Why has google stopped showing one domain and switching to showing another that points to the same website?
-
My client has a website here: http://www.savannahchiropractic.com/
The site ranked really well for searches for the term "savannah chiroprtactor".
Sometime last week (April 21 mobilegeddon?) the site slipped in rankings, but reappeared under the domain name: "www.whitemarshchiropractic.com"
Both URLs go to the exact same site. and I don't even think that the whitemarshchripractic.com site is a redirect. I'm not sure how it's setup, but it's definitely not a duplicate site. The ranking is still lower than the savannahchiropractic.com site, but now appears.
Anyone have any insights on this?

I agree with Patrick and dirk, you making trouble for yourself.
Decide what domain you want and 301 redirect to it. Use the logic, if not prefereddomain, then perfereddomain, rather then trying to detect evey domain.

Hi,
Don't really understand your remark "it's definitely not a duplicate site" - according to me it is exactly that.
Set-up seems to be quite straightforward: both domain names point to the same server which is a classical case of duplicate content. The domains both are registered by the same company (I guess your client who probably forgot the existence of the old domain) - so all the content is available on both domains
What you should do is to choose a principal site & redirect the other domain with 301 to the main domain which should solve the issue.
rgds,
Dirk

Hi Adam
First, this is a heavy duplicate content issue - you have two sites with the same content. I would do the following (if this were my site):
-
Choose a domain to focus on
-
For all sites...
-
Check backlinks in Majestic
-
Check metrics in Open Site Explorer
-
Check rankings in SEMRush and Google Webmaster Tools
-
Redirect the other domain to this new domain
-
Here is a URL mapping resource from Google
-
Find any and all other domains you may have
-
Use Copyscape
-
Redirect those domains as well
-
Do a backlink audit on all of the domains
-
Keep and change backlinks you want
-
Request removal of links you don't
-
If any domain has a bad enough backlink profile, you may want to 404 the site, or 410 it
-
You may need professional assistance on this so don't do that without second opinions
-
Update your sitemap for the chosen domain
-
Update your new sitemap XML in Google WMT and Bing WMT
-
If other sites have a Google Webmaster Tools, look into into a change of address
-
Correct any and all internal links to reflect this new domain
-
I recommend using relative URLs
-
Local search, Google+, & citations
-
Conduct a Local Search audit
-
Update citations - utilize Moz Local or Whitespark
-
Make sure information submitted reflects chosen domain
-
Update your Google+ Business pages
-
Make sure all NAP information is up to date
-
Make sure linked domain is correct
I would also take a look at your on-site SEO. A lot of these sites seem heavily optimized and a little spammy at points. While you are ranking now your URLs could set off spam filters, coupled with the on-site work that needs to be done, as well.
Just be mindful of your content and optimization going forward. There is a lot here, and without telling you what to do because I do not know your site at all (I would bring in a professional to help you and give you a strategy), these are areas and things I would start looking into. Let me know if you have any questions or comments. Hope some of this helps - good luck!

My Website's Home Page is Missing on Google SERP
Hi All, I have a WordPress website which has about 10-12 pages in total. When I search for the brand name on Google Search, the home page URL isn't appearing on the result pages while the rest of the pages are appearing. There're no issues with the canonicalization or meta titles/descriptions as such. What could possibly the reason behind this aberration? Looking forward to your advice! Cheers

Domain not ranking in Google
https://www.buitenspeelgoed.nl/ is a domain acquired by our client. Previously this website was on http://www.buitenspeelgoed-keupink.nl. With the old domain they were ranking top 30 on 'buitenspeelgoed' in google.nl. Now with the new exact match domain they aren't ranking any more (for months). However, the website is indexed, as you can see on http://1l1.be/nz I don't know what to do anymore. Need some advise. What we allready have done the last months: made adjustments to the 301-redirects (this was originaly setup wrong by the webdesigner (de) optimized the homepage on 'buitenspeelgoed' (strange is the fact that the Moz robot can't access the site). Checked the robots.txt to see if the website was blocked for Google Checked the meta robots to see if the website was blocked for Google Disavowed some spammy (old) links which linked to the old domain Checked Search console > Fetch as Google if there isn't any Malware of some kind (and to see if Google can access the site) Checked Search consol to see if there manual spam actions (isn't the case) Checked for duplicate content by copy/paste some texts in Google and see if any other results are showing up (isn't the case for most of the texts) Please let me know what we can do.

Why is Google Webmaster Tools showing 404 Page Not Found Errors for web pages that don't have anything to do with my site?
I am currently working on a small site with approx 50 web pages. In the crawl error section in WMT Google has highlighted over 10,000 page not found errors for pages that have nothing to do with my site. Anyone come across this before?

Homepage no longer showing in Google.co.uk
Hi guys, Has anyone ever had this before? My clients website was appearing 4 & 5 in Google.co.uk for the keyword 'voltage optimisation'. Since moving up in the rankings after furiously optimising the website we have now gotten to position 3 in Google.co.uk but the homepage ranking has disappeared and now is just displaying our 'what is voltage optimisation' page. I'm guessing Google feels that this page is more useful to someone searching 'voltage optimisation' but my client wants answers?! It's almost like Google have said, "if you want to take position 3 were only going to list one of your pages" because everytime we drop back down to position 4 our homepage appears position 5.

How to optimize for different google seach center (google.de, google.ch) ?
We all use Deutsch language and (.com) domains for the sites. I ranked well in google.com ,but not so well in google.de , google.ch , my competitors ranked much better in google.de,google.ch. I checked most of their outbound-links, but get few information. Links from (.DE) domains or links from sites located in German help the rank for special google seach center ? (google.de, google.ch) . Or some other factors i missed? please help.

Google is Showing Website as "Untitled"
My freelance designer made some changes to my website and all of a sudden my homepage was showing the title I have in Dmoz. We thought maybe the NOODP tag was not correct, so we edited that a little and now the site is showing as "Untitled". The website is http://www.chemistrystore.com/. Of course he didn't save an old copy that we can revert to. That is a practice that will end. I have no idea why the title and description that we have set for the homepage is not showing in google when it previously was. Another weird thing that I noticed is that when I do ( site:chemistrystore.com ) in Google I get the https version of the site showing with the correct title and description. When I do ( site:www.chemistrystore.com ) in Google I don't have the hompage showing up from what I can tell, but there are 4,000+ pages to the site. My guess is that if it is showing up, it is showing up as "Untitled". My question is.... How can we get Google to start displaying the proper title and description again?

What's the best way to transplant a blogger blog to another domain?
So I have this client who's got a killer blogger blog—tons of inbound links, great content, etc. He wants to move it onto his new website. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there isn't a single way to 301 the darn thing. I can do meta refresh and/or JavaScript redirects, but those won't transfer link juice, right? Is there a best practice here? I've considered truncating each post and adding a followed "continue reading…" link, which would of course link to the full post on the client's new site. It would take a while and I'm wondering if it would be worth it, and/or if there are any better ideas out there. Sock it to me.
