Google Displaying Wrong Homepage URL
-
Hi Everyone,
Google is displaying www.domain.com instead of domain.com. We have our preferred URL set up as domain.com, and even redirect www.domain.com to domain.com, but in the search results it is showing www.domain.com. Problem is we are seeing referral data from www.domain.com and in Google it says "No information is available for this page."
Anyone seen a way to resolve this?

Hi,
After looking into it more, I tried to submitting the https://www.domain.com to be indexed in Google Search Console. It is saying it is because the robots.txt file is being blocked. Now after not finding anything related to this in the Robots.txt file, I did see we are blocking SID, and when you click through this page for the first time it takes you to https://domain.com/?SID=da6c01c48dae66de9384d5b71f7af386.
Could that potentially be the issue?

"We have our preferred URL set up as domain.com" - check which search console property you have done this in. Unless you're on the new domain-level search console property type (most people are NOT) - you should have http://www.domain.com, https://www.domain.com, http://domain.com and https://domain.com all registered as four separate properties. They should all 'agree' the syntax you want to use
If you are setting the display type in the wrong property, or doing it correctly but legacy settings in the other versions are contradicting you - that could cause problems
Note that this is just a display setting only, it controls how the SERP 'looks' visually but has nothing to do with which URL Google is 'linking to' from their search results. For that area of the issue I can only guess that either you have to wait longer or something is wrong with the redirects on some level (or all the redirects are being contradicted by bad canonical tags, creating 'soft' redirect loops!)

Google not displaying meta description
Hi, one of my clients is receiving the following error in SERP - "A description of the page is not available because of this site's robots.txt". The site is built on WordPress and I realized that by default, the settings were checked to blocks bots from crawling the site. So, I turned it off, fixed robots.txt and submitted the sitemap again. Since, then it's been almost 10 days, the problem still exists. Can anyone tell me what should be done to fix it or if there's a way to get Google to recrawl the pages again.

Any opinions on this?

Requesting New Custom URL for Google+ Local Business Page
This question is about the new custom URLs for Google+ Local Business pages: Has anyone heard any success stories with requesting a custom URL different than the two reserved ones offered by Google via contacting a Google Rep by phone? And what advantages might there be for a local business to go with a very long custom URL such asgoogle.com/+rosenbergAndDalgrenLLPFortLauderdale as opposed to just google.com/+RdLawyers? Does having the city name in the URL offer any <acronym title="Search Engine Optimization">SEO</acronym> benefit? Thanks!

Wrong page in serps
Hi
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | niclaus78
I've been working with a law firm's website for a couple of years and we've encounter a problem. The pages were divided to target employers and employees separately. For the very targeted keywords mentioning either employees or employers everything was good but for broader less targeted keywords e.g unfair dismissal keywords chooses either one or the other which is a problem. Now I created this ''bridge'' pages where all the topics are explained and then users are directed to and then they will chose where to go. the problem is a lot of off page was created during this years either targeting on or the other. What I plan to do is: -Create a new site map and changing the priority, so the new pages will have a priority 1 and the others less. - bookmarks, articles, etc will be targeting now to the new pages. I place the new pages linked from the home page so that they get the link juice of the home page and they are also now more a category page in the map, so a level up comparing to the previous ones. Questions: 1- Is it worthwhile adding a rel canonical tag to the new pages and rel alternate to previous pages, or if its not a question of duplicate content it shouldn't have an impact? What other things should I take into consideration? Thanks a lot. nico0 -

When I visit the strange URLs such as http://www.dwww.mysite.com, it shows the home page of http://www.mysite.com. Is there a way to redirect anything like this back to the home page?0 -
Am I Doing This Wrong? Ecommerce SEO
I ran my site through the SEOMoz On-Page Optimization tool and one of the problems noted was "Keyword Self-Cannibalization" in this case, it was stating I was using the keyword "Board Games" too much. Site in question: http://theboardgamers.co.uk/ The problem being is that every product link contains the word "Board Game" - Which makes sense, but I guess it may look spammy to the SEO world. Would it be best to remove the "board game" part from each internal link and only leave it in the URL structure?
