Is there a negative consequence of recycling guest posts?
-
I have an SEO campaign, where I have about ~100 target websites. I have an article on a specific topic, that is relevant to their industry and mine. The article links back to my website, and in exchange for posting the article the owner of the target website receives compensation in free services from our company. The topic is very specific to the marketing campaign and the compensation model. It is not possible for this particular campaign to create other topics for articles.
If several websites host the exact same article that links to my website:
- Is there a negative SEO consequence for the target websites?
- Is there a negative SEO consequence for my website?
- If yes to either of these questions, just how different would the post need to be to avoid the answer being yes to either of these questions?

I would not call it nefarious. I would simply call it duplicate content that Google will not be pleased with. Google can see lazy efforts to get links - and you are giving a reward to people who accommodate you. It's duplicate content. Google will likely ignore most of it. If you do this at scale don't be surprised if none of these links are counted.

Hi Keri,
I think I haven't explained this very well.
The target websites are small local businesses that do not have many pages. They are certainly not what i would call "Quality Sites", but this term is arbitrary anyway. This campaign is specifically designed for local SEO to get links and citations for other local businesses in a related industry. The campaign offers a free service from my business to the target websites customers. The post explains what the service is, and links to a special form on our website so that they can register for this service. I think you are interpreting this as being far more nefarious than it really is.

I see multiple potential problems here.
- This could be seen as a paid link.
- Search engines are not fond of duplicate content, so are likely to show a result from just one of the sites.
- The effort to make the content original enough for these different sites may be more trouble than it is worth. Quality sites likely will not be interested in posting content that is spun just enough for it to pass a Copyscape test.

Best practices for retiring 100s of blog posts?
Hi. I wanted to get best practices for retiring an enterprise blog with hundreds of old posts with subject matter that won't be repurposed. What would be the best course of action to retire and maintain the value of any SEO authority from those old blog pages? Is it enough to move those old posts into an archive subdirectory and Google would deprioritize those posts over time? Or would a mass redirect of old blog posts to the new blog's home page be allowed (even though the old blog post content isn't being specifically replaced)? Or would Google basically say that if there aren't 1:1 replacement URLs, that would be seen as soft-404s and treated like a 404?

Failed microsites that negatively affect main site: should I just redirect them all?
While they are great domain names, I suspect my 7 microsites are considered spammy and resulted in a filter on my main e-commerce site for the important keywords we now have a filter blocking from showing up in search. Should I consider it a sunk cost and redirect them all to my main e-commerce site, or is there any reason why that would make things worse? I've fixed just about everything I can thinking of in response to Panda and Penguin, before which we were on the first page for everything. That includes adding hundreds of pages of unique and relevant content, in the form of buyers guides and on e-commerce category pages -- resolving issues of thin content. Then I hid URL parameters in Ajax, sped up the site significantly, started generating new links... nothing... I have tons of new keywords for other categories, but I still clearly have that filter on those few important head keywords. The anchor text on the microsites leading to the main site are typically not exact match, so I don't think that's the issue. It has to be that the sites themselves are considered spammy. My bosses are not going to like the idea because they paid for those awesome domains, but would the best idea be to redirect them to the e-commerce site?

A case of negative SEO?
We came across today some very strange forum postings. Essentially they look like some nonsense text followed by a list of "adult" terms. In the middle of the list, completely randomly and strangely our brand terms appear in the list. There are no links to anything. The only thing I can think of is that someone is trying to make our brand terms algorithmically associated with questionable "red flag" terms in the eyes of search engines. I have no idea why else this would be happening. Could this be a case of some kind of Fiverr negative SEO attack? Is there any risk? Doesn't seem like anything we can do about it...

How Benefitial is Guest Blogging?
So my question is, if you are getting guest posts on sites with high Domain Authority, is it really that benefitial since the actual post will have a low page authority? Is just getting a post on a high domain authority that good?

Links In Blog Posts: 1 Paragraph VS. Full Article
Hey guys, I've been using an article network to post unique articles (not spun). Been posting 1 paragraph articles with 1 text link. Just wondering what the main difference would be if I were to post a full article with 2 or 3 text links vs 1 paragraph with 1 text link, besides the fact that you get more links and save more time writing only 1 paragraph. Will the full article with 3 backlinks improve keyword ranks more or not by much? Cheers!
