmoke.com/fr/wholesale. In this case, I do not understand why I should add hreflang.
For our homepage:
And an example for other pages:
Should I use instead of rel="canonical"?
Any advice would be a great help.

I had a client with the same issues and yes, canonicals are a huge problem. You should sort that out first and see how the website reacts with rankings. Google is really punishing websites with errors these days and canonicals are some of the worst ones.
-
I'd start with the canonicals. They're not set correctly.
Your home page (https://www.pacificsmoke[dot]com) has a canonical of www.pacificsmoke[dot]com/home. It's missing the "https://" in front and "/home" should be dropped from the end.
The English version of your home page (https://www.pacificsmoke[dot]com/en/) is canonicalized to www.pacificsmoke[dot]com/home. It too is missing the "https://" in front and should be canonicalized to itself.
I'm assuming because of the /en/ page at the end of the page above and your location (in Canada) that you plan on creating a French version of the page. If that is the case, you will also need to introduce hreflang tags. If that's not the case, the /en/ page is a duplicate and should be removed.
If you need help with hreflang tags, Gaston Riera previously answered in a question in Q&A about hreflang tags and listed a bunch of helpful resources. You can find them here - https://moz.com/community/q/hreflang-tags-and-canonical-tags-might-be-causing-indexing-and-duplicate-content-issues.

Rankings Dropped to Nothing
We're kind of in crisis mode, as our ad revenue is about to take a huge hit. Hoping someone can help me figure out what to do next. Site: https://indoorgardening.com Here's what I did (below) that I think broke things somehow. I'm clearly not an SEO expert but thought I was making things better. And things did improve over the last week or so but then fell apart 2 days ago. 1. Most posts did not have a Yoast focus keyword. I added keyword phrases and used Yoast suggestions to optimize for that and for readability. 2. In some cases I changed post titles to better reflect the keyword phrase. 3. In some cases I changed the slug per Yoast's suggestion and did a 301 redirect from the old slug to the new one. 4. I used Grammarly to fix all spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. 5. Some Yoast-suggested changes that were made: Image alt tags, subheading structures, adding keyword to subheadings, first paragraph, and meta description, changed sentence length for those over 20 words to clean up the text, added transition words where applicable, reworded passive voice sentences, added internal links when needed, eliminated consecutive sentences (first word), improved Flesch reading ease when necessary. 6. I also added or changed Amazon affiliate links where needed and swapped out images when necessary. Results:

I started this project about 3 weeks ago. On 11/29 we had one of our highest traffic days, with 1017 hits coming from Google. On 11/30, 257 hits came from Google, and on 12/1, 3 (three!!) hits came from Google. At this point, 82 of 89 posts have a double green "Good" score in Yoast; 6 are "OK" and 1 does not have a focus keyword designated. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide. -John0 -
New site luanched- rankings plummeted
Hi all, we just launched a new version of our site and have seen huge drops in traffic to the homepage. Url structures were changed and now include /us at the end and a lot of the content was consolidated to make the homepage a little cleaner. We kept title tags and meta data the same. Rankings have declined significantly. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Why did I drop ranking after setting up perm redirect, sitemap, and Google places??
I have a site that was ranking in the top two for my search terms. We had a funky url (it contained hyphens) and was advised to change it for SEO, so I setup a perm redirect through my web host (before it was a temporary one I think) At the same time I installed a sitemap plugin for Wordpress and also registered for a Google Places account. I can't remember the exact order I did this -- does it matter? Anyway, within a couple days of doing the above, my ranking dropped to the bottom of the second page. I would like to fix this, but I'm not sure. I need help please!

My Website Ranking is terribly drop
So sorry I really need your all help 😞 I'm really frustrated and stressed. For my website http://www.cma-academy.edu.sg , it has been ranking on Google 1st page (with the keywords "design course/design courses") for the past over 6 months and the traffic was really good... But it has been almost 2 months since the big drop... my ranking all is gone in just a week and now it's even not on the top 50.. While my competitors websites are stand stil. 😞 I seriously really want to cry because of this.. And I'm sure there is nothing much wrong with my SEO to be abandoned by Google like this and Google still index my webpage, but the crawling rate is so much slow than before.. I really need some help from the expert, especially from seomoz.. Please help me in this, I'm willing to answer any questions as well...

Site disappeared from rankings at 5th of October
Hello, I have a travel guide site at www.taylandgezirehberi.com It is the most detailed site about Thailand in Turkish language. It has 300 hundred pages of unique content that I wrote from scratch. Site was doing great at Google Turkey. I was at 2nd place for keyword "Tayland". Also I was in first 5 at almost every Tayland related keyword. I survived Penguin really good, but at 5th of October Penguin data refresh my site got totally trashed. Now site doesn't appear at any keyword at all. I suspect this maybe because of some link wheels that I bought about 8-9 months ago when I was inexperienced. Also I had 4-5 backlinks from my sites at other unique IP adresses. I admit doing mistakes, but I think the punishment was really harsh for a unique content site. I sent a reconsideration request, but got the answer "No manual spam actions found." I contacted the guy who did link wheel, had him removed some of the links. Also I used Disallow Tool and submitted some other spammy url's. This deranking effected me really bad, do you have some other suggestions that might help? Thanks a lot

Risks and rewards of positioning content with CSS
Some SEO folks (such as http://www.stonetemple.com/articles/css-and-seo.shtml) advocate using CSS so that unique content in the body of your page appears earlier in the file than non-unique content (such as, for example, the content of an elaborate drop-down menu system). What say you? Do search engines now disregard position on page, and look at your pages holistically?

Severe rank drop due to overwritten robots.txt
Hi, Last week we made a change to drupal core for an update to our website. We accidentally overwrote our good robots.txt that blocked hundreds of pages with the default drupal robots.txt. Several hours after that happened (and we didn't catch the mistake) our rankings dropped from mostly first, second place in Google organic to bottom and mid first page. Basically I believe we flooded the index with very low quality pages at once and threw a red flag and we got de-ranked. We have since fixed the robots.txt and have been re-crawled but have not seen a return in rank. Would this be a safe assumption of what happened? I haven't seen any other sites getting hit in the retail vertical yet in regards to any Panda 2.3 type of update. Will we see a return in our results anytime soon? Thanks, Justin
