Optimiing multiple sites of a similar nature
-
I work for a company that makes products for the construction sector, we have approximately 80 independent companies who solely sell our products. We are looking to create websites for each of them (some have pre-existing sites that will be redesigned) They will be reasonably basic with quite few having a single page and none requiring online selling. I’m mindful that we will be essentially optimizing them all for the same words phrases. Is there anything I need to be mindful of when undertaking a project. Is it ok to optimize for the same keys words and terms etc?

It's going to be difficult for a single-page website to do much in the way of organic traffic. You're correct that optimizing 80 sites for the same keywords and phrases isn't going to be very effective; these sites will likely be seen as duplicates of each other, especially if they share the same design and much of the same content. Even if Google doesn't de-index some of their pages for being duplicates, you will still be creating 80 websites that are all competing with each other for the same phrases, which will make it harder for any of them to rank.
What makes these 80 companies different from each other? Why would someone choose one one over the other? If they're local businesses, I'd lean heavily into local SEO for this - using MozLocal to make sure each company's local citations are claimed, filled out, correct, and consistent; and making sure that each company's name, address, and phone number are prominent on the site itself.

Tracing Redirects to a Site
I wonder if anyone has used any tools where you can trace the redirects pointing to a site? I know there are a number of tools out there that can be used to check where a URL redirects to, but I was wondering if anyone has used a tool where I could trace all redirects with the final URL? I am using this for competitor research so I don't have access to Analytics or Webmaster Tools.

Will Links to one Sub-Domain on a Site hurt a different Sub-Domain on the same site by affecting the Quality of the Root Domain?
Hi, I work for a SaaS company which uses two different subdomains on our site. A public for our main site (which we want to rank in SERPs for), and a secure subdomain, which is the portal for our customers to access our services (which we don't want to rank for) . Recently I realized that by using our product, our customers are creating large amounts of low quality links to our secure subdomain and I'm concerned that this might affect our public subdomain by bringing down the overall Authority of our root domain. Is this a legitimate concern? Has anyone ever worked through a similar situation? any help is appreciated!

Site dropped after article submissions
I have a site about back pain. The name is lower back pain relief. It has a lot of content on how to treat back pain with natural remedies. I paid for botw.org and yahoo directories as well as submissions from submit edge. My site was doing well within a few months. I was floating around at the bottom of page two for "lower back pain relief" and lower back pain. I found out about Unique article wizard. I started using that to write and submit articles. Now, my website is not ranking anywhere. I submitted a request for reconsideration to Google. They said no manual action had been taken. The question: How long does this penalty last? Is that website toast now? I think it was penalized for using the anchor text too much or adding too many links at once. It has been penalized for about 6 weeks now.

Redirect Multiple Domains
This is a follow-up question from one posted earlier this month. I can't linked to that because it's a private question so I'm trying to summarize it below. We have a number of domains – about 20 - (e.g. www.propertysharp.com) that point to our main domain ip adress (www.propertyshark.com) and share the same content. This is no black-hat strategy whatsoever, the domains were acquired several years ago in order to help people who mistyped the websites url to reach their desired destination. The question was whether to redirect them to our main domain or not. Pros were the reportedly millions of incoming links from these domains - cons was the fact that lots of issues regarding duplicate content could arise and we actually saw lots of some pages from these domains ranking in the search engines. We were recommended to redirect them, but to take it gradually. I have a simple question - what does gradually mean - one domain per week, per month?

UK and USA site versions
We have a UK site selling our product and we are due to appoint a reseller in the USA, they require a .com domain, which makes sense and they also would like to see American spellings etc and currency. also we feature heavily in pubs and they want this referred to as "bars" so there are a few tweaks here and there but mainly just slight variations on spelling and terminology. These are only minor adjustments to our current site, what is the best way of achieving this without falling foul of duplicate content issues.
