What is the SEO benefit of embedding YouTube videos on a page?
-
Is there SEO benefit to embedding YouTube videos made my other people or companies on pages?
The indirect benefit would be a better user experience and increased perceived value and usefulness of the page which could lead to more links.
Are there any other benefits?

Thanks everyone for all the great information!

Yes, there are lots of benefits.
Outside of the ones mentioned, you can get rich snippet results in the video SERPs (though this is rare) and you can also get "as seen on" attribution, which is a link at the bottom of a YouTube video that links to a curated page on youtube.com where it lists through a number of the YouTube videos featured on that site/blog, pulling in supporting text from the site. these curated pages provide a referring link back to the sites (through a 303 redirect). If you want to get this attribution, i would generally recommend only embedding one YT video on each page.

Adding to All Star's point, bounce-rate has been debated of it's relevancy to SERP within Google. That is enough for me to consider it as a ranking factor. Dr. Pete posted an article on this with some proof that Google is factoring in dwell time as a quality signal. Here is the URL to that article http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-2-user-metrics-that-matter-for-seo

To add to EGOL's good point, I'd add a viewing can be considered a "microconversion." The metrics you might positively affect are time on site, and if it opens in a shadowbox, potentially lower bounce rate.

I believe that it produces a page with rich media that search engines might rank better. And if it increases visitor engagement then that might improve your rankings through their links, likes, etc.
I add videos to a lot of pages.

Google News Publisher Benefit?
I'm curious about the benefit of verifying your website in the Google News Publisher Center. Right now my website isn't showing up under "My Sites," and it recommends I submit the site to be reviewed for inclusion. However, when I go to news.google.com and search for news topics we cover, our site does show up sometimes. Will verifying the website in the Google News Publisher Center help to include it in News results more frequently? One thought I had is that perhaps Google will start to ONLY include sites in Google News that the webmaster has verified here. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

YOUTUBE BEST PRACTICE for SEO
We have made a seriers of videos, shouled we link them together in the description or in the video itself on youtube for favorable results? What else cn we do to help other that writing a good quality description, use the customize options in youtube and then place the embed for the video on a content rich page about the subject. Ofcourse the keyword is in the first part of the title, and we use keywords as anchor text back to the video page. Also make sure it is in a good video sitemap? Other than that, what do you suggest? p-3VepAtpvk

Where to host our videos
We're in process of moving HookahLounge.net to Hookah.org. We're upgrading all the software packages, adding features, etc. One of the things we're going to do is gradually add a lot of video reviews to our site (400+). All the videos are going to be hookah/shisha related of course. Should we host the videos on YouTube and put them on related pages in our website? (We have a hookah wiki section with a different page for every shisha flavors, hookah, etc). or Should we host it on another platform or our own server? SEO. I don't know how where we host the videos affects the ranking of those Wiki pages that the videos would be posted. View count. I think YouTube has a large number of viewers which would mean a lot more people will see our videos. That being said will that be mainly good for brand building? Or will I actually be able to put links on those pages and drive traffic to our site too? Thanks

What is the best way to embed a link back to our site in our video embed codes?
Our site has over 100 great videos. We are currently streaming them all from our YouTube channel. I noticed SEOMoz is using http://www.wistia.com and that when I copy and paste a video from SEOMoz that code has a link back to the SEOMoz site in it, which of course is awesome for SEO. My question has several parts: Is this possible to do with an embed code from YouTube? Specifically directed towards SEOMoz: Which of the 3 types of player did you choose, HTML5, Flash or javascript? Why? Is Wistia just creating a video feed, or are they actually hosting your video content too? Our goal is two-fold: 1. We want people who embed our videos to be also embeddding a link back to our site and 2. We want our videos to be found in SERPs and have those direct people to our site instead of our YouTUbe channel. I'd welcome any comments regarding video SEO in this thread. Thanks!

Video Transcription
Does anyone have any best practices for video transcription strategy. We download the file at youtube, edit it, remove the time and upload it again, where youtube adds the time according to the edited file I've seen some transcripts under the video section that have not time on that? Does anyone know how that's done? I've also seen keywords added into those? Any recommendations around that. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Video SEO - Why are my videos not being indexed?
Hello All, I work on a site that has a lot of videos. The trouble is none of them are ranking. Here is an example of a page with a video on. If you click the play button you will see But none of these videos are being indexed, as you can see here. Is it because these videos are just mp4 files, rather than being embedded players (like SEOmoz use for instance)? Would embedding videos through Viddler / Wistia / Youtube etc help? Or is there some other issue at work here? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rich

Video SEO: Videos in Multiple Sources
Frist time question, so excited! 🙂 We are hosting videos on Wistia for a new series we're calling Tatango University - Very similar to Whiteboard Fridays as you can tell - thanks Rand for the idea. My question, should we also be uploading the videos to YouTube or will this somehow we looked at as duplicate content or video spamming? Also, if we host them on YouTube will they always come up before our videos on our own site, therefore driving all the traffic to YouTube? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hosting All Content Images On Flickr For Blog - What are SEO implications?
Hi, I am starting a travel blog and thought of the idea of hosting all the content images over at Flickr and just calling them into my blog content when needed. Benefits: push traffic over to my Flickr account pull traffic from Flickr to my blog However, I was just wondering about any SEO implications of having 3-4 links per post pointing to Flickr. Is this spammy? Will I lose my juice? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
