UK and GB when selecting targeted engines in campaign management
-
HI
Anyone know the difference between selecting UK or GB when choosing your engines to track keyword rankings? Is it that one of the options only includes pages from the UK while the other tracks all pages, but from a UK rankings point of view - ie pages hosted overseas will still rank. - if so, which is which?
Or, and this is very unlikely, is it simply that the GB data does not include Northern Ireland as the UK is technically the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. NI is in UK but not in GB. Nice and confusing!
Thanks

Hi Jon,
Your response is now over 2 years old and the issue is still there. When I switch between ranking for UK and GB, I get different results. For example I have 2.24% viability for GB and 2.36 for UK.
Can we standardise on one so we can focus our efforts?

For locales, should be using en-GB though, as that is the ISO standard, and it's best to keep to that for hreflang etc, surely. http://www.andiamo.co.uk/resources/iso-language-codes

How does this effect bing and yahoo? both only have a GB option, no UK option. It seems confusing to set
-
Google en-UK
-
Google mobile en-UK
-
Bing en-GB
-
Yahoo en-GB
So while UK might be more accurate for Google than GB, for UK sites using Moz they will need to be aware that Google is UK and the other two are GB and why that really doesn't matter at all.
OR
Could we just change all 4 options so they have (United Kingdom) written at the end to make it obvious?
Thanks

Hey guys! I am product lead on Moz Analytics, I am going to dig into this now and give you guys an update. Thanks for your patience.

Actually there is a difference, when you select one over the other the count of keywords changes -- so what's happening, which one is correct
-
Not that it's an issue, but when will this be taken out, as it's still causing confusion and it's nearly a year since we saw this reply?
Thanks

Very good question. I dug in a little bit and found out that both the Great Britain and United Kingdom option are exactly the same behind the scenes. Both return rankings for google.co.uk. I'm not sure how the GB option got in there, but we'll take it out soon and just leave the UK option.
For any people that chose GB in the past, their campaigns will continue to work and pull UK results.
Sorry for the confusion!

Hi Carl,
As I understand it SEOmoz just reads your rankings from the search engines themselves. All you do in your campaign setup settings is tell it which SERP to read - then it's up to the search engines themselves to determine which pages are geographically relevant.
If you select 'Google United Kingdom' SEOmoz would monitor your rankings on Google.co.uk. There is no Google.co.gb or Google.gb, so I'd imagine selecting Great Britain will monitor .co.uk as well.
Also, if you go into Google Webmaster tools, you'll notice can't set Northern Ireland as your website's geographic target. There's rarely a distinction between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland on the Internet.

When using Moz Pro do I want Google-UK or -GB as default and why?
Hi. When using Moz Pro, I always select Google UK as default search with GB and US next. Is there a reason to choose one over the other? If so why? I am UK based and so are my clients. Thanks

How to select a quality site with SEOmoz root domain ranks for guest blogging?
Hi all! I'm going to submit a few guest posts to several web sites. When I'm selecting a blog, to submit a post, I use SEOMoz root domain statistics ( specially DA). I need to know what is the optimum rank level for select a good quality website to submit posts? Currently I use DA30 or higher sites. Is it a good? Apart from that, what are the other criteria that I should check? Specially after the penguin 4 update?

Campaign Domain "change" (www. vs no www.)
Hello, I'm tracking a domain (with www.thespin.be) since months. Last week we changed things related to domain & server and now SEOmoz has 0 pages crawled. I think that's because now my main domain is without www. (thespin.be). How can I modify my campaign to reflect this "change" (that's not really a new domain..) to avoid losing all my campaign history ? Also, on Google Webmaster Tools it's like I have 2 different sites (one with www. and another without), although I've defined my favorite domain (without www.) months ago.. Google won't update its index. And I have this problem on several other sites.. Thank you very much for giving me a feedback. Regards Jean-Louis

Campaign data via API
I am currently in the process of building an in house system for managing our clients SEO campaigns. One of the features that we will be including is a customer login where clients can view their reports and site progress. We plan on providing rankings and traffic stats within this which we will collect on a weekly basis to store historical changes. While I could integrate into analytics for traffic and create my own web crawler for rankings, this seems a waste since I already have that data in one central location. Looking through the moz API details it seems to have lots of functions for links but nothing relating to the campaigns. Is there any way or are there any plans to open up campaign data to an API? If I could do this I would certainly upgrade to allow each client to have their own campaign.

Help with On-page Optimization in Campaign Manager
Hi, I don’t know if I am incredibly stupid or am just missing something with the on-page optimization report page. I have 11 key phrases set up covering five or pages. When I grade each key phrase against the page I have optimized for it using the on-page keyword optimization (Term Target) they score A/B’s. The issue I have is the campaign manager on-page optimization report only appears to check all the key phrases against the home page, as it shows several F reports. How do I set it up so it grades each key phase against the correct site page. Thanks Fraser
