Indexing backlinks plays a crucial role in the overall SEO strategy and search engine rankings. When search engines like Google crawl and index a website, they also consider the quality and relevance of the backlinks pointing to that site. Here's why indexing backlinks is important:
Visibility in Search Results: Indexing ensures that search engines recognize and attribute value to the backlinks you have acquired. When indexed, these backlinks contribute to the overall link profile of your website and can positively impact your visibility in search results. Faster Indexation: By submitting your backlinks for indexing, you can speed up the process of search engines discovering and recognizing those links. This helps search engines recognize the relevance and authority of your website sooner. Enhanced Crawling and Ranking: Indexing allows search engines to crawl and evaluate the backlinks pointing to your site. These backlinks are considered as signals of trust and authority, which can influence your search engine rankings. Improved Domain Authority: When high-quality backlinks pointing to your site are indexed, they contribute to your website's Domain Authority (DA). A higher DA indicates a more authoritative and reputable website, which can positively impact your rankings and organic search visibility. Competitive Advantage: Indexing your backlinks gives you a competitive edge by ensuring that the value and authority of those links are properly recognized and taken into account by search engines. This can help you outrank competitors who may have unindexed or low-quality backlinks.
It's important to note that not all backlinks may require manual indexing, as search engines can discover and index them naturally. However, for specific or newly acquired backlinks that may not be indexed quickly, manual submission or using indexing services can help ensure they are recognized by search engines and contribute to your overall SEO efforts.

Crawling and Indexing: Search engines use web crawlers (or spiders) to navigate the web and index web pages. These crawlers follow links from one page to another. When they encounter a backlink on a website, they will follow it to your site, discover the linked content, and potentially index it.
Link Equity: The value of a backlink, often referred to as "link equity" or "link juice," is transferred to your website when the link is indexed. Indexing backlinks plays a crucial role in search engine optimization (SEO) and can significantly impact search engine rankings. Let's break down how it affects SEO and rankings:
Discovery: When a search engine's web crawler (also known as a bot or spider) visits a webpage, it follows the links on that page to discover new content. If your backlinks are indexed, search engines can find and crawl those linked pages, which leads to better visibility of your website and its content.
Link Juice and Authority: Search engines consider backlinks as "votes" for your website's credibility and authority. When indexed, these links pass on their "link juice" or ranking power to your site, positively influencing your site's authority. High-quality, relevant, and indexed backlinks can boost your site's credibility in the eyes of search engines, potentially resulting in higher rankings.
Indexation and Visibility: If your backlinks are not indexed, search engines won't recognize them as valid connections to your site. Consequently, these links won't contribute to your site's authority, and your SEO efforts may not yield the desired results in terms of search engine rankings.
Faster Indexation: Sometimes, search engines might take time to discover and crawl newly created backlinks. However, indexing them directly can speed up the process and ensure that the link juice is passed on to your site more quickly.
Link Diversity and Penalty Risk: A natural backlink profile contains a diverse range of indexed links from various sources. Indexing ensures that search engines can see this diversity, making your link profile appear more organic and reducing the risk of being penalized for manipulative link-building practices.
Anchor Text Optimization: Indexed backlinks contribute to anchor text optimization. Anchor text is the clickable text in a hyperlink, and when indexed, it helps search engines understand the context and relevance of the linked page, further benefiting your SEO efforts.
Competitive Advantage: By ensuring your backlinks are indexed, you gain a competitive advantage over websites with unindexed or poorly indexed backlinks. This advantage can positively impact your search engine rankings and visibility in search results.

Indexing backlinks is a critical aspect of search engine optimization (SEO) and can have a significant impact on search engine rankings. Backlinks, also known as inbound links, are links from other websites that point to your site. When search engines index these backlinks, they consider them as votes of confidence or trust from other websites. Here's how indexing backlinks affect SEO and search engine rankings:
Crawling and Discovery: Search engines use web crawlers to navigate and index the content on the internet. When these crawlers encounter a backlink on another website, they follow it to your site. If the backlink is not indexed, search engines might not find the link and, consequently, won't give your site the credit it deserves for that backlink.
Link Juice and Authority: Backlinks can pass on "link juice" or authority from the linking website to yours. The more high-quality backlinks your site has, the more authoritative it appears to search engines. Indexing these backlinks ensures that the link juice they carry is considered when calculating your site's authority.
Search Engine Rankings: Search engines use complex algorithms to determine the relevance and authority of websites. Indexed backlinks play a crucial role in these algorithms. When search engines see that reputable websites are linking to yours, it boosts your site's credibility, potentially leading to higher rankings in search results.
Faster Indexing: If you actively index backlinks, search engines are more likely to discover and index them quickly. This means the positive impact on your rankings might be recognized sooner.
Monitoring and Disavowal: By indexing backlinks, you can keep track of which websites are linking to you. This is essential because some backlinks may come from spammy or low-quality sources. By monitoring your backlinks, you can identify and disavow harmful links, preventing any negative impact on your SEO efforts.
However, it's important to note that not all backlinks are beneficial. In the past, websites used to engage in manipulative link-building practices, resulting in low-quality backlinks that search engines now penalize. Today, search engines have become more sophisticated in distinguishing between good and bad backlinks. Quality is more important than quantity. So, focus on obtaining backlinks from authoritative and relevant websites within your niche.
In conclusion, indexing backlinks is crucial for SEO as it helps search engines recognize and credit your site for the valuable links it receives from other websites. Having a strong backlink profile can positively influence your search engine rankings and drive organic traffic to your site.

How to get rid of bad backlinks
So I noticed my rankings going down and spam score going up. So under my spam score there are over 100 links for different websites but ALL redirect to semalt.com I researched it and it says they hijacked a bunched of backlinks but don't know much more. How can I get rid of all those backlinks? I was told I could use the disavow tool but apparently that can hurt my ranking as well. The semalt.com site has no backlink to me - it looks like the pages that have/had my backlinks, they've redirected to them. For instance this is one of the links http://www.oxvideos.xyz/indianantyphotoxxx 422005fb-9240-40a4-8b65-f5b1f5079dea-image.png

Web Designers and SEOs using backlinks from client sites
What are your thoughts on SEOs and web designers putting their own links in the footers of client sites. For the sake of argument, lets assume that the client is happy for the link to be there. I'm referring to the SEO merits of the link being there from an 'irrelevant' website. My belief is that this goes against what Google is looking for and that these are irrelevant links and likely to be picked up and penalised. That's what I believe! However, I see lots of sites offering SEO services that have dofollow links from their client sites, using exact match anchor text and they are all ranking highly. Is it just a matter of time before Google sniffs them out and penalises them for it? Or should I be going through my client sites and adding myself a dofollow link in the footer? (with their permission of course). The highest ranking sites in any UK city do this. If you search SEO Manchester, SEO Leeds etc and find the top ranking sites and check them out on opensite explorer, they are all using a disproportionate amount of dofollow backlinks form client sites.

Will Google penalize for backlinks on non-indexed pages?
Have a client who has a bunch of links from spammy sites that aren't even indexed by Google. Will Google penalize (i.e. Penguin) for backlinks from spammy sites that aren't indexed? I'm guessing "Yes, Google still crawls non-indexed sites and may penalize the sites linked to from the banned site." Anyone have any data or experience with this? Anyone have a non-indexed or banned site? Does Google still crawl it?

Creating Backlinks On Behalf of Client
I'm on my first SEO project with a law firm. I'm at the stage where I am doing competitive backlink research on other law firms that my client gave me. I saw a blog site called typepad. It has a high domain authority so I was going to recommend to my client that they set up an account and blog away! Since it's a law firm, I am not qualified to start blogging on behalf of my client and I know they are extremely busy so now I have to "ride" my client to get busy and start creating content. I feel like I want to do more for them on the blog side to keep things going but not having a law background, probably not doable. Question: Do most SEO's do the blogging for their clients, farm it out or keep pushing their clients to do it? I also want them to sign up with articlebase but the same thing is going to happen. I have to push them to write articles. I guess this is my job? -Bob
