On-page SEO

This is a question for the organic SEO experts, once you added the main keyword that you want to rank for in the homepage title, meta title plus meta description, perhaps once or twice in the text on the homepage. How often do you then write it in the content marketing, say blog posts, we want to rank higher on Google for "SEO agencies Cardiff" however if you mention this in the blog posts too much say once a week, this could lead to over optimisation issues?

Hi Moz Expert SEO Community,
Here are some talking points I'm considering for my client discussions:Data Source Transparency: Explain how Moz uses its own proprietary methodology to estimate search volume, which might involve different data sources or algorithms compared to other tools. Understanding these differences can help contextualize the varying results.
Focus on Value over Volume: Emphasize that while search volume is an important metric, it is not the only factor to consider. Highlight the importance of user intent, keyword difficulty, and the potential for conversions. These elements are crucial for choosing keywords that will drive meaningful traffic and business results.
Data Accuracy Considerations: Acknowledge that search volume data can vary across different platforms and tools due to various calculation methods and data sources. Suggest using a combination of tools to get a broader and more nuanced perspective on keyword performance.
In addition to these points, I would appreciate any additional strategies you recommend for handling this situation. Specifically, how can I effectively select keywords with good volume using Moz and communicate these decisions to my client?
Thanks in advance for your insights and recommendations!

I'm optimizing for on-page SEO.
While other tools are indicating a healthy amount of traffic for the keywords I've chosen for content creation, Moz is offering significantly lower search volume estimates. This inconsistency is causing client concerns and potentially hindering project approval.
To effectively address this and ensure successful client communication, I'd like to dig deeper into how Moz approaches search volume calculations. Understanding the methodology behind Moz's data will allow me to explain potential reasons for the differences and provide a more comprehensive picture for the client.
Here are some talking points I consider for client discussions:

Focus on value over volume: While search volume is important, emphasize the importance of other factors such as user intent, keyword difficulty, and conversion potential when choosing keywords.
Data accuracy considerations: Recognize that search volume data can fluctuate across platforms, and using a combination of tools can provide a broader perspective.
Would you recommend additional strategies to deal with this situation and effectively select good volume keywords for this particular website from Moz?
Thanks in advance for your insight!Absolutely, addressing client concerns about search volume estimates from Moz versus other tools requires a strategic approach. Here are some additional strategies to consider:
Educate Clients: Provide clients with an overview of how different SEO tools use varying methodologies to estimate search volume. Emphasize that each tool may have its own algorithms and data sources, leading to discrepancies in reported metrics.
Case Studies and Examples: Share case studies or examples where Moz's search volume estimates have accurately predicted keyword performance or trends. Highlight instances where Moz data provided valuable insights or guided successful SEO strategies.
Focus on Relevance: Emphasize the importance of selecting keywords based on relevance to the website's content, target audience, and business goals, rather than solely relying on search volume metrics. Ensure that chosen keywords align with the website's theme and the intent of potential visitors.
Long-Tail Keywords: Explore the potential of targeting long-tail keywords with lower search volumes but higher relevance and conversion potential. Explain how targeting specific, niche terms can attract highly qualified traffic and lead to better engagement and conversions.
Continuous Monitoring and Adjustment: Stress the importance of regularly monitoring keyword performance and making adjustments based on actual data and insights. Encourage clients to view SEO as an ongoing process that requires flexibility and adaptation.
By combining these strategies with transparent communication and a focus on long-term value, you can help clients understand the nuances of search volume estimates and make informed decisions for their SEO efforts.

Hi Moz Expert SEO Community,
Balancing keyword usage in content marketing, like blog posts, is crucial to avoid over-optimization issues. While including your target keyword, "SEO agencies Cardiff," is important for relevance and ranking, overusing it can appear unnatural to readers and search engines alike.
A good rule of thumb is to prioritize creating high-quality, informative content that genuinely engages your audience. Naturally incorporate variations of your target keyword and related terms throughout your blog posts, ensuring they flow seamlessly within the context of the content. This might include phrases like "Cardiff-based SEO firms" or "Top SEO companies in Cardiff."
Rather than focusing solely on keyword density, prioritize providing valuable insights, solving problems, and addressing your audience's needs. By doing so, you'll not only avoid over-optimization but also build trust and authority with your audience and search engines. Additionally, diversifying your content strategy with topics related to SEO, digital marketing, and Cardiff-specific insights can help broaden your reach and enhance your overall SEO strategy.
and i am also looking for the seo strategy for my personal website. Thanks in advance for your insight! -

It's vital to maintain keyword density to avoid over-optimization. For "SEO agencies Cardiff," I'd recommend using variations and related terms in your blog posts. Perhaps include the keyword once every 3-4 posts, and focus more on providing valuable, engaging content that naturally incorporates these terms.

@sarahwalsh Thanks for posting a unique and meaningful question first of all. You need to understand that whenever users search for any keywords the Websites get ranked most of the time not the blogs until and unless there is a value in it for e.g. If you want to rank your blog for your targeted keyword then specific for you the topic would be top 10 SEO agencies in Cardiff and list down the list of agencies. To rank your website you can internal link your main keyword while writing a blog or any form of content link it to your landing page of a website.

Does sending ecom traffic away from a site impact rankings?
I have a client that represents a few big brands but doesn't offer ecommerce capability onsite, they essentially send traffic to retailers and distributors that do sell their products online - they even point to an amazon store that they own. My question is, if they did offer ecom and the conversions took place on their site, rather than direct traffic away from them, would this impact on their rankings at all?

How many pages should we optimise?
I have more than 250 pages on my site including my products. Is it a good idea to optimise each page with a unique keyword or is there a limit to the number of pages we should aim for?

Getting the Titles and Headings Right on Product Pages. Userbility vs SEO
Hey Mozzers, I am optimising a chaotic section of the site including many similar products. Writing unique content etc. The titles and urls were all over the place so my first job was to tidy them up so I could make some sense of the situation, especially as sometimes they didn't even match! I should point out were on Magento, so product name = Both the Heading and Title of the page, the meta title can be set separately. When i refer to title I mean both <title>and <h1></strong><br /><br />Before they existed as such<br />URL: domain.com/200-x-0-5-g-rs-232-balance.html<br />TItle: PC-1234 200 x 0.5g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br /><br />This format was (Product Code, Capacities, Resolutions, Accuracy, Product Title)<br /><br />The issue was all 60 products in a page followed this format. Navigating through the page was a nightmare and was just a jumble of numbers and highly confusing even to me who learnt what they all mean, especially when you had 8 products from the same range you got presented with<br /><br />APC-1234 200 x 0.5g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br />APC-1235 500 x 1g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br />APC-1236 1000 x 2g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br />APC-1238 5000 x 10g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br />APC-1239 10000 x 15g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br />APC-1210 20000 x 25g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br />APC-1211 50000 x 50g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance</p> <p>I changed them to something more user friendly.<br /><br />URL: domain.com/200g-precision-balance.html<br />Title: 200g Precision Balance<br /><br />This has seen the following benefits<br />- URL is now clear and means something to the user<br />- Product titles are easy to navigate and the page is more pleasing to the eye<br />- The jumble of numbers in the title are now all labelled and shown below each product listing in bullet point so the user can see the basic spec of a product without having to decipher any titles<br /><br />Upon reflection I has a couple of concerns I was hoping you could discuss, I am wondering if I have made the titles too simple.<br />1) I have no product code in the title<br />We have our own products manufactured and sell existing brands with their own product codes. Some of these can be lengthy. Adding them makes them hard to the eye and the page looked cramped.<br /><br />The codes are listed beneath each product title on category pages and on a list on the actual product page, but no where in the titles. <br /><br />2)None of our products have a brand listed in the title<br />None of the products on the site had brand names in anything but the images when i started and as such it snuck under my radar. But should i pre-fix all titles with a brand name?<br /><br />Should </p> <p>URL: domain.com/200g-precision-balance.html<br />Title: 200g Precision Balance</p> <p>become</p> <p>URL: domain.com/BRAND1-200g-precision-balance.html<br />Title: BRAND1 200g Precision Balance<br /><br />My instinct tells me to change things to include brands as its useful to the customer and should have an SEO benefit, but to leave out product codes as they are accessible to the customer where they are now and dont make things messy and unreadable.<br /><br />As always, thanks for the input!</p></title>

Page Layout Updates and Mobile Pages with Ads
I have been trying to do some research on the Page Layout Algorithm and Top Heavy Ads and much of what I read does not mention about mobile pages as apposed to desktop. I am curious if the Page Layout updates can be effected by mobile pages as well and if there is any good articles on this subject. Also is this Algorithm been incorporated into its regular algorithm or do we still have to wait for refreshes to see the impact? Cesar

Pages exclusion
Hi there! I don't want to "make relevan"t 3 of the pages my website has. Should I give them a title and a description even if I dont't want them to be shown in the SERPs? Is there any penalty from google if I don't do so? I guess no but just to confirm. Thanks!

Is reported duplication on the pages or their canonical pages?
There are several sections getting flagged for duplication on one of our sites: http://mysite.com/section-1/?something=X&confirmed=true
On-Page Optimization | | Safelincs
http://mysite.com/section-2/?something=X&confirmed=true
http://mysite.com/section-3/?something=X&confirmed=true Each of the above are showing as having duplicates of the other sections. Indeed, these pages are exactly the same (it's just an SMS confirmation page you enter your code in), however, they all have canonical links back to the section (without the query string), i.e. section-1, section-2 and section-3 respectively. These three sections have unique content and aren't flagged up for duplications themselves, so my questions are: Are the pages with the query strings the duplicates, and if so why are the canonical links being ignored? or Are the canonical pages without the query strings the duplicates, and if so why don't they appear as URLs in their own right in the duplicate content report? I am guessing it's the former, but I can't figure out why it would ignore the canonical links. Any ideas? Thanks0 -
Drupal SEO Question
Still trying to get a handle on all this...a lot to figure out! My site is Drupal and a few weeks ago I had my developer install an SEO Module so I could add a meta description and keywords for my pages. I have done that for the majority of the landing pages and the product pages as well. Earlier I posted a question about the use of adding the meta description and keywords to each product. The answers were mixed and pointed out the problem of the duplicate content which I am trying to figure out how to fix. BUT...when I went through my On Page Analysis grading for my campaigns one of the reasons my grades were low were because of the use of meta keywords tag. That the search engines ignore them and competitors can use them against you. So now I am thoroughly confused. I should optimize each product page with the meta description and keywords or i shouldn't? Keywords should show up in the title tag and the content....anywhere else? Help! Thanks much, Shara
