How to Get google to get to index New URL and not the OLD url
-
Hi Team,
We are undertaking a Domain migration activity to migrate our content frrom one domain to another.
1. the Redirection of pages is handeled at Reverse proxy level.
2. We do have 301 redirects put in place.
However we still see that google is indexing pages with our Old domain apart from the pages from new domain. Is there a way for us to stop google from indexing our pages from Old domain. The recommendations to have Noindex on Page mete title and disallow does not work since our redirection is setup at RP and google crawlers always discover the new pages after redirection.

If your traffic is redirecting on your new domain from the indexed old domain, that's fine.
However, if you're worried about duplicate content because the old site has the same content as the new site, that can be a problem if the same page is being indexed on two different domains.
You can tell Google that your domain has changed in the old search console.
1. Make sure both domains are setup in Google Search Console.
2. Set up a permanent redirect on the old site's .htaccess file, redirecting every page to the new site.
3. Search "Google change of address" in Google. The first link above should be from Google Support. Click on that and they will give you a link to the old search console.
4. In the old search console, go to the gear on the far right and click on that. You will see "change of address".
5. Be patient. It can take months before those old URLs are gone from Google.

The question is why? There are still >7000 seomoz.org pages indexed, It is not a big problem, why do you think about it?

Getting the Proper CCTLDs & Subdomains to Rank in the Proper Countries
We seem to be having a really difficult time getting Google to do what we want in regards to getting proper domains indexed in the proper countries. In regards to English language, we tend to see a tremendous amount of crossover between .com, .in, and .co.uk. And yes international targeting is put in place. For example, both our .com and co.uk websites are in english and when someone enters a search query for one of our particular products, the .com website shows up to users in the UK. The countries with the hardest time are as follows and typically find them competing primarily with .com, but others can interlope as well. **All primarily in English: ** Canada UK India Australia Any ideas on how we can get this aligned correctly to where we can get the proper CCTLD to show up in the correct country instead of the .com?

I have a USA Shopify store and want to create a UK store. Should I use a domain or a sub-domain for the new store?
I'm currently running 2x Shopify Stores (names changed from actual): "coolpants.com" is our UK store "us.coolpants.com" is our USA store However, Google Analytics has shown that most of the traffic to "coolpants.com" comes from the USA, and this market has our biggest growth potential. So we want to switch our domain setup to the below: Make "coolpants.com" our USA store Stop using "us.coolpants.com" and redirect it to "coolpants.com" Set up our UK store as a new domain ("coolpants.co.uk) or subdomain ("uk.coolpants.com") My question is – should I set up the UK store as a domain or a sub-domain? What are the pros and cons of each? Thank you in advance for any help!

Is CNAME / URL flattening a bad practice?
I recently have moved a number of websites top a new server and have made the use of CNAME / URL flattening (I believe these are the same?). A network admin had said this is an unrecommended practice. From what I have read it seems flattening can be beneficial for site speed and SEO even if very little.

Sub-Domain Google Search Nested under main Domain?
Hello, I have a strange issue that I have not come across before:My subdomain is: michigan.dogdaycare.com. Some of the Keyword searches show our subdomain being nested under the main domain for Google searches instead of being indexed individually. Example search term: Dogtopia Bloomfield https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=dogtopia+bloomfield -This will show two subdomain links nested under the main domain Example search term: Dogtopia Birmingham https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=dogtopia+birmingham -This shows the subdomain showing correctly in searches and not nested. Any idea as to how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

Google Maps- Get Directions not working properly
Hello All, We have added a "Get directions" for google Maps on our website for each of our depots. It works correctly on the latest version of google maps if we just put in our company name , postcode. However if users are using an older version of google maps, it doesn't work so well ,and brings up a massive list of companies in the same vicinity. If we put in our whole address, it's hit and miss if it finds it okay and brings up a list of companies as well. I have some other companies just use long/latitude but I that isn't so accurate in some cases either especially when the depots are on business parks. I am wondering if others have found this problem and whether its possible to check what version of google maps the user has say on their mobile etc before choosing which code to run ? Any thoughts ? I can't find anything to help us to code this. thanks Peter

Discrepancy between Google analytics and Alexa
I understand that the data on Google Analytics and Alexa would probably differ a little bit, but in our case, we see a substantial difference between the reporting parameters between these two. For example, the Alexa data shows that the number of page views per visit is approximately 11 pages whereas Google gives a figure closer to 5 pages/visit. The avg time spent on a visit is approximately 15 minutes on Alexa but closer to 4 mins on Google Analytics! Any inputs on why this huge discrepancy would exist? TIA Asif

Single sites per location as well as group site. Should we get rid of single sites & only keep group site.
Currently we have several single sites for each of our dealership locations as well as an automotive group site linking to each location(dealership) website. Currently there is no landing page for each location on the group site. To save money we were looking into beefing up our group site and getting rid of our individual location sites. 301 redirecting them to location landing pages on the group site website. Each site has about the same authority including the group site. Each dealership location resides in the same province(state) but some locations are a 7hour drive apart so not all within the same vicinity. I want to ensure we continue to rank well in each location. I won't be able to include all geographic locations in the title tag on the homepage of the group site due to the character restrictions. What would you recommend? Keeping the individual websites per dealership location OR focusing solely on a group website. I need to ensure we continue to rank well in each city where each dealership resides. Thanks for any recommendations! It's greatly appreciated. Thanks for everyone's thoughts & opinions.
