Should I built a microsite for client's new service or add a new section to an existing new website?
-
We built a new website for one of our clients. Covering services A B C mostly commercial and industrial B2B construction service. We bought him a brand new domain called serviceAcompanyname.com The website uses a brand new domain and as no DA and PA yet.
The client wants a new section added to the Website concerning a new service ( we are going to call it service D) which is still a local service but offered to Home owners.
Should we buy a new domain called serviceD-region-companyname.com and make a microsite covering the topic and work on backlinks and links in parallel for both sites, or would we be better off just adding a new section to the existing website and work on the main DA.
Will it be easier in the future to enhance 2 different domains or a single one even though all services are not targeting the same audience.

Exact match/partial match TLDs have been losing weight for a while now. They're still somewhat important, but is it important enough to fragment your efforts? The hyphenated stuff should be right out, especially for what you're considering.
Without knowing the main site you're working on, I can say that you should focus on one property. If you were a general, would you rather commit your resources to two fronts, or one? It sounds like you would head down the road of constantly new domains. Don't do that.
That approach is a disadvantage for both your client and yourself. Not only would there be diminishing returns on your efforts, there would be diminishing returns from The Googles algorithm. It sounds like you're going to have to fight the decreasing weight of a partial match or exact match domain to begin with.
Focus on one property. Make a new section. You will probably save on development time. No one on the face of the planet saves on content time.

escteam,
By the looks of the domain you bought and put the new site on, I'm wondering whether the client still has an old site on an old domain and the one you built is in addition to that one. If that's the case, then the client already has two sites and you're asking about building a third. Unless the primary domain has been penalized or there is a good non-seo reason to set up a new domain, it's usually best to focus on a single domain. Time spent on building authority will positively impact most/all sections of the single domain, where twice the time will be necessary to achieve like authority if services are set up on two domains. Keyword rich domain names are kind of an old-school thing and I wouldn't waste any time considering them these days.

What are the SEO implications of high quality backlinks from US-based websites to UK-based websites?
Hi everyone, quick question I hope someone could help me with: We're representing a client based in the UK. As part of their overall strategy we've been linkbuilding. At the moment, about 80/90% of the links we've gained come from UK-based sites, with 10/20% coming from US-based websites. The US based websites are very good (think New York Times and genuine, relevant blogs with good readerships). An external search analyst/consultant has contacted the client to say that the US links will be harming the site, because the links are from websites in the US and not the UK. We believe that if 80/90% of the links were from the US this could indeed cause harm as it could indicate to search engines that our client is in the US when it's not (which might compromise their chance of ranking in .co.uk versions of search engines) however because it's only 10/20%, and because the linking sites are very good, we believe that they will getting all of the benefits of the positive metrics without any meaningful negatives. We just wanted to get a few opinions on this to see if people think that we're mistaken, and would be glad to hear any opinions contrary to our own.

Links in other language than site's language
I have a quick question regarding usage of links in my articles or website. As I already told in my last night question, I drive 2 french blogs. I'm wondering if putting on english sites links in my articles or pages to add complimentary infos on a particular topic would be useful or messy for my SEO. In other words, will Google be misled by the fact that I write in french and that I put english links ot ressources in my texts even if they are on a related topic

Any benefits to having Wikipedia links now they are 'no-followed' (apart from traffic and natural link prof.)
I see that Wikipedia outbound links are all no-followed, is there any benefit (aside from the traffic) for having links here now ? For example is their co-citation and co-occurance benefits. I know there is without the links since from seeing previous Moz content about this saying Google getting good at connecting brand/s and topic mentions on a page (without any links) so appreciate Wikipedia is still good for that sort of thing. And a no-followed link is obviously good for the potential traffic. But is there any additional SEO benefit to having a no followed link on a wikipedia entry/stub too ? (aside from its contribution to your no-followed links which in turn contribute to a natural looking link profile) Cheers Dan

Getting existing text linked from magazine
Hello All, A major magazine DA98 did an article in 2007 about a project our company worked on. The specifically named our company in both the printed and online (PA53) versions of our article. Even though this article is old, I think this has HUGE potential if we can pull it off. Do you think it's possible to contact them and encourage them attach a link to our company name. Their newer articles are pretty good at doing this, but I guess in 07 it wasn't practiced by them. What's the best way to approach this and who should I go to? Webmaster? There is also a slight downside, the article does contain information about explosives, but not in a bad way. Could the search engines dislike this. I'm assuming not because of the PA and DA numbers for the magazine company. Would love to hear your thoughts and ideas. dmac
